actually, if i recall correctly, it's much higher than that at around 50%. I believe the US News site said ~800 accepted out of ~1500 applicants.

Really? I didnt see the USNews but I would love to believe your numbers are right. 50% isnt too shabby.

Thanks! 722 enrolled? Does that mean 722 out of 774 interviewd are accepted?

No, the enrollment is total enrollment (i.e. all 4 years MS1-MS4)

oh
thanks! MSAR doesn't give the number of accepted?

I have a question for you guys...

when would it be too late to book a flight/hotel for Vermont. I have an interview scheduled there next thursday morning (im supposed to fly out next wednesday) and I still did not book anything because Im waiting for Drexel. At this point, I would go to Drexel over U. Vermont. Is waiting until next Monday too late to book my flight? I dont fly much, so I dont know how easy it is to get flights last minute.

Thanks everyone!

er, doh, i meant ~1500 interviewees but I guess you understood what i meant... here's the actual numbers from US News:

Applied Interviewed Accepted Enrolled
Total: 7,982 1,729 884 226
In-state: 901 344 240 74
Out-of-state: 7,081 1,385 644 152

...So it was actually 1729 interviewed and 884 accepted last year for drexel.

Two considerations: 1) money, 2) security checks. If you're willing to spend as much money as it takes, and you're willing to get to the airport extra early to undergo additional security checks, you will be able to get a ticket on Monday. But if either of those is a problem, I"d suggest getting a ticket ASAP.

What I'd actually suggest is getting in touch with Dr. Hanau and explaining your situation. Just tell her that you want to go to Drexel over Vermont so you'd rather not have to fly to Vermont, you haven't booked a ticket, and is there any indication of when you can find out what the admissions decision was. She'll at least be nice, even if she can't give you the info you want, so it can't hurt.

good luck 👍

(btw, nothing in the mail today except a solicitation from American University of Antigua College of Medicine  )

Thanks Tigress. Im kind of really nervous to contact Dr. Hanau about this. Im sure many people are in my situation and I doubt med schools really care. Do you think that if I do purchase a plane ticket I can get a refund? Or is that out of the question too?

It depends on how you buy the ticket. Almost all online tickets are nonrefundable. But I think if you go through a travel agent or through the airline by calling them (maybe?) you can get refundable tickets? 😕

Like I said, Dr. Hanau might not be able to help you, but she would at least listen and be nice about it. She doesn't seem like the type of person who would get upset with you just because you ask her about this. But I would be nervous to call her too. In the end I'd probably do it, and I think it's a good option.

As a person who's recently had to cancel two plane tickets, I can say that it depends. If you buy a full priced ticket (which you might be stuck with now since it's so last minute -- lots of $$$), you can get a full refund. If you buy a regular ticket like what you usually find on travelocity of whatever, it's usually non-refundable. However, all hope is not lost -- you can still cancel the tickets and get a credit at the airline for the ticket cost, but you have to pay something like $80 whenever you try to use the credit. I think the credit usually also has to be used within the year.

So, if I were you, I'd see about booking a ticket now. Most likely, you'll have multiple needs to fly again within the year, so you'll only be out the $80.

Thanks tigress and exlawgrrl for your suggestions! Do you think that an e-mail would be ok to Dr. Hanau instead of a phone call? I would have booked my ticket way in advance (since I knew about this interview for some time) but I was really hoping to hear something from Drexel soon. Since that may not happen, I am totally stuck right now. 🙁

I know that if you buy through an online site like expedia, there is a ticket protection option that you can buy for something like $20. You have to select that option prior to purchasing the ticket. I think you can then cancel the ticket and get a full refund if you don't use it. I would still read the fine print as it should remain pretty clear to everyone that reads this forum that I tend to be incorrect about almost everything. Good luck.

i actually feel like i'm in the same situation w/ my GW interview on Dec. 9, but i think Drexel should get back to me way before that....seriously, it'll save me about 500 dollars....i can get a new xbox and games w/ that!...or Christmas presents for ppl....or an xbox as a present to myself 🙂

Thanks guys. Well I bit the bullet and e-mailed her. I figure, my decision is probably already made, so she cant go back and reject me if she doesnt like my note. Right? :scared:

Haha, and she can't go back and accept you if she really likes your email.

Or just use the $500 and get a decent hooker.

lol

I was talking to a 4th year at Jefferson this evening. He actually said to me (in front of my husband!) something like, "Why wouldn't you go to Jefferson? Obviously you wouldn't want to go to Drexel." It wasn't exactly that, but close, and that was his meaning. After the fact it occurred to me that I should have said, "Well, I was thinking of Penn actually." Not because I will have that choice, but because he just seemed so elitist about his school. An obvious reason is because I might actually be happier at Drexel than at Jefferson! I mean, I really don't know at this point, but I love Drexel in a lot of ways, so it's not like it would immediately not be considered because I have another acceptance!

Then I found out that he's applying for surgery. So I guess it figures

(that was a joke, please don't bite me)

plus, you have the advantage of someone who has been through the same exact courses and took the same exact exams that you will. I feel that is a HUGE plus!

So I finally called a few schools today because I've been complete since the end of august ~ beginning of september, and I've only heard from 3 schools. I called Drexel because tigress scared the crap out of me about losing an interview invite in the mail. especially since I never got a complete postcard in the mail. I was actually hoping to find out that indeed, my interview was lost in the mail, and then i'd have an awesome tale to tell. But alas, my application process is not that interesting. So the guy told me that my file was still being reviewed and gave me the usual yada yada about being overwhelmed with applications. I asked whether files were reviewed in the order that they were complete, and he said yes. ARGH. Why would they outright lie to me. I know for a fact that there are plenty of people who didn't even turn in their drexel apps until mid to late september and have already gotten interviews. Do I really just suck that much? At this point, I'd rather start getting some rejections than to keep waiting for nothing. (GW is another school that's been pissing me off. Haven't heard ANYTHING from them- not even a "hold email")

sorry, that was my fault. velocypedalist is my boyfriend, and he keeps using my computer, so I accidentally post things when his profile's signed on. And then i try to delete it but I don't know how. And i'd leave the posting under his name, but then keen observers like you will notice that he's 1/4 MD, which would make his post nonsensical. So the compromise is to post a "." and then repost my comments as me.

aw, ahumdinger, I didn't mean to scare the crap out of you! I hope everybody here stays regular in spite of the application process.

okay, maybe I'm the only one who thinks that's funny
btw, I am sorry. I didn't mean to scare people. I guess my point is that if you don't hear anything in a reasonable amount of time you may as well call the school.

Hey everybody. I just received an invite and I was wondering if anyone could give me a hotel recommendation. I will be driving up if that matters. As always, cheaper is better. Thanks in advance.

I also have an interview this friday...waited till the last minute to book a hotel because I thought I would be staying with a friend. anyway, the wyndham at franklin plaza is only $109...decent place for a good price and not too far from the school. see you on friday.

i went to best western center city...not a bad price (i forgot it though), nice hotel, 10 minute drive to the school w/o getting lost?

I just got a call from my husband who's at home studying to tell me that I got a letter from Drexel in the mail today. I got in! 😍

edit: He said it was in a big envelope, unlike when he was accepted a few years back.

Yay!!!!!

I don't know why, but I keep checking this forum to see what is going on, despite withdrawing from the drexel waitlist- so much suspense. I was pulling for you Tigress!! And if Beponychick doesnt get in, I'm going to go over there and smack some people around.

thanks! beponychick HAS to get in!
people who have checked their mail and didn't get anything, I might have gotten it earlier because I live really close to the school. So I suspect people will get more letters in the next few days!!

good luck 🙂

Way to go, Tigress! Um, so can you withdraw from all the other schools you're applying to now? Every little bit you can do to help me get into a school helps....
Seriously, congratulations!

Thanks guys!!! I have butterflies in my tummy! I dont know, I dont have a good feeling about this.... :scared:

congrats!!!! and thanks for putting my heart and stomach in my throat 😛

I'm definitely rooting for the sdn bachelor of the year! 🙂

Congrats Tigress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am really happy for you!!! Hopefully I get to join you in the big envelope receiving situation 🙂

I just called home. No big (or small) envelope for me today... Thats actually good. Im not having a good day, so it would definitely be a rejection if I received it today. Im superstitious like that! 😀

congratulations tigress, that is really good news! so i guess you will got to drexel now, since your husband is there and you liked the school anyways. maybe you'll get a big financial package to go along with your acceptance. 🙂

i hope i get an interview there~

Congradulations Tigress. Drexel's a good school. Have fun!

I still don't understand why I haven't heard from them yet. This is starting to get ridiculous.
