Currently completing my secondary drafts and a few schools have asked questions about areas you want to pursue like advocacy and serving an underserved group. I am Active duty mil and want to support and provide care for veterans, especially disabled veterans but I can not find a clear answer if they constitute underserved because of the VA system.

Someone who has served in the military can provide that little bit extra to veterans. (I may be biased as my dad was a mental health provider in the VA after having served in the Navy and I think he related to what his patients had been through.) Veterans are a group that has had difficulty accessing care given the lack of providers willing to work at the VA (remember the long wait times and the changes in policy to make community care available when wait times were too long?).

I think it makes perfect sense for someone currently on active duty to express an interest in working with disabled veterans as an underserved group and one in need of advocacy.

I think it is reasonable to refer to veterans, especially disabled/homeless/PTSD veterans, as an underserved community. Though the VA has it's complications and issues, most healthcare systems do. I'd suggest you focus less on it's shortcomings and more on what you hope to provide veterans as a physician.

Choose to take a more positive tone when answering these questions if you catch my drift. TYFYS my friend!

Agree with the comments above. Keep in mind that Adcoms love veterans, period.

Mine did. It was also a very easy way to connect with certain adcom members. Heck, it could be one of the largest factors towards me getting the A, for all I know.

Yes. Not all veterans become officers.

Under "housing rehabilitation"
