Just to respond to one point here, CCOM is not actually in Chicago. It’s in a suburb of Chicago where the COL is not very high

Yea, I wouldn’t go to CCOM unless you are from the area and are able to live at home (like I was during the pre-clinical years lol), or get a scholarship like the hpsp. $80k for tuition or whatever it is now is a joke.
However, I will say that our clinical rotations are miles ahead of the preceptorships you see at a lot of DO schools. I’ve only had one rotation (psych) where I wasn’t at a teaching hospital working with residents, and our main affiliated hospital has a bunch of residencies including ortho, urology, and gen surg. Is that worth $20k more than other schools? Absolutely not 😂 But it was worth it for me to be close to home and for the other resources CCOM has

Of course! What I meant is that there are some awesome matches. 5 ortho was great, but there were around 11 students vying for an ortho spot. This means that several had to SOAP into something else. Overall, very good match list. I also think that CCOM set many students up to do well in the match, especially in competitive specialties. Prospective students just have to decide if its worth it. Clearly, you can match well from CCOM, but the tuition is ridiculously high.

Having basically all rotations at teaching hospitals/environments is hugely important. In terms of the cost, would you be willing to pay the extra tuition if it meant matching into your top competitive specialty (ENT, Ortho, Uro, Ophtho, even Gen Surg). This is one of the advantages CCOM has in that it sets you up well to match into those. I'm not defending CCOM's tuition at all. I think it's horrendous to see student's taken advantage of the way CCOM's president and upper administration do. They should be ashamed. Every year they lose out on fantastic student's due to cost. But it can't be denied that they set students up for success.
But CCOM's administration should not kid themselves, the tuition needs to, at least, be made competitive with other schools across the country.

I’m sorry but as a first year UNECOM student… this post is not relevant anymore. Things have changed since 2017.
What UNECOM is like from a graduating 4th year
I graduated from UNECOM this year and here are my reflections on my medical education. All in all, I would say that, given my options for medical school, I would go to UNECOM again. However, I also feel very strongly, as do most of my friends, that my/our successes in entering residency was in...forums.studentdoctor.net

It’s a little more relevant. 1st year has so many quizzes so we don’t fall behind which is extremely helpful in my opinion. 2nd year lectures are recorded so that has changed. And the rest really doesn’t sound that bad to me! Every school will have flaws.

PC tracks and CAT tracks at programs are the same program they interview you for both just a matter of what your goals are. They rotate through the same hospitals and are very closely integrated with very similar schedules just PC has more elective and outpatient time which can give you more time for research which is especially important in a field like H/O. Its more of an internal category than anything. Plenty of people in PC tracks actually dont go into primary care. Some people want Rheum H/O or Allergy and the PC track makes more sense. Many people in PC tracks also do fellowships even in cards and GI. They are equally competitive so that dude who matched UChi PC track is still insanely impressive. Only place where I know the trCks are completely separate is Yale PC which is a completely different program and rotate at completely different hospitals (PC track rotates mostly at Yale community affiliate hospital vs Yale New Haven hospital)

I’m a pgy-1 and when I was there it was 2hrs twice per week. So 4 hours per week total. You’re saying it’s halved now?? Can’t imagine the whining done by the faculty over that lol

Where did you find the match information? I’m trying to get KCOM’s
The (p) stands for preliminary. He also shows up on the UChicago Neurology roster where it indicates that he is doing his preliminary medicine year at UChicago. Still impressive, but it is not the same as a categorical match to UChicago IM.

Is CCF considered baller? Aren't they super DO friendly? I think Dartmouth, Brown and Hopkins Bayview all have had DO before, just not very often. I'm curious if there are any academic IM programs that have taken their first DO students (besides University of Chicago).

CCF is absolutely baller, they do take a few DO's every year tho
Absolutely spot on. I think there was one DO grad match this year in plastics at Cleveland....I think Cleveland Clinic has taken DO grads before.

@xjustcuious 100% baller despite them taking a few DOs every year. Dart has only taken 2 ever. Brown only has taken 3 ever. Dart took 1 this year and Brown actually took 4 this yr. Big year for DOs at Brown. My school matched Brown IR which is crazy good-first DO at Brown IR ever

I know UNC and UVA and even USC in so Cal did interview DO's this year but don't see any on their roster, Minnesota has several which is awesome. Vandy interviewed DO's but none on roster.. Ohio state matched a DO too, third year in row they matched a DO....
Heard of a DO interview at Yale categorical but not sure if they matched there.

UWashington IM took 3 DOs this year I think. No idea how impressive that is but I remember only a few years ago people talking about an RVU grad who matched there like it was a ceiling breaking match.

Yes the midwest seems to be a bit more open to DOs for some reason ie UChi and WUSTL. Have DOs ever interviewed at Northwestern IM? and have any DOs ever matched there?

Sorry, I have not looked into IM programs in a while since I lost interest in it and went the Neuro route instead, but are programs like Ochsner, UNLV, UIC, UTMB, OU, Wayne State, UAH not impressive? I thought that looked really good that students at my fairly new DO school matched at those programs, but I guess I don't know how high on the spectrum those programs rank.

They are but we are talking about upper mid tier and top 30 programs....
I believe all matches are impressive... but those IM programs you mentioned all routinely take DO's. I was wondering if there were any matches in the very upper echelon's of IM programs(top 20-40) of which there seems to be a few every year on the DO side...

Those programs are ok. low tier to lower mid tier at best. UIC and OU are the most impressive on that list. Any academic program lower mid tier or higher is still awesome as a DO though

It's hard to judge match lists tho... we have no clue how people ranked programs... I know of people who ranked upper mid tier programs like CCF, UT Houston lower than other programs due to location, being with SO etc...
Also, OU Tulsa is not the real flagship OU in OKC as a point of clarification.

This needs to be stickied every year. Myself and many others ranked and matched locations important to them #1 over higher ranked (arbitrarily by doximity or otherwise). You don't know the whole story although I believe you can know the trends.
