Was just watching Seinfeld (rarely do) and Kramer and George were shopping for wine. They pick out a $12 bottle.

Kramer:"I'll have to pay you back I don't have my wallet"
George:"Why don't you have your wallet?"
Kramer:"I don't like to carry my wallet."
George:"Why don't you like to carry your wallet?"
Kramer:"It's too heavy, and besides, my osteopath says its bad for my spine...gets me off kilter"

😳

Funny, I was just watching that also.

I think they might have been referring to chiropractors.

OH NO I DI-NT...

Larry David's (creator/current Curb your Enthusiasm star) uncle is a DO. He references it once on Curb too.

Gotta go through my complete collection and look for that scene. I love Seinfeld

Not exactly my ideal idea of a DO reference, but I'll take it over nothing. I could just see it promoting a DO=alternative medicine idea among the general public. Then again, forget about the general public, most of them don't even know what an MD really is.

Curb is hilarious! If you like Seinfeld then Curb will blow your doors off. Larry David is insane!

Agreed. Ever since Seinfeld was over, I've been in a void so to speak. But CYE is nearly as good, if not better.

I think it would've been great if in ER they had one DO show up as an intern or something. Also, House should have a DO show up on staff too. Though, with House, it'd probably mean a lot of sarcastic jokes towards the DO. I'd watch it.

The original medical advisor from ER was a DO from Western:

Jon W. Fong, DO—Served as a technical advisor for NBC’s nighttime drama “ER.” In this capacity, he orchestrated medical procedures on the show and trained the actors to realistically mimic medical procedures and discuss medical topics

I shadowed a physician from Western who knew him (err something related to him) and explained how he got the gig and stuff. Just kind of ironic when people talk about a 'DO' on ER, when there was technically a real DO on ER. BTW, I've never seen a single episode of that show so I can't really comment on how it should have been, etc.

That's awesome. I wonder what that guy is doing now. The show was pretty cool, thoracotomies happen every other episode. It honestly probably wouldn't have mattered if there was a DO on the show or not. They never really talk about where they went to medical school and even if a DO was mentioned, it'd probably just blow by the public and become an afterthought anyway.

I believe that one is called "The Dinner Party" if I'm not mistaking. Its the one with the black and white cookie monologue that jerry gives to elaine in the bakery. Hope this helps!

Started watching Seinfeld with my dad in 92' if you can believe it. Though I didn't get most of the jokes til I was much older..

Forgive my ignorance, I saw maybe 2 episodes of curb your enthusiasm ever. What was the context of that scene? Was he just joking around? (I've heard of this scene from elsewhere, but didn't really get the context).

I've honestly never seen that exact episode (which is surprising because I used to watch the show quite a bit), but I'm pretty sure I can sum it up:

1. Yes, he is definitely kidding
2. It's likely that his own awkwardness landed him in some sort of odd situation where he has to fake being an incest survivor to get out of it, and he thought this would do the trick
3. I've actually heard something where he talked about this uncle (The DO) before and said he is/was (I don't know if he's still alive) a great guy, Larry respects what he does, he thinks the jokes are funny, etc.

I really didn't take it as a rip on DOs.
