2024-2025 Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine (DMU-COM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I emailed them for a status. They said file is still with admissions and it'll be a little longer.
Yeah I emailed them, and they told me the same thing too, praying for both of us to get that A soon

For the Interactive, would I be overdressed if I wore a suit (I’m a lady)? I’m coming right off another interview and just want to keep it on to save time between lol

Nah. Better to overdress than underdress anyways

This school is like a toxic partner. They don’t communicate and only show interest once you disengage w them

I received the interactive last Friday on March 20th at 1pm. Does this mean I will have the whole day on Friday, March 27th to submit?

I have had some family issues come up so I may not be able to complete until that day.

You have 7 days. I literally did mine the midnight before the last day. But you should at least check in to kira if you can right now, just in case. (cannot check in on phone, must be on desktop browser).

I also had something come up, and was able to do it the Monday following my deadline. Just shoot them an email, they're very nice about it!

Received continued interest email, has this been seen as a good sign in the past?

Hey there. A bunch of us interviewed back in January and haven't received any comms about status. Are we basically on waitlist?
I was in a similar situation. Interviewed in January, waitlisted in March then accepted in May. Wouldn't count yourself out yet but at this point in the cycle there are going to be less acceptances after interviews. Good thing is DMU has a ton of waitlist movement in May if you are placed on it.

Is is reasonably easy to find an individual/group study space? Also are there any silent areas on campus since there is no library?
It's been reasonable, but it can be annoying at times. Group study spaces are definitely a challenge to get, gotta get to campus pretty early to get one. They tried to implement a system to reserve desks, but no one used it. Floors 3 and 4 are pretty quiet, especially the 3rd. I do most of my studying on the 4th and has been good enough. I would recommend noise cancelling headphones. It's been a great investment when I need to lock in and rip through anki

How has first year been? For those of us OOS from more populated cities, how is Des Moines as an area?
It's been great so far, met a ton of great people and the curriculum has been solid. Having exams every other Monday is kind of annoying, but you get used to it (it switches to every 4 or 5 weeks, cant remember exactly, as a 2nd year). I'm from OOS and a very populated city on the west coast so yeah I was a bit worried about moving here, but it's honestly been great. Most students live in West Des Moines and its a relatively new developed suburban area. Everything you'll ever need is close by and its really safe. Not a ton to do around here but downtown DSM has decent nightlife on the weekends.

This school is still doing interviews? Do they have an in-person interview or is it virtual?

1st year here if you have any questions
How often are you required to be on campus throughout the average week? My fiancee and I are moving down sometime this summer and we're looking for a place to live. We have a dog and would like to find a house with a yard so we're exploring some rental options outside of West Des Moines (as those are mostly out of our price range) and more towards the south side/windsor heights/beaverdale neighborhoods. Just curious to know how often I'll be making the commute.

It depends, but required lectures can be zoomed into. Only thing thats necessary to be in person for are labs and a few required in-person meetings you'll have throughout the blocks. There are labs 3 times a week. You'll have OMM, clinical medicine, and anatomy lab. Sometimes it'll work in your favor having multiple labs in one day, but it just really depends on how they schedule you. Second semester anatomy lab switches to every other week so it'll be even less then. So I'd say 2-3 times a week for a couple of hours at the bare minimum.

I’m nearing the 11 week mark from my interactive session back in Jan. Is this normal and are there others in the same situation?

I'm approaching the 8 week mark currently from my interactive session also back in late Jan. I emailed them and they told me the application was still with admissions and that it would be a few more weeks...

Got the kira invite a little while back but declined this week. Hope it goes to anyone still waiting for one

Anyone with a February interactive session get decisions back yet?
