Do you reply to confirmation emails for internships?

Not sure if I should reply or not. I submitted an app and a few days later got a reply, Hi ___, thanks for submitting, we will carefully review your app in the upcoming weeks, etc.

Is there an appropriate response to this or are we supposed to just sort of leave it?

I wouldn't respond to that. It is basically just a confirmation that they received your application.

I wouldn't reply. Also, expect no reply a lot of the time from internship sites when you engage in excessive emailing behaviors. See below for an example.

"Thank you for interviewing me. Your site is great, and so are you."

"Thank you for thanking me. We like you and wish you well."

"Thank you for thanking me for thanking you. It is so nice to feel such a connection and I am grateful for your reply."

"Thank you for thanking me for thanking you for thanking me the initial time. [unsaid: The only reason I would keep an email string like this going is either out of boredom, or because we actually do want to rank you highly]. Cheers."
