Drexel decision time

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
That's great! I interviewed on 1/12- so hopefully between now and March, I'll be accepted.........

WHYADOCTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A friggin huge congrats man! You definitely deserve it!!!!! You will make a great classmate and an awesome Doctor.

Ualilmissy: a big congrats to you too! I don't know you as well, but I am always thriled to meet my new Drexel Classmates!!!! Congrats!!!!

hey congrats ualilmissy!!!! i don't know if you remember but you helped me out with the information packet (you e-mailed it to me!). thanks for your help and hopefully i will see you at Drexel as a member of the class of 2011!!!!🙂 and thank you for everyone else for your support throughout...i am still in a shock-like state...can't believe i will be a doctor!

Congrats to you too whyadoctor!!! Of course I remember talking to you when we got our interviews. This is my first acceptance so more than likely I will see you at Drexel😀

Are there any ones with an acceptance who were interviewed by a female faculty? I think female interviewers tend to be much more critical and thus affecting a candidate's acceptance. If so, this is not fair. Is this observation/experience true?

I don't think this is true. I had a female interviewer and she was great.

Congrats whyadoctor and ualilmissy. That was a quick turn around for you ualilmissy, they must have really liked you. I had a female faculty interviewer also and she was great. But I haven't been accepted yet, so we will see.
Congrats again to you two!

This is a really presumptuous/provocative suggestion. But to answer your question directly, I was accepted at Drexel after interviews with female faculty and student interviewers. Both were exceptionally nice and I enjoyed talking with them.

Congrats to those newly accepted! I'm sending in an update letter either today or tomorrow 🙂 -- The final hoorah! Hopefully this does the trick, I'd love to be your fellow classmate next year 👍

Do you like Drexel more than NYMC? I don't know what to think about this one. I look at them pretty equally, although I like Drexel's choice of curriculum, use of technology, and the facilities must be pretty new since they were building a gym/student center last year. but idk if i would have chosen nymc anyway...hmmm

Finally! My link went away, it should be soon now, based on others experiences. Crossing my fingers.

Watsup CP?? It was a really hard choice (lol, i'm speaking as if I actually have the choice to make right now...) but after lotsa thinking I'd go for Drexel over NYMC. Here's what I like about Drexel:

1) As far as reputation goes, I think Drexel's got a slight up on NYMC. This ofcourse is not the deciding factor, though

2) Curriculum. Both IFM & PIL are more clinically relevant than NYMC's curriculum. I was really sold on PIL, although I'm having second thoughts now. I think I'd like either of these curriculums better than just basics sciences though, coming from an engineering background.

3) Drexel boasts it's orthopedic training. They matched 14/yr in the last 2 years into the program while NYMC matched 8. (I know there are more students at Drexel, but the percentages are still higher. ALSO, I know I shouldn't base solely on 1 specialty but that's where I'm leaning right now and it's good to know they have a strong program for that. Plus they matched well for other specialties as well. This is not to say that NYMC's matchlist isn't awesome too)

4) Huge(r) class size. 255 students per class = maybe better social environment. PLUS since they split the 2 curriculums it won't even be that packed in classes.

5) Philadelphia! I've lived in big cities all my life and would love to experience a new one.

7) I like both the idea of student housing (NYMC) and my own apartment (I forgot if Drexel has student housing but I think most students live off). Coming right outta college, I'm used to a more dormy feel of NYMC, but I think it's about time I try something new and live off.

So yeah, I'd be perfectly happy with NYMC, but I think I'd be better off at Drexel. My sister just went thru the residency process and she says that Drexel is probably the better place for me too.

As far as facilities go, I'd have to give it to NYMC -- their children's hospital and anatomy lab are simply gorgeous. I do, however, like the idea that Drexel's gym is right in the main building 👍.

Anyhow, I'll keep you updated on how it turns out! Where will you be goin'?? I forgot what other schools accepted you.

it's been 14 weeks and haven't heard anything. I figured that was just how it goes for medical school decisions until reading this forum. i feel they are holding my app to see more interviewees before accepting me. i'd hate to call and seem annoying.

At 14 weeks, I would definitely give them a call. You never know, maybe they sent something and it got lost in the mail. It happens.

So- there are some posts about the interview link disappearing before a decision is sent... I was only interviewed a few weeks ago, but my link is gone. Anyone want to offer a translation?

I REALIZE THIS IS A STUPID QUESTION AND THAT I AM CRAZY!!!

😛

Hi everyone!!
I just wanted to join this thread! Just had my interview at Drexel last week and I really liked the school. Good luck to everyone who's waiting for their decision! :luck: :luck: :luck:

I just got mine too! I interviewed on Jan 5th and the letter is dated Jan 23rd🙂

Hey I interviewed on Jan 5th too!!! Yet i haven't heard anything yet 😕 . DId your interview link disappear? Do you know anyone in our interview group receiving a decision as well? I'm so anxious! Hehehe. And CONGRATS!

My link disappeared about a week and a half before I got the letter in the mail. I don't know if anyone else who interviewed on that day recieved a decision yet. I know that decision time was taking about 6-8 weeks so I think I just got lucky. Good luck!:luck:

For everyone that we have information from so far, that link dissappearing means that you will get your letter in about 10 days (mine took 14, but there were holidays messing up the processesing). If what I suspect is true, the decision has now been made and the office will process the paperwork and mail out a letter to you next week.

I am not sure why they take the trouble to modify everyone's link display when they are reviewed, but perhaps it is a symptom of how the application tracking system follows your app. Maybe they click a box that says a decision has been made, but instead of something appearing on the decision page, it takes off the view interview link instead. It would be funny if it's just an unintended glitch in the system. But its valuable to us nonetheless!

Good luck!!!

hey tandski...good luck!!! we are all rooting for you. i think we were there on the same interview day (Haemulon was there too). and good luck to everyone else awaiting their decision :luck:

Do any of you also see a change in your Application Summary change? After my name, address and phone number this is what I have under Application Data but in that chart:

Application Data
Admission Term: Fall Semester 07-08
Admission Type: New Student

Application Preference: Not entered
Application Status: Complete
Current Program
Doctor of Medicine
Level: Medicine
Program: Doctor of Medicine
Catalog Term: Fall Semester 07-08

College: College of Medicine
Campus: Queen Lane
Major and Department: Medicine, Integrated Curriculum
Concentration: Intdept. Foundations of Med.

Does everybody else see this? Or just those that are accepted? What about those that have been rejected if you're willing to let us know?

I interviewed 1/9 and have been out of the country since then until Sun 1/28. I checked Drexel 1/30 after reading about the interview link disappearing and indeed mine was not there.

I'm anxiuos to know the news cuz I may have to fly out for another interview to a school that I wouldn't attend if I was accepted at Drexel. 😳 🙄

Thanks for any insights! :luck:

hey kc222.... i think that everyone gets that information...but so far the link disappearing has been good news (as far as i know). so good luck!

Everyone sees this screen on the decision screen. It actually stays the same even after your decision is rendered, at least for a while (mine hasn't changed yet even though I received my decision a couple weeks ago).

I hope it's good news but for me I'm still waiting.(Oh well, any day and keeping my fingers crossed.)

Oh on the application status page if I remember correctly.

The one that has the link "To View Your Decision Click Here ", it then resizes your window and always says "Decision Not Available."??? 😕

Or maybe one of these?...
My Application Website
Application Menu
Application Status
Application Decision Popup Page

So if I'm remembering correctly it was right on the page you go to when you click "View status" and re-enter your info.

Thanks Dave_D! 🙂

Yeah, I don't see a link there, just my application and an "Application Preference" of "Not Entered". Not sure what that means; maybe it means they haven't gotten to even reading it at this stage.

I hope it's good news but for me I'm still waiting.(Oh well, any day and keeping my fingers crossed.)

Crud, I got a letter today and it's a waitlist. Oh well, I guess since I haven't been eliminated yet there's still hope.

Hey Dave, fellow Masshole here and fellow waitlistee. Don't worry all hope is not lost. Best of luck to you. I know the WL feeling sucks.

interviewed early december, and found out late last week

hey guys I interviewed on dec.4 and still have not heard. fyi: i still have schedule an interview link. I called the admissions office. They said a bunch of letters out last week so should be getting mail anytime now. i asked if he knew if a decision has been made on my application and he said he can't tell from the system. Don;t know what that but most likely seems like i won't be getting any news soon. lemme know what u guys think.

hey spirin, when i called the admissions office once they told me the same thing without them letting me provide some ID number or name. he just said its been mailed out and you should be getting it soon. I called back after three days and insisted that the guy take my amcas number and provide me direct info on my file. he did that and told me my file was still in committee and that a decision would be mailed out the week later. so dont be too gullible with them

A bump for my friends that are waiting. Hopefully that interview link will disappear this week for you tandski!

Thanks Haemulon, the link has gone away so I hope to hear GOOD news very soon. Praying for a large envelope😀

I interviewed the first week of November and my link is still there and I have not heard anything from them! 🙁

can u tell me what u're stats were. i was interviewed on Dec. 4 and still no word.

hey 'spirin,

i'm sorry i took so long to reply, haven't checked in in a while. so, like i said a while back, it took about a month to hear that i was accepted after my interview on dec. 12th. wasnt sure what you meant by "stats" but here goes.

so, academically: i was a bio major/ philosophy minor with a 3.65 overall and a 3.7 bcpm. 30 on the april mcat. outside of academics had alot of clinical exposure (gave me great letters of rec.) from specialty internships, alot of volunteer stuff, and not really any research of my own.

i think what might have helped was that i am was a philosophy minor, and talked about (in my interviews) that i was very interested in the humanities scholar distinction they offer, and also, the fact that community service is mandatory for their first year students -which was something that i really liked, and this was further supported by all my past service work.

anyway, hope thats helps, and that you hear from them soon - best of luck!

also, Haemulon, whyadoctor and ualilmissy - still waiting to hear back from some other schools but, looks like i'll probably see you all in philly - congratulations

hey AnthonyNY...congrats to you too!..i'm also waiting for 2 schools, but most likely i will pick drexel. i can't wait to finish school and start medical school!
