Thank God I've already been accepted elsewhere. I just wish they told me why I was rejected rather than the typical form letter bs😡
 
thankfully i'm in a couple great schools, but I wanna get in DMU!!!! ....not sure if thats right quite yet, but it was great!

Call them to find out. I would think they would be forthcoming if you asked. Best of luck with your other schools and congrats on your acceptance thus far.
 
Anyone interview this last week (10/12-13)?? Just curious of what people thought. If you did you got to experience way below average temps. Usually it is low 60's in October & probably my favorite time of year. Anyone have any questions after getting out of the interview.

P.S.--I'm just asking b/c I most definitely don't want to be studying anymore.

Every school you get rejected from will give you that. I got rejected from VCOM the day after I interviewed there (the goddamn seat wasn't even cold yet and they were licking the stamp). The letter said the same thing, "umm, sorry, don't call us, we will call you." It just saves time on personalizing a rejection letter for everyone. Don't beat yourself up but do learn from this. I realized, after my rejection, that I wasn't interviewing at the best of my ability. In fact, VCOM was my only rejection because, after that, I started to sell myself a whole lot better. Maybe that too was your problem. Either way, good luck.

Hey,

I interviewed last Friday (10/13). It was pretty cold, but nothing out of the ordinary. I am from the Midwest, so it's all good. I have so much to say about DMU. "WOW!" sums it up. DMU really makes you feel comfortable the entire time. The hospitality of the faculty and students was amazing. Everyone was so helpful! The interviewers really did try to get to know me. They were not there to give me a hard time (although they easily could have for variety of reasons). I really did feel that they gave an extra time to reading my application and asking only those questions that pertained to it and were applicable. I hope I get accepted!! If anyone has questions about the experience, please feel free to ask!
 
Anyone that interviewed on 10/5 hear anything yet? Or are they not letting us know until tomorrow?
 
Hey, I totally know you from your picture...from BYU I think....yeah anyway, I interviewed on the 5th and havent heard yet...so we will see

lol...i was the guy that worked at the movie theatre from Chicago ...anyway...good luck and hopefully we get in...those emails should start coming this week.
 
To those who interviewed on the 5th:
Admissions decisions will be available tomorrow afternoon or Wednesday morning. They're still waiting on one committee member to approve the decisions (I called this AM about scholarship info and Risa gave me the DL on the committee).

Do you know if this will also include those who interviewed on the 6th, or will we have to wait a little longer?

If I remember correctly from the tour and presentations, DMU uses both percentages for grades, with 70% is passing (don't quote me on that) and a P/F system. So I guess it just depends on the class/rotation. I really hope I got in. DMU shot up to the top of my list. I interviewed Oct 12. and I can't wait to find out. Good luck everyone

Just got my acceptance via e-mail! So, to all you 10/5ers, decisions are here!

Looks like I'll be deciding among DMU, KCOM and possibly UNECOM (interview on 10/24)

I've spent so much energy trying to get in somewhere, I'm not quite sure what to do about this!!

boner, we can hold council on 10/24 and compare UNECOM vs. DMU. I'm not sure what to expect, but UNECOM had better give me a toy like CCOM did to stay near the top
 
Hey guys,

Congrats on the acceptances! DMU was my first interview and I got in!! Yay, my dream of becoming a physician will continue and it's nice to know that the time spent during this entire application process has paid off. I will now be withdrawing any other DO schools I applied to just because I feel DMU would fit me fine. I also applied to several MD schools and still waiting but I feel that I will most likely end up at DMU. Congrats to everyone else!!!
 
Congrats everyone!!!!!!! Hopefully in a week or so I'll be in the same shoes as you guys. Interviewed at DMU 10/12 so it's still early for the adcoms to decide for us. How many sets of students do you guys think have interviewed there? So they have interviews on Thursday and Friday with about 15 per day. When did all the interviews start. I'm going to take a guess and say 90 students have interviewed so far. This is just jabber to pass the time until I get the email. Congrats again.
 
Congratulations everyone! For those with their first acceptance, it is definitely a relief. For those with multiple, it's going to be a hard decision huh? 🙂

To answer your question...To this date, 10 groups have interviewed this year. We are only 5 weeks though so I would guess that the number that have interviewed already is between 115-150.

I interviewed 10/5 and got accepted!! This was my first interview, so I'm really excited! 😀 Congrats to everyone!
 
Do you think the people who interviewed on 10/12 will find out soon? This week? Or do you think around this time next week?
 
i would venture to say next week....since you guys interviewed a week after we did...waiting is the worst part about this whole thing...i must have checked my email a million times after my interview

What i'm about to say has probably been said before but i'll go ahead and say what i have to say. The best part about DMU for me is all the "clinical" preparation they give you before doing your rotations. There's SPAL, which is a course that simulates patient contact by having actors pretent to be patients and you the student learn basic clinical communication skills and diagnosis skills. I think you do 12 of these simulated diagnosis before roations. There's also this software program/course that is similar to this called DxR where you work on case studies and are even able to order fictitious (sp?) labs, x-rays, etc in order to obtain a correct diagnosis.
Then there's Harvey, which is a mechanical dummy that simulates various cardiac abnormalities and you can actually listen to it. They said they were actually getting more dummies that can do a lot more things. Finally, what sealed the deal was their surgical skills lab. Apparently DMU is in a very small group that offers this lab, MD or DO. You basically learn the basic surgical skills, such as maintaining a sterile environment, suturing, IV insertions and anything that is trivial with surgery, like putting your gown on and washing your hands.
I was amazed by all this and how well organized everything seemed to be.
So now for the negative part (aside from the cold temp) was that we may have to do out of state rotations during our 3rd year. However, they said by the time the class of 2007 enters their 3rd year, the rotations will be all in IA so they can monitor student progress. We'll have to see about that. So this all sums up what I liked about DMU and what I didn't. Good luck to everyone.

aside from what the prior post stated, the cost of living is a real plus for me (coming from expensive chicago), no traffic any day of the week (even on friday!) and parking is cheap if not free, and i know other medical schools probably do this but you get super cool new notebooks and handhelds. The students all seem very nice and the professors as well and of course you have the malpractice bowl ( i dunno, the students there kept talking about it, some football game agaisnt law students).

Negatives would include research (not too much goin on), although I was interested it's not really a factor for me. Lecture classes can get really large (some share with podiatry students I believe), You basically have to convert your college atheletic allegiances to the hawkeyes or cyclones (i will be chicago loyal all the way),and...i cant really think of anything else. (maybe that mitochondrial mist thing...lol)

Positives definitely outweigh the negatives so choose your school on your comfort level.
 
Something else really cool DMU has added beginning in Jan. 2007. The school just purchased & is in the process of setting up eight simulator dummies that are even cooler than Harvey. These dummies have the heart & lung sounds & are supposed to serve as a SPAL patient. The best part is that they dummies might randomly go into V. Fib & you have to run a Code on the dummy by yourself.

There are ports on the arms & chest where you would have to start a line between reps of CPR & you would grab the vial labeled Epi or any of the other ACLS drugs & inject it into the arm & watch the vitals change. They also respond to oxygen by showing O2 sats increase. Sounds pretty sweet although a little intimidating.

Is that like SimMan they have at UNE & some other schools?
I've heard of one that can even deliver babies!? (WVCOM, I think?!) Wild.

I never saw the one at WVSOM deliver babies, but you never know. SimMan is excellent for anyone who hasn't had a chance to see them in action. From what I understand, DMU is planning on dedicating an entire wing to the project. Like was said above, you can "inject drugs" and see the reaction; it's done on a barcoded system. However, the pupils do dilate and, there is even an option for someone to communicate through the model; something they freaked us out with at our interview at WVSOM. Very cool stuff!

that's only after you inject SimMan and SimWoman with some ethanol, put them in the same SimLab together, and put on some nice SimBarryManilow
