Drexel Rejection part 01

Okay, so I wanted to at least try to reduce some anxiety here. My husband was leaving class late this afternoon and saw somebody from admissions in the hall talking to another person. He got in a convo with the other person and then the admissions person, and it came up that my acceptance letter had come today. Turns out it was mailed YESTERDAY (I just checked the postmark and confirmed this). Which means I just got it today because I live so close, and other people should get letters soon too, assuming they were sent out in a big batch.

I do have to complain, though, that the $100 deposit has to be a money order again. Seriously, once they accept people can't they just trust us to write a check? lol

And I'm glad I'm not interested in PIL. That silly PIL "application" (basically anybody can do it, so why do they even bother?) looks really annoying.

I just got a call from my husband who's at home studying to tell me that I got a letter from Drexel in the mail today. I got in! 😍

edit: He said it was in a big envelope, unlike when he was accepted a few years back.

Congrats Tigress and everyone else that got in. I have my interview first week of december. I looked through their website saw some pics of their activities - looks like a nice cohesive fun loving group of student.

and for your PIL comment...i felt as if they had sold me on it, and then they let us try it out at the UConn interview....let's just say my "web" would consist of 2 - 3 connections.....i'm really not a PIL type of person as I would rather straight out study to learn things....also not fond of going to research it myself...pfffttt...who does that anyway...

now that i've wasted everyone's time, i hope i still get to make this decision

and just to add onto my comments....i'm not saying PIL is bad or anything. when they gave the presentation at Drexel, they had sold me on it, but i don't think i personally would thrive in that type of environment...i prefer rainforest, high in the canopy

Yeah, the PIL students I've spoken to have raved about it. Personally I know it's not for me. I'm really a lecture learner through and through. The IFM curriculum does incorporate small group sessions and such, so it's not ENTIRELY lecture-based. In either case the curriculum is awesome.

Now I just wish I could find out more about the clinical education. I work in the Drexel neurology clinic, so I think I'll just sit down with some of the med students rotating there and ask them about it!

oh yeah, and like I said before, it was postmarked yesterday...so y'all will be hearing!

were you one of the ones they said they sent out the letters a while ago? Cause I called on Friday and they told me the committee didn't meet last week and they my file is not under review yet, although I interviewed on 9-28.

Yeah, my husband does that sometimes. He picks which lectures to go to and which not to. See, the thing is, he watches the lectures at 1.5x or 2x speed. I can't understand them well that way, but I think he's gotten used to it. That way he can get through a 1 hour lecture in 30 minutes! 😱

edit: The online lectures are a huge plus for me, since I hope to have kids during med school. It's possible to only go in for labs and tests if you really stay on top of things and make sure to study and watch the lectures at home. Actually my student interviewer told me (I don't remember how it came up) that there is a 2nd year who lives with his family in Harrisburg and only comes to school for tests and major labs. He even had a special agreement to not come to some of the microanatomy (histology) labs. Interesting. I feel like Drexel is very accommodating to their students. They just want them to learn medicine and do well.

I don't know. I called a bit ago and the woman said a decision had been made and they'd send the letter. I think that was week before last at the end of the week. And then the letter was postmarked 10/31.

Yeah, I heard about the Harrisburg guy too! very awesome.. i was thinking about having kids sometime in med school too.... i dont want to be an old mommy! 🙂 🙂

a week ago, i emailed them regarding my status since i hadn't heard from them and this is what i got back:

"Your file is complete and has been reviewed. A decision has not been made on your file. Thank you."

I am already in two schools (temple and EVMS) so i won't be totally crushed if they waitlist or reject me...but i just want to know.

I think my application will be reviewed the next round...

What time did they tell you to arrive? Did everyone get there at the same time or not? Anyone stay with a student host?

I got my interview letter 1st week of Oct. When I called to schedule, they had some openings in late Nov but I chose Dec as that worked better for me. I doubt it is still the case but I would call soon to find out.

Really? Oh yikes. I e-mailed her once before (just sent her a thank you note) and actually asked questions in my second email and did not get a response. Maybe she is away or something. She did give me her card and said to contact her with questions... oh well.
