Done with my first semester, how do my stats look so far?

So I'm done with my first semester of college and it was an ok semester. I also have credits from my senior year of high school at this university so that will help boost my GPA as well, how do my stats look so far?

Senior year of High School- classes through university
Calculus 1: A
Calculus 2: A
English 101: A-
Speech 101: A-

First semester of College
Chem 1: A
Psychology 101: A
Ethics: A-
Bio 1: C

Science GPA(including Calculus): 3.53
Overall GPA: 3.63
Obviously everything looks pretty good on my application except for the C in biology.

What do you guys think about my stats so far and will that C in biology effect me much if I improve the rest of my biology grades? Should I retake that Bio class?
 
Not bad at all. Good job in chem. I almost done with my first semester of sophomore year and I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up with a B or B- in Chem 2. I've never gotten an A in gen chem. I finish off my first semester of college with a 3.81 gpa but ever since then it's dropped. It's currently a 3.62 and I have a feeling it's going to drop again after this semester. which really worries b/c the adcoms will see this on my transcript.
 
Your gpa will fluctuate alot over your first couple of semesters because you haven't taken that many credit hours. Just try and keep it around 3.6+ and you will be good to go.

And don't make anymore C's!!

i had 1 C+ in my entire transcript and it was the first quarter of college

I got interviews and haven't been rejected yet GPA 3.5
 
I began college with 2 F's because I forgot to drop them. (another university). I finished UG with a 3.73 ogpa , 3.78 sgpa, and a 3.89 bcp. Anything could be done!
 
Not sure why you posted when you have all A's but one.

If I can get interviewed with a 2.80, 2.94, and 2.94 gpa my first THREE quarters of college, I think you'll be alright. I will say that biology is probably the most important class on that list though.
 
OP, you're fine. Now you should know what it takes. No excuses. It only gets harder.
 
You're only taking 4 classes? I thought recommendation is taking 5 which is a full course load. Correct me if I am wrong!
 
Wow.. a 3.6? There is no way you are getting in. Just quit now
 
I would highly recommend talking to your state school, if you have one. Find out whether or not they have an early admission program that you can apply to. You're pretty early in the game to be deciding on Dental school and you have a good shot at it. I know I only decided late in my junior year.

Also you should be out getting dental experience establish some good connections with dentists in your area. Try to see all the specialties and then focus in on one dentist who you really hit it off with (he will be your LoR when the time comes) Also this helps you decide if you really want this as a career. Ask yourself if you could this over and over again for the next 40+ years.

Second you should start doing a bit of community service find something you enjoy and can talk about. I helped teach swimming at the YMCA and helped at an animal hospital. These don't need to be in the Dental field but something you are passionate about and can talk about.

Take your DAT after you have taken O-chem if possible and be sure to study hard for at least 2-3 months.

Finally do something fun in college take that silly pottery class everyone says is easy or that in-depth critical film class. Don't be afraid to take things other than science classes. Study hard and you will do just fine. Go out have fun and meet that girl. Join a club you enjoy. I'd recommend a quire or a chorale, you meet a lot of pretty women and expand your social circle immensely. You should enjoy your undergraduate days because Dental School will be exponentially more time consuming, frustrating, and fulfilling.
 
You should switch career paths a C in bio means you are finished. Just give up man.
 
Well, looks like I was completely wrong about my Bio grade, did much better on the final than I thought and got a B in the class!

cumulative GPA of 3.77 I think! Got a ton more work to do though, only first semester 🙁

OP annoys me. His post makes it look like he's fishing for compliments. And besides, you've done ONE semester. What answers are you looking for? That you're a godsend to the dental community and everyone's gonna accept you based on your short academic record?

lol agreed which is why I've been trolling him. He should know that it is Way too early to ask anything.

No, he was looking for advice from people like you who have been where he is trying to get to tell him if he is on the right track. I am on the same page as OP because when I saw my grades for this semester I wanted to share them and see if I am on track as well. Unlike OP I didn't know what I wanted to go to college for and screwed up my first semester. This is my first semester actually knowing my goal and I gotta tell you it feels great. Don't knock a student for seeking guidance. Don't forget where you started.

You are doing great. You have a clear vision of your goal and you know what you need to do to get there. You need to study a little harder in bio but you are on track. I suggest finding out if your school offers a pre-health or pre-professions counselor. They won't make you feel stupid for making sure your on the right track.

As for you Jaesango...I hope when you were in your interviews (if you have even gotten to that point yet) you didn't tell your interviewer you enjoy helping people, because you come off as a huge d-bag...

To counter your poor attempt at dissing me, I went to 5 pre-december interviews and received 5 acceptances on dec 2nd. To "check" whether you are on the right track or not, you can simply search thousands of the other "chance me" threads by using google. It's not that hard, really.

Also, here's something you must've overlooked.

If he was truly looking for advice, he wouldn't have been so quick to assume they were sarcasm. Instead, he would have asked, "why?" or, "which part of my insignificantly short academic career makes you say that?"

If you are serious, you might consider updating your situation after every quiz/test/whatnot.
 
My point is don't bother with sdn because people get cyberballs and want to make you feel stupid and say things they would not normally say in person. Makes me sick
