Recruiter said No COT for the summer which I thought was cool. Turns out they don't issue school orders before they begin the stipend so life sucks. I have to get a *gasp* job! Damn it.
Contract is signed and delivered... had my dad (former Army) swear me in now I'm just waiting for my orders to come on down (as they say on the price is right.
Thanks BTW

So will you have to wait until you graduate to do it? Or try to fit it in next summer so you can spend quality time with me?
Do you guys know when we are getting our stipend? I heard in July.
From what I read on AFIT, it's dependent on your school start date. They also say to expect a delay until the next pay period (i.e. if your school starts the 1st, you'll receive pay the 15th or whatever the next pay date is).
That's what credit is for my friend... the little plastic guy in your wallet... just make sure to fed him so you don't owe too much in interestIf that's the case, then I'm in for a tough wait. No savings. 🙁
I guess that means no COT for me this summer, either, based on what you said, but I haven't heard from my recruiter or AFIT about it definitively, so I'm still stuck in limbo. 🙁 I guess I'll ask when I get commissioned.
My recruiter did tell me that it was either this summer, or after I graduate. The summer after second year is kind of sacred: boards.

I see. That means it should start on the 15th of August for me, since I start school on the 4th (mandatory second year orientation). That's a long wait, but I guess that's how it was for my FA last year, anyway. I guess I'll have to hold off on buying furniture and all for my new place.
Max, I'll PM you the phone number I have for USAA.
or go to their website, USAA.com
USAA is great, I have had them as a bank, credit card, savings, and property insurance for a long time and have only good things to say
Jolie,I'm going to switch all my banking over to them. Not looking forward the hassle of it all, but I'm tired of arses at Bank of America.
They find a way to tack on a fee for everything. Look at their website too much and that's $25 right there. I got overdraft protection connected to my savings thinking that it would be a great way to avoid overdraft charges (which are usually my husband's fault), but they still charge you to take the money out of savings. What's kind of "protection" is that? I might as well go negative. sorry. /rant
Well then that would be a bad omen. I did my commissioning on a 4th? Is there anything wrong with doing it on a Wednesday the fourth? Anything I should know about? So this is ironic, got a call from my recruiter today. They wanted to schedule my commisioning for Friday June 13th. I told him no, I refuse to be commissioned on Friday the 13th, just don't want to start out on the wrong foot. So it will be the following Monday or Tuesday

LauraDO, I kid, I kid. Why can't they do it this Monday or Tuesday?
Well congrats on the commissioning. Wish you went Army instead of AirFarc 😛I think Wed the 4th is fine 🙂
My recruiter, who just got promoted to 'top recruiter' or something, has a training session this Mon-Thursday. Which is why Friday is the first time it would work this week
I am sort of bummed though, my Dad was going to try to come out and commission me, but flights are just to amazingly expensive (in the $1300) range, so I am going to be all by myself
Well congrats on the commissioning. Wish you went Army instead of AirFarc 😛
When I did mine on Wednesday it took me longer to sign the contract than the actual ceremony. Had my dad read me the oath took a picture and my recruiter departed. That was it, but then again I'm not very big on celebrations and whatnot.
Now I'm waiting for my orders to come in so I can go get my ID card and receive my first salute, for four years I always had to salute officers now it'll be my turn to have enlisted salute me... I kid.
Gifts? There were supposed to be gifts? I got no stinking gifts. Now I feel suckered. If I knew the AF was giving out enlistment gifts in addition to the bonus and tuition/stiped I would have gone with them even if it was a pen.Army had their chance with me, just too slow on the get go 🙂
What gifts did your recruiter give you? That is what I'm most excited about, as stupid as it sounds, I feel like a kid on christmas, ha ha

All joking aside. Recruiters actually give their enlistee's gifts. This is the second time I'm doing this and I have never heard about this.
Ha, ha see, I told you AF was better, I mean who cares about residency, I get gifts!
I thought everyone recieved gifts at commissioning, I'm not sure all of what I will get, but I know I have AF scrubs, other assorted AF clothing, AF pin, AF ink pens (of which I already have one, which I must say is one of the best pens I have ever had, yet again our tax dollars put to good work)
Now I am really excited, I'll have to post all of what I get afterward
Don't feel bad you didn't get gifts though, I would guess I'm cuter😀
I think that's it. It's the fact that you are cuter than I am. Your recruiter is just trying to hit on you thats all. Besides I'm not to thrilled with the Army track suit. Oh quick question, its becoming more popular for girls to wear pants/shorts with a slogan on the posterior area sayings like "cute" or "pink" does the air force scrubs say Air Force in that area, because if they did I would think that would be pretty funny.Ha, ha see, I told you AF was better, I mean who cares about residency, I get gifts!

Oh and what happened to your bananas? Did you lose them?
oh damn I've been studying for finals too longI think my bananas will only show up once on every page? all sigs are like that.....or maybe they split?oh damn I've been studying for finals too long
Yeah, I know the feeling. Get used it; there's much more to come. You'll learn to feel comfortable with lack of sleep and studying entirely too much; you may even think it's normal, midway through your first year. 😉 Anyway, I bet you are excited about getting done with your last set of exams from premed, moving to FL, and getting started with medical school. I remember this time last year. It's a great feeling starting your MS-I year...

Congratulations, on your commission date. 👍 I'm sorry that your dad can't come out to be with you in person, to do the ceremony with you... I'm still waiting to hear about mine. I hope it's soon. I'd like to tie up loose ends, so I can do something fun and/or productive this summer (right now, I'm in waiting-mode, which isn't much fun, nor is it productive)...this has been dragging on for a while now.
Also, I didn't know we got goodies...![]()
Still think you should have gone to LECOM E as well as join the Army, but it's your life... 😛I am so excited right now I feel like I am going to burst! I am still sort of in a state of disbelief really, but I am more than ready (especially considering the fact it is June and I am still wearing a ski jacket outside, right now I have on jeans and a cartigan sweater, something is wrong with that picture
Maybe your background check is taking longer than mine, all that terrorism activity in your past is sure to cause some concern don't you think?

Seriously the commissioning will be over faster than you know it so if you want have someone take a picture or videotape (do people still use those?) it. All the oath takes is two minutes to recite and repeat but then you'll be an officer and be a proud member of our armed forces.
Although I do not know what the Army slogan is but when I get to a base somewhere and tell a solider "Semper Fi" (the Marine Corps slogan) they will look at me funny. Also I'm not sure I'll ever get over saying Hoo YA instead of HooRah, I trained at Ft. Irwin once and it was odd when the Army officer said HooYA, we Marines tried not to laugh. I need to get ready for the culture shock and the disparity between the two services (not to mention the fact that Army can wear cammies off base while in the Marine Corps you were not allowed to)
Laura, Laura, Larua... Why would I try to be like my kid sister? I'm the older brother here. My school has been around longer and so has my service. If anything you are trying to be like me but its ok I know I have big shoes* to fill. Maybe one day you'll grow into them and don't worry I use tuff acting tinactin to get rid of the oder. ;-)Yeah, it wouldn't be a good idea at all to say Semper Fi, not at all🙂
You know you are sort of like me alter ego, you are going to my brother school, you are in my brother service, you are trying everyway you can to be like me.....it is ok, there is no shame, if I wasn't me, I would want to be like me too👍

Laura,
Tomorrow is the big day, excited? Nervous?
Anyway anyone know how long it take to get my orders? I signed the contract on 6/4 so I would like to see some paperwork on it. Thanks.
Oh, OK then... like all men I'm confused and don't listen. Well do you know what day it is next week? No, remember I told them I wouldn't do it on Friday the 13th, so it will be sometime next week (as yet to be scheduled)
That is sort of weird you haven't gotten your orders yet...who knows, its the government
Now, to set a date...Oh, OK then... like all men I'm confused and don't listen. Well do you know what day it is next week?
Finally! I am ready to be commissioned. Now, to set a date...

That's right... I remember now. Air Power... eh... I guess you have to warm up to it.I asked this once. The answer, which was more embarrassing that any Air Force Joke, is apparently "Air Power". I'm told it's not said often.
That's right... I remember now. Air Power... eh... I guess you have to warm up to it.
AIR POWER, AIR POWER, AIR POWER, AIR POWER, AIR POWER, AIR POWER, AIR POWER, AIR POWER, AIR POWER, AIR POWER, AIR POWER, AIR POWER, AIR POWER, AIR POWER, AIR POWER, AIR POWER, AIR POWER, AIR POWER, AIR POWER, AIR POWER, AIR POWER, AIR POWER
Nope, still sounds funny. 😆😆😆
Ok, Thursday is the day, finally.............Air Power (as she raises her Super hero shield, jumps in the air and flys off into the sunset) Hoorah!!!
So when are we gonna hook up? PGY-2 sound good?
(joining you in this land of make believe LOL)
Congrats 🙂 Can't wait for the next couple of weeks... goin down to OBX then gettin commissioned when I get back! Nice. Too bad they wont pay me a dime until August...

Laura,
You ever find out what goodies they'll give you? Hey it's the AF, maybe you'll get your very own Tomcat. (the fighter not the whoppied ninnie who jumps on Opra's couch during an interview)
Take lots of pictures 🙂

If you have a mac I'll iChat video conference with you and I'll watch. Yes it would be weird but you'll have someone there with you, sortofNope, I don't know anything more than what I posted before. The excitment is looming largely. I feel sort of stupid because I will be all by myself, my Dad was going to try to come commission me, but it was scheduled to late for him to get a reasonably priced plane tix, so it will be me, myself and I, loser with no friends and family there![]()
