Hey guys,

I'm a DO student and have not taken USMLE yet. I want to go into an ACGME OB/Gyn program. What kind of score should I be shooting for? Obviously the higher the better, but if I applied broadly would a 220 give me a good chance at matching? I've searched but couldn't really get a good handle on much. Any help would be great. Many thanks.

You've probably seen the Charting Outcomes in the Match 2014 before, but if you haven't, that's the best guide you'll likely get. I've put the relevant graphs here. All told, a 220 puts you at/above 90% probability of matching, and US graduating seniors seem to do well. But you're right, the higher the better. Unfortunately I'm not familiar how DOs get evaluated in ACGME programs. From 22031Alum's response in the other recent thread with a DO applicant, having a Step 1 score will at least give you some sort of objective comparison to allopathic applicants.

Thank you for responding. Unfortunately, since DOs are lumped in with IMGs and FMGs under the independent applicants, it can be difficult to interpret the graph accurately.

It all depends on applying intelligently. You could have a score in the 270s and still go unmatched, maybe even uninterviewed, if you applied to the wrong programs. That said, I'll say that a 230 marks a "good chance" at matching.
