Arabic is great. Once you learn it, it makes learning other Middle Eastern languages a lot easier. I'm starting to learn some Farsi, and it is really helpful to already know the alphabet.

2nd Spanish, 3rd Japanese (proficiency) WOOHOO!
I'm terrible at languages
I've taken years and years of Mandarin, Spanish, and French... the only one I still remember much at all of is Mandarin... and thats because I'm Chinese
.
I forget languages really quickly if I don't use them. If I end up in an area with lots of spanish patients, I'll probably crack open my spanish books again and relearn it all. Hola senor, donde esta el dolor? Oh man I suck at spanish but hmmm no accents makes me happy.

I speak fluent French (since I live in Canada) fluent Arabic (my major), and currently learning Spanish. Bueno!

For some reason I want to learn both of those languages. They offer Hindi at my school; I'm thinking of taking it over the summer.

You know Penn has a great program to teach these languages. I wish I could have fit it into my schedule while I was a PB here but there just wasn't any way for me to get it in since it always fell on days that I had a requirement to take. Not sure where you're from but a big state university and diverse university may offer classes.
I'm in South Jersey. I'm taking a lot of classes this semester as well as working and doing research, so unless it's at my school, I probably don't have time to do it.

Most definately! I started learning while I was in china last summer..and let's just say it took a while to make sure you were saying the right thing to the taxi driver so you wouldn't end up on the other side of town. 😛

It is amazing how incredibly similar the romance languages are. I can actually understand nearly everything you guys said though I've never studied French. Of course if you were saying it it would be much more difficult for me.
Yeah, that does help when learning. Unfortunately, I don't understand the language when spoken quickly/fluently / can't reply effectively in real-time quite that well, but ... un jour, je suppose.

je dois prendre un cours de grammaire. je me debrouille bien en parlant, mais les regles de grammaire me semble floues par moment.

i think reading is the easiest part. you can make out parts that are familiar and go at your own pace.
listening to French people talk on tv is a whole other story. i'm used to the sing-song African French. I find French French kinda monotone and French people tend to mumble.

See what I am talking about? My goal is to be conversational in all the romance languages except romanian. I think it's definitely feasible. 🙂

Once you understand the grammatical aspect of one the others easily follow.
