also I think offering you the secondaries has nothing to do with GPA or MCAT...they just look if you have met the requirements (like prereqs, made the cut-offs etc) and if you do, then they send you the secondary...
Hey guys,
For those of you who applied to KCUMB, did you get the secondary application?
I received a secondary from them 2 weeks after AACOMAS submitted my primary to the school. Since, your stats are really good 👍, I think that they might think that you are only applying to their school as a "safety net".
KCUMB auto secondaried me too. Personally it sounds like there may had been an issue downloading your application or something.
When DMU first downloaded my application my GPA was listed as a 0.0 because AACOMAS glitched. Thankfully they were nice enough to call me about it so I knew and could deal with it. I had AACOMAS send out my file again in the next weeks batch and it worked and I suddenly caught a flood of secondaries. Just a thought. Cause secondaries are almost always based off of an arbitrary GPA cutoff thats well below a 3.8 and 36.
The big Canadian loving schools are Touro-NY, AZCOM, Western, and NSU. Sure the other schools might say they accept Canadians, but look at the statistics of Canadian acceptances. Just keep that in mind before dishing out a bunch of money. For example: I contacted LECOM-B and they told me they accepted Canadians. I applied and got a letter saying they do not accept internationals and therefore have to reject me.
Good luck🙂
hey guys
I just posted a thread which you can find here:

If you can answer it, please do. Appreciate it.👍
Thanks
haha wow well first off you are a total UBC pre-med😛, your lowest mark is a B? Thats not academic difficulty are you joking lol let me guess Chem 233. I was in the biochem program in second year (back when it was hard) and have a D in Math 200. As you know, we cant retake courses at UBC unless you fail. Anyway, my D is academic difficulty.
As for shadowing, you CAN shadow a DO. I went to UBC and live in Vancouver, I was able to find one. You can too🙂 dont give up. Also they will think its a little weird you are Canadian with no experience shadowing a DO, in my opinion. Not to offend you but definitely find to get LOR from
good luck
This man speaks the truth, listen to him. I applied to almost the entire Canadian friendly list and after secondaries only heard back from NSU and AZCOM and was accepted at both. So honestly don't waste your money. That Canadian friendly school list badly needs to be updated.
And, to make the future even more bleak. NSU's website now says they no longer accept Canadian applicants. I think I was probably the last/one of the last to be accepted.
Just talked with Linda Ferrif in the Admissions Office, and she said NSU is still accepting internationals. Phew!! Thank you for "helping" me thru a horrendous weekend!
Guys I understand you are just trying to act as guides and I really appreciate you for that. The question was really why I didn't receive a secondary from KCUMB... I believe I am competitive and so is everybody in this forum: we all have average GPA and MCAT higher than an average American student. Although I completely understand that they will prefer their own students (even though the schools are private even though they officially say they do not distinguish between applicants). But in any case, my message to my fellow Canadians will be to apply to every school that you believe you are competitive for.
Just got interview invite to Western U for Dec 11th. Im soooo stressed about it because I will be interviewing in New York Dec 8th.....and flying back to Vancouver arriving Dec 10th at 1am.....will be in Van for like 5 hours then fly to Cali....practice and relax for the night...than interview 8am in Cali. haha I will have been in 2 countries, 2 states, and one province within 12 hours😛

just wondering, did you get the interview invite recently ? if so, when were you complete? i haven't heard a peep from them 🙁
Thank you... DMU sent an invite early Oct as soon as they received my primary. They have this thing where if you meet their minimum requirement they sent you an automatic invite. I interviewed their Nov 4. I got AZCOM on Nov 4. I had interview invite for Nov 5 actually... since I was already booked to return to Canada I couldn't go to Glendale that soon.
Touro-NY and Western guys were complete long time before. But hang in there!
I wish to join you for the Western interview so badly! I will sell a kidney for that place! When you were you complete for Western mauve?
Western - and its students I'm sure - would appreciate that very much in Anatomy. But if you don't mind, why would you bestow that honour on Western vs other schools?🙂Western - and its students I'm sure - would appreciate that very much in Anatomy. i submitted stuff in oct but i think they got everything in the first week of Nov. I also had some phy credit issue to clear up.
.VPP, do you know what the min requirements were for DMU for the automatic interview? Just curious cuz I got rejected pre-secondary lol
Thanks
What's up fellow Canadians?
I'm a Canadian who got in to Western University (using my American citizenship). I've been in the USA since high school, but my father still lives in Toronto. I have a few questions that I was hoping you could answer:
1) Can I still get financial aid from Ontario? I didn't apply to medical school as an Ontario resident but I visit regularly for summers.
2) Are Canadian specialties as open to DO's as the American ones? Is is feasible to get into an orthopedic surgery residency as a DO? I know it's difficult no matter what school you go to, but relatively speaking, is there a significant amount of prejudice towards DO's?
3) Is it true that with recent reforms that the brain drain is now reversed, with more US doctors heading to Canada than Canadian ones heading to the USA?
Thanks everyone!

For first, I think you can get funding if your dad is canadian citizen or if you still hold canadian PR. you will have to check with financial institution.
2)- it's going to be very very very tough- highly unlikely.
3) No for sure.
Thanks for the replies everyone. Regarding the competitive specialty, Am I corect assuming that post residency, positions are easier to come by then?

Hey UBC,
I am not really sure but I think it's for the non-canadian international, who would need visa for interview. College would not sponsor visa paper for interview. We don't need to worry about it. If you do decide to call them, can you please update it here?
Just wondering, Has any1 got an interview from KCUMB yet?
I found this on the Canadian Osteopathic Association website (http://www.osteopathic.ca)

NEWS BULLETIN
CANADIAN STUDENTS
Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM) has announced its intent to recruit 20-25 qualified Canadian students each year over the next 2-3 years to help promote osteopathic medicine in Canada. Graduates of MSUCOM as well as other American Osteopathic Association accredited osteopathic medical schools are entitled to full practice in Canada. They are allowed entrance to the Medical Council of Canada, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the College of Family Physicians of Canada examinations. These graduates can complete post graduate training in Canada or the United States. They are eligible to practise through the various Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons across Canada and are given the same practice rights as their allopathic (M.D.) colleagues. MSUCOM has taken the initiative to recruit qualified Canadian applicants and will be setting a special tuition rate for these students, the amount to soon be determined. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medical Schools web site where one can link to each of the osteopathic medical schools. It is not too late to apply this year. The Canadian Osteopathic Association encourages applicants for future years to review all the prerequisite requirements. Osteopathic medical schools admit on a rolling basis and as such it is beneficial to have your application ready to go, including MCAT results, when the application cycle begins typically in May for the following year.

I think MSU's OOS tuition is $70k and I didn't bother applying there. Maybe, someone should email them and ask what will be the approximate tuition...
Perhaps, initiative like one will result in more recognition of DOs in Canada and is good news for people like us who are going to a DO school next year.![]()
While I think thats great what MSUCOM is doing for Canadians, MSUCOM is an incredibly time consuming pain in the butt to apply to (their secondary). They are the only medical school I know of that makes each reference fill out 4 pages of forms about you, and a letter of reference is not good enough. Think about the average applicant for a second. most people get their reference letters from profs they had 2-3 years ago or doctors they shadowed in the past. While most of my reference wrote AMAZING letters for me, I know none of them would be comfortable filling out 4 pages of questions about me. To do this and get a good reference, you would need to know the reference for like 2 years. This is not the typical scenario for references as an undergrad at the average Canadian university, in my opinion.
For this snobish (as I like to think of it) reason I will not be applying MSU. On top of this, their tuition is absolutely ridiculous. If you know anything about how returning to Canada works (honestly, without getting optimistic...theres a difference), it makes no difference is you attend MSU for this "program" rather than any other school accepting Canadians.
In my opinion, its a cash grab for them....and there is much better DO schools for Canadians
