Does this seem doable?

I am considering retaking organic chemistry so I can apply to more schools next year in the event I don't get in this year. However this means I would be taking biology and A&P and organic at the same time. However I would not be retaking organic lab. So it would just be biology and A&P lab. It seems like it could be really killer. I work about 25 hours a week. I think I can do it, but, I donno. Any feedback would be appricated.

Anatomy at my schools was INTENSE and required hours of intense studying and review.... The class was a 5 hr class and I took Physics, another 5hrs at the same time. Those two classes together was more than enough work (I rounded it off with two other blow off classes).

My assessment: it might be too much. You don't want to risk getting lower than expected grades in Biology and A+P.

Only you know how much you can manage. However, since you did take organic chemistry before, I hope you at least retained some of it. This would mean it wouldn't be AS intense as the first time you take it. It really should be a review for you (depending on how bad your performance was). With that said, the difficulty of A&P seems to vary from school to school. It isn't that it is a hard class, rather there is just a lot to memorize in a short amount of time. Ultimately, it will be your time management skills that will allow you to be successful. I can tell you from experience that working + school is hard (I am working about 20 hours a week and taking 17 credits as a P1), but it is definitely "doable" if you have the dedication and focus.

As posted earlier, this is a question for yourself. You should sit down and do a no-bull**** assessment of your time management skills and obligations/responsibilities.

What biology? Usually a year of gen bio is a pre-req for A&P

I don't know... Orgo seems pretty hard (haven't taken it yet) and I'm breezing by A&P + lab easy even though its the first couple of weeks. A&P's material is very straightforward I'd like to add. It'd be Orgo i'd be more concerned about. How well is your chemistry background? How well did you do in CHM 1 and 2? Did you retain most of your knowledge and notes from the last time you took Orgo? Also I'd like to point out it depends on how long your term is for each class. If its all spread out as a full semester you might be okay.

Oh and to Phathead: I haven't finished my year of Biology yet (Bio was full this semester) and I'm taking A&P 1. I guess it varies with schools.

Actually, I was asking the OP about bio.

If you haven't taken Orgo, you really can't give out advice about it. Gen Chem and Orgo are different beasts. I never had to study in gen chem, but I was studying almost nightly for Orgo.

And wait until you get farther into A&P. You won't really know how much you have to learn until the first test.

I agree with the posts above: you've taken Organic before AND you're not being burdened with the lab, so that shouldn't really be ranked as a "difficult" course for you, so much as it should be considered review. A victory lap. 😀

That leaves you with A&P and Bio, which plenty of people have taken at the same time without issue, even while working 25 hours a week.

If you're able to manage your time wisely, and you're not a WoW-addict, this schedule is definitely doable.

I worked 40 hrs/week through A&P II, Bio II, and OChem II. But that's me, and I don't have a social life. If you didn't do well in OChem the first time, don't you think doing it in a harder semester would be... worse?

Okay, first, I am at a university that has a quarter system. I should have said that in the beginning. So, with that being said, biology is not a pre rec for A&P. I have taken both the first term (part 1 of 3) in both biology and A&P. I did well and understand how the classes work. As for organic, I took 4 hours of lab(3/3) and 8 hours of lecture(2/3). It isn't that I didn't do well, I got A's in lab and B's in lecture. All I needed for the school I am applying to is 12 quarter hours so I didn't need to take term 3 of organic. I am considering making it so that I can apply to another school next year if I do not get in this year. This is why I am reconsidering organic. I am not ABOUT to just try and take the third term of organic with 2 years off! That would be insane! So, with this information, does anyone else have additional insight?

Something else I would like to mention, I live in Oregon and am only applying to Pacific currently. I am unable to move out of state for school due to personal issues, this is why I am considering retaking some classes so I can apply to OSU. However, I don't really want to go to OSU. I feel in love with everything about Pacific. Should I bother taking these classes, so I can apply in the event I don't get in, to a school that is a distant second choice for me? Is it worth it to KEEP trying as long as it takes if you have your heart set on one school. Is it just school after all and the ultimate goal is more important. Again, thanks for any insight.

Yeah true I have yet to take Orgo and I only know the basics. Gen Chem was not really that easy either.
Time will tell. I'm actually studying for A&P now Genetics and Histology chapters.
Studying to ace the test tomorrow. And back to studying I go.

This may very from place to place, but gen chem is a snooze fest. It really wasn't difficult at all, esp. compared to Orgo. If Gen Chem was seemed hard at all, Orgo will be <insert explenative>. Of course people respond to various subjects with different degrees of aptitude but Gen Chem is the easiest science pre-req. Just my two cents.
