If anyone out there has applied/interviewed at DMU I was just wondering how long it took from completion of file to interview invite. Thanks for any insights. : )

Hi! My file was complete in late October and I received an invite to interview about 3 weeks afterwards. I just interviewed a little over a week ago and I am waiting to hear back...

I was complete sometime in Dec. I had my interview on 1/18.

complete by Sept and interviewed in Oct...this was pretty early in the process so I am not completely sure how fast invites will be given during this stage...just be patient and prepare yourself.

does anyone know if you actually hear back within two weeks, or is this just an average? just wondering...i'm getting a bit antsy😉 thanks!!

I received an interview two to three weeks after my application was completed.

I was invited for interview about 2 weeks after I submitted my app. I interviewed on 1/19 and was accepted yesterday.

I received an interview shortly after they received my AACOMAS(they called it fastrack). I completed my app the week before interviewing(also Jan 19th), and was also accepted yesterday

Anyone hoping for a Feb interview that didnt already get an invite, just heard today that all Feb spots are full and half of March. They are reviewing new and hold apps in the next couple of weeks.

i have the interview on feb 22nd. I finished my secondary application in December.
I don't know if I should go there 'cause I already have an acceptance in my state's school. I've heard lots of good news about DMU, but it is a little far. My parents really want me to stay in NY.

Can anyone tell me reasons if I should go to the interview? Is it much better than any other DO schools?

I havn't been yet but I'm very excited.

Des Moines seems like a cozy place to live and the school seems to make an effort to put students first.

"Better" is hard to define but I would advise you to try and find a best fit for yourself since you will spend at least two years in that location.

I preferred it over the three other DO schools I interviewed at (Western, PCOM, and certainly LECOM), and the one MD school I interviewed at (Penn State).

Appreciate your opinion. What about comparing DMU with NYCOM (already got accepted) and CCOM?

I really like NYCOM and live 30 mins away from it.
But then again, that's the only DO school I have been to.

Positives: good and new facilities, nice helpful staff, recorded classes, international programs are developing

Negatives: 3rd year rotations could be assigned to Iowa, Ohio, Michigan hospitals, and very large class

Almost every doctor I've told about DMU says they think it is probably the best DO school in the country(respected school, at least in Minnesota)

As for living in Des Moines it is a fast growing city with lots of good restaruants, and activities if you have significant other coming with you. Living is MUCH cheaper, as in expensive apts are about 700/month not 1200/month in FL from what I have seen, and I have heard the same about the Northeast. Just my thoughts, I really like DMU and Des Moines, it is/was my first choice, I hope I get an interview there still.

I too am still hoping for an interview there!! Med school gods be with me please : ) good luck!!

I have my interview on the 8th. I received my invite through fast-track and my file wasn't even complete when I received the interview.

how the hell did yall receive a fast-track invite?

so I am pretty depressed about the bears🙁 ..so how about some time on sdn...👍 ...I believe you receive a fast track interview if your gpa and mcats are above some cutoff number for the school...probably above their average numbers...

Last year this time I was pissed that Seattle lost (don't get me started about that game though). Anyways, DMU was the best DO school I interviewed at out of the 6 I went to. All the reasons have already been mentioned, the school just rocks. You'll see when you go there.

A 32, 3.6 didn't get me one. Maybe it's 33, 3.7?

I was also above the school averages and didn't receive the fast track interview, so they probably look at other experience on your AACOMAS application as well as your stats. 😕

Perhaps?

I have a 3.65/29.

I'm just thankful for the interview.

They must really look at your overall application and maybe they like something for them to offer you the fast-track (maybe the personal statement)...I got a 3.66 and 28 mcat but I did get it...i guess it's a little more complex than I thought....

28P, 3.56. No FastTrack for me either, however I'm not complaining b/c the acceptance is just as sweet.

Exactly...fast-track interviews mean nothing without the acceptance....thats all that matters!👍

all these mcat numbers I have seen so far seem really good...I know the packet they gave us had an mcat average of around 26 for last year so I am guessing for this year it might be alot higher

UIC is completely correct about the average MCAT of applicants being way up this year. From what I have seen this year (which is actually a whole lot more than I thought I would) 26 is actually on the low side of what we have been getting.

This isn't to say that this is going to become a cut-off or anything, but I am just stating my surprise at the substantial increase in numbers from last year...no offense '10-ers.

Maybe we can thank the many DMU students on SDN constantly pushing for their school (ie. JBONE)...lol... ...but I do think that competition has increased everywhere in both osteopathic and allopathic schools...residency is going to be so competitive when we finally start applying with all these quality students everywhere

Yea, I should get paid for this shiz. Oh well, my reward is to see your smiling happy faces walking though our halls. LOL. 😀 =cheese moment.

I need some sleep. 😴

So recently I received a DMU email titled "You are invited to Discover Des Moines University!". Then I opened it and realized it was just an advertisement for a touring day. I'll bet that email title would have someone freaking out if they were waiting for an interview or waiting post-interview!

It freaked me out as well. Luckily it wasn't a rejection. 😉

Even funnier than that is when after I had been accepted for month or more, I got a brochure in the mail about DMU's Podiatry program. I LOL'd & threw it right in the trash. Diabetic/otherwise nasty feet are about the only thing that churn my stomach & those DPM's can be sure they will get my referrals for disgusting feet problems.

Boo creepy foot doctor!

They do have a great DPM program at DMU. I'm not a fan of feet either, but if I were I'd love to get DMU's mailings.

I don't know if I made this clear, but I'm no foot doctor! I meant a month after I had been accepted to the DO program.

You interviewed last Thursday, right? It sounds like the dean is currently reviewing the interviews from the Thursday before (Feb 1st).

Yes...I interviewed on Thursday Feb. 8th. Do you know how often do they review the files?

They really aim to let everyone know within two weeks. That's about all I know. You can always call them if you really need to know, they are much better about taking calls than some other schools.
