I've been noticing that most dentists have perfect teeth (blindingly white + straight). I'm not a huge fan of this look. It looks a bit generic and fake. It even looks untrustworthy to me, like the guy on the right

I am every so slightly buck-toothed and my teeth are a little off-white (except my two front teeth lol).

I don't mind my teeth and I don't think anyone looks at me and thinks I have bad teeth, but they're certainly not like the teeth in dental ads.

Do patients (or even adcoms) expect this kind of smile from a dentist? Would you (or have you) bleach/straighten your teeth for your dental career?

Don't want to be able to eat through a picket fence or have decay all over you're teeth. Other than that you're fine.

I agree, we should never trust this guy.

Dat Class II malocculsion...

Well I wouldn't take health tips from 5ft 300lb obese man. I expect my dentist to have really good looking teeth. They don't have to be like the ad you showed but I would expect them to be fairly white and straight. I am very picky about my teeth so I expect them to be taken care of by someone who is picky about theirs also (one of the biggest reasons why I first got interested in dentistry). Not saying white and straight is what defines good oral care but it shows that person has gone the extra mile and certainly reflects positively in my opinion.

A certain minimum is required I guess, but I'm not expecting dentists to have extra white teeth and a perfect alignment.
Don't we say that "the shoemaker's children always go barefoot"?

Free dental work in dental school, of course you will get perfect teeth!! let your classmate practice on you lol

That guys teeth looks normal to me .. It's not super straight . I was expecting you to post someone with denture like teeth

Perfect teeth are a must….just as all physicians cannot be overweight.

Hi,

I have a 26 on my DAT and a 3.9 science GPA and 3.92 overall GPA. I also have shadowed a lot and have 5 dental research articles published with my name as the first author. However, I have really crooked teeth and was wondering whether Harvard will accept me if I have crooked, yellow teeth. Should I just get all my teeth removed and replaced with implants? Should I get this treatment 1 week before my Harvard interview or 1 month before the interview?

Thanks and good luck to all.

A month earlier will probably help you WAY MORE.

More than a month for sure. Your implants may get placed after the extractions but that depends. You may need time for the bone to heal before you get them inserted which will add time. Then you'll need crowns made which takes another two weeks or so depending on the lab. Hope this helps!

i need jaw surgery first before perfect teeth...🙁

I wonder the same thing! Even though I have nice teeth I automatically get self-conscious and put my lips over my teeth right after telling people I'm going to be a dentist. Lol

If you really go to all that trouble I sure hope Harvard appreciates it! During the interview you should say, do you realize what I have just done for you?

Lol, OP! One would certainly hope not! I'm missing my #7 and #10 teeth (congenitally). 4 Failed bone grafts, 3 failed implant surgeries, and 2.5 years of ortho later, I'm still missing them. There is no way in hell I'm letting a student try to fix this mess, when 3 different periodontists failed.

Guys. I have 3 extracted teeth in the lower jaw (molars) and some fillings at the molars at the upper jaw. Soon I will have implants so I could get my teeth fixed... can I still be a dentist even if I dont have natural teeth?

I think my teeth got worse after braces. My Class II malocclusion isnt even fixed yet and I have an uneven jaw, flaring anterior teeth.
Very self-conscious about this. Its also one of the reasons I've been having MAJOR doubts about continuing dental school :/

I wonder if dental students get a discount on invisalign and procedures at school
I heard from a LLU dental student that the first visit takes 6 hours. So pack your lunch and dinner if you're planning to get one.

You'll get discount in general if you go to a dental school for procedures. My neighbor bragged about the low cost at Western and he has been going for over five years.

im not entirely sure about that from where Im from. I think our school is very strict about that and doesnt allow doing dental work aside from our requirements.
