Yeah, I am an incoming student to RVU-CO and am hoping they continue to find high success in those specialties. I was definitely thrown off by the UT numbers though.

Don’t get too tripped up with this thread before official data is released. There’s always a lot of rumor, half truth, and speculation until match lists and hard numbers are published.

One thing to keep in mind when reading that thread (and I followed it too, and was stressed out for them): A lot, if not most, of the people who are posting in that thread are IMGs. If I understand the data from the last Match, it was actually them, and not us, who got squeezed as a result of the merger.

Then you have the strange confluence of events due to COVID, which (thankfully) won't be replicated for you guys.

Based on how many SOAPed last year, that wasn’t worse advice for them to give.

That wouldn’t be a bad idea. The average FMG was applying to 90 back in 2019. I am sure it’s higher now. All I will say is, it’s hard to regret having more options, and it really takes several interviews before you figure out what you want from a program, and that info isn’t always available on the website.

I am a USDO but I am trying to match with a SO who’s in podiatry school right now, so it kind of complicates things lol

Pulling from another thread on our previous conversations, that’s why we were saying if you are close application wise then it’s worth reapplying USMD. You are talking about applying to 100 IM programs as a DO without red flags, that would be laughable in the USMD world. Now imagine wanting anything even remotely competitive.

Yes it certainly complicate things but if you are flexible geographically you should be fine.

Pretty much this. Of the people unmatched at my school only 1 was a surprise to me. The rest were not. They all had one of the things listed here. A few were applying competitive things and knew SOAP was a significant possibility and had a good strategy going into SOAP and had decent outcomes

It really is a crapshoot in the end. No one really knows how close they came to not matching. The places we match at could be the only places that even ranked us.

Yes it certainly complicate things but if you are flexible geographically you should be fine.

Yea I mean I was only applying to 100+ programs because I want to match with my SO, or else I would prbly be applying to 50-75 and save some $$$ with no red flags, USDO and an above average step 1, and some research. The current 4th years at my schools with simmilar apps have gotten a good number of interviews in IM with 50-75 apps.

Yeah that is true. Nontheless applying to prs with bad scores and 4000 fm programs leaves lots of room for sage advice in the middle.

Per the precedent the exceptionally handsome OP started in last year's DO match list thread, the OP of the thread should compile lists in the first post and update them regularly.

Of course. Yeah got to stay on your toes and apply to many programs with a podiatry spouse. The cost/added debt can feel suffocating like you're neck about mid-tibia deep in water, but ultimately it's worth the cost.

But the way some people hoard interviews I dont doubt there are USMD's applying to way more than 30 tbh, and DO's always apply to more to be rather safe than sorry and end up cancelling a bunch, anyways lets not for the love of god make this into another dumb USMD vs DO thread...

For University of Incarnate Word, they haven't given us an official match list yet and not everyone wanted to announce their results at the virtual match event, but what I have is below. Apparently the vast majority of people matched without SOAPing, at least that's what people are saying.

IM - 20
FM - 16
EM - 3
Peds - 5
GS - 3
Gas - 2
OB/GYN - 6
Psych - 4
PM&R - 2
Path - 2
Vascular surgery - 1
Neuro developmental disabilities - 1
Surgery prelim - 1

Probably the most notable matches were family medicine at Mayo, vascular surgery at USF, pathology at Vanderbilt, and neuro developmental disorders at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children's.

I'm reviewing the matches now, and TCOM seemingly had another great match year. Multiple ortho matches (at least 3), IM spots at places like San Antonio, Dell, UTH, UTMB, a couple out in SoCal, EM at places like UTSW, UNC, and Chicago, NeuroSurg at San Antonio and DR at UA Phoenix

Congrats to everyone at TCOM and everyone whom matched!
