Do you like Drexel more than NYMC? I don't know what to think about this one. I look at them pretty equally, although I like Drexel's choice of curriculum, use of technology, and the facilities must be pretty new since they were building a gym/student center last year. but idk if i would have chosen nymc anyway...hmmm
Watsup CP?? It was a really hard choice (lol, i'm speaking as if I actually have the choice to make right now...) but after lotsa thinking I'd go for Drexel over NYMC. Here's what I like about Drexel:
1) As far as reputation goes, I think Drexel's got a
slight up on NYMC. This ofcourse is not the deciding factor, though
2) Curriculum. Both IFM & PIL are more clinically relevant than NYMC's curriculum. I was really sold on PIL, although I'm having second thoughts now. I think I'd like either of these curriculums better than just basics sciences though, coming from an engineering background.
3) Drexel boasts it's orthopedic training. They matched 14/yr in the last 2 years into the program while NYMC matched 8. (I know there are more students at Drexel, but the percentages are still higher. ALSO, I know I shouldn't base solely on 1 specialty but that's where I'm leaning right now and it's good to know they have a strong program for that. Plus they matched well for other specialties as well. This is not to say that NYMC's matchlist isn't awesome too)
4) Huge(r) class size. 255 students per class = maybe better social environment. PLUS since they split the 2 curriculums it won't even be that packed in classes.
5) Philadelphia! I've lived in big cities all my life and would love to experience a new one.
7) I like both the idea of student housing (NYMC) and my own apartment (I forgot if Drexel has student housing but I think most students live off). Coming right outta college, I'm used to a more dormy feel of NYMC, but I think it's about time I try something new and live off.
So yeah, I'd be perfectly happy with NYMC, but I think I'd be better off at Drexel. My sister just went thru the residency process and she says that Drexel is probably the better place for me too.
As far as facilities go, I'd have to give it to NYMC -- their children's hospital and anatomy lab are simply gorgeous. I do, however, like the idea that Drexel's gym is right in the main building
👍.
Anyhow, I'll keep you updated on how it turns out! Where will you be goin'?? I forgot what other schools accepted you.
