I just got back from a visit to Philly--there was a lot of rain over New Year's weekend, but it wasn't actually that cold, definitely not freezing, probably high 30's to 40's. Well I guess it depends where you are coming from if you consider that freezing or not! I'd bring an umbrella just in case, but I doubt you'd need an extra heavy sweater or coat. Good luck on the interview!

Keep on calling them every week. I know CP and I called (not emailed) them after they told us our file would be reviewed. The committee meets on Thursdays so try calling on Fridays. I dont think they get pissed off... at least no one got pissed off at me for calling every week! good luck!!!

Ok I called today...and apparently "there has been no further movement" on my file. Whatever that means. Let's see, time to move on to week 14 and counting... 😡

Anyone else hear any good or bad news from Drexel? Medstylee I took your advice but haven't heard anything back yet. Crossing my fingers :luck:

Off topic but I have a reuqest to any and all of youse who interviewed at Drexel. Can you just give me a rough idea of what the interview is like there...i.e. stress, non-stress, lots of hypothetical ethics questions, close scrutiny of abominable grades, BDSM and nipple clamps..etc..etc. Any hotel recommendations?

My POV:
I read almost all of the 260+ feedbacks on the SDN and so far the student interview seems laid back and it seems that you have to go to the hospital (25 min ride) in order to do the faculty interview.

It seems painless enough but I am still ****ting bricks. Anyone care to add to this?

That's basically it. I guess it depends on who you have for your interview, but if you have Dr. Hanau, she is very laid back and hardly asks you any difficult questions. Just know your ethics, a bit on policy, be able to justify bad grades, and most of all BE CONFIDENT! I think that is key. Even if you have bad grades or scores, if you come across that you are sure of yourself (not cocky) than you will be fine. And also Rayhan, you are such a funny guy! Crack some jokes (in good taste though)... make them laugh. They will love you!!!! Good luck!!!!

Thanks for the replies....my mind is a little bit at ease.

Strangely, I had a dream last night where I had an interviewer who was an old lady. And the interview was taking place inside a tank!!! She asked me about my grades and reasons for its crappiness. She didn't buy any of my reasons and kept saying "I don't agree with your assessment". And then when leaving she said, good luck at other schools and while coming out of the tank, my belt malfunctioned and I dropped my pants and I went commando!!! 😱

ahahahahahahahaha. gosh.

rayhan you should really not stress out too much. i know exactly how you feel cause it was my first interview and i was anxious too. the interview i had there last week was very low-stress. there were about 12 applicants there and everybody came out saying their interviews were easy and fine.

the only negative thing i can think about is that you can't really have a good idea of what they are really thinking of you as a candidate for their school, for you to think you may be accepted or not. since EVERYBODY thinks they had an excellent interview.

i would recommend the holiday inn on city line. priceline it to get the best rate! they were very familiar with drexel med applicants there.

good luck rayhan!!

Thanks for the encouragment.

I'll be taking a class, "reading facial expressions 101". So far, I am up to determining nausea and disgust. Hopefully, I'll be seeing none of that during the interview.

Best of luck to you....here's to a large envelope.

My interviews were non-stress, sort of. My student interviewer never showed up so they had to grab a different student who had come in early to interview me. That went fine. She was nice and apologetic of the confusion. The faculty interview was just down the hall (NOT at the hospital) and I was late getting there since my student interview began 15 minutes late. The faculty interviewer made a comment about me being late but I explained it. But then he ended the interview after 10 minutes (I was 5 minutes late and then he stopped 15 minutes early!) only giving me a chance to ask like one question. I thought I was done for but actually got an acceptance a month later. All of the students I met there were very friendly and outgoing.
I just interviewed there today. I liked the school, but I found it hard to really gauge how my interview went. My interviewer wasn't a clinician and didn't seem at all interested in my work. All she wanted to do was grill me on my rather circuitous academic career for 45 minutes. Lunch was nice and I had good conversation with the student interviewer.

This was my fifth interview and I felt like I was just going through the motions at this point. Hopefully, my anxiety will be put to rest in the next couple of weeks.

I was told by a member of the adcom that my file was being review last Thursday... no word yet on the outcome.. but I'm pretty sure that it won't be good.

<I know pessimism gets you nowhere... but at the same time I don't think optimism will be doing me any favors either>

well, i finally got my response today - waitlisted. i'm really pissed off. the apparent apathy of my interviewer, the fact that s/he didn't seem to know anything about medicine, and the fact that i had to wait for 3 months for one person to review my application really makes me feel like drexel doesn't give a damn about my application. i think i might be at the pinnacle of my frustration with this process at this moment. 👎

just wanted to remark on something i found funny about my waitlist letter.

a) it says "The Medical Student Admissions Committee of Drexel University College of Medicine has reviewed your application following your recent interview." ha - what a joke. recent = 3 months???

b) then they go on to ask that i indicate my desire to remain on the waitlist as soon as possible.

oh the irony, huh?

anyway, i hope you guys still waiting don't have to go through the hellish wait that i had to endure. best of luck. drexel really is a good school, they just don't seem to have the adequate resources to deal with the volume of applications they get.

Sorry you guys had such a long wait. Maybe I'll hit you up for a club membership in like June or something. Drexel told me maybe I'd hear back at the end of February, but from other people's experiences, it sounds like that might actually mean March or April. On the plus side, they did tell me that in past years lots of people got off the waitlist. Last year they got well into the second third of the waitlist groups, so good luck! :luck:

does taking forever to review equate a waitlist? and if so, what is the correlation between the time it takes to even LOOK at your application after interview and your number on the waitlist? i'm being sarcastic...

does taking forever to review = waitlist?

if so, what is the correlation between:
1) the time it takes to even look at your application after an interview with no chemistry between your self and your interviewer and
2) your number on the waitlist? i'm being sarcastic...

really?? that sounds hopeful! i was just reading the drexel waitlist thread from last year, and it seemed like they traditionally don't take many people from the list and that the movement doesn't start till really late (like late june or july). anyway, thanks for sharing.

hey sorry to hear that. well i'm going on week 15 with "no further movement'" guess im gonna be looking at a waitlist 🙁

i really don't think the long wait correlates with waitlist or rejection. i know in my case, things took so long because one of my application reviewers had been really tardy in returning my application review. beponychick waited a very long time for a response and she was accepted, so don't lose hope. best of luck.

Medstylee, may I ask who interviewed you at Drexel? Your interview experience kinda sounds like mine. I had a "non-clinician" interviewer too, and it made things difficult when I wanted to talk about my research in venous thromboembolism therapy. She was like, "huh?" We ended up talking about what primary school she was going to send her kids to instead.

Hi medstylee,

Im so sorry to hear about your waitlist. I totally agree that waiting this long for a waitlist spot is totally crazy. I thought mine and CPs wait was the longest... around 11 weeks or so, but I hear people are topping that now... But I guess yes, the a long wait does not necessarily mean a waitlist or rejection. Argh, i hope you get in off the waitlist.. It would be so fun to have you as a classmate... have you gotten any other acceptances to soften the blow?

hey beyponychick, thanks for the condolences. i'll certainly be taking my spot on the waitlist. no acceptances yet, but i'm also waitlisted at gw and i'm waiting to hear at georgetown (any day now) and nymc and i'm waiting to interview at suny upstate (in march). so, i still have several chances. keep your fingers crossed for me!

I would start a new thread but since it's about Drexel, I don't want to sin against nature and start a new Drexel thread. My interview is this Saturday and does anyone have any last minure pointers, tips, sacrificial ideas? Anyone know if there is a TV to catch up on the morning cartoons? Also, I am curious, does it take longer to hear back if you interview at the hospital as opposed to the school? And finally what is the mystery meat in hot dogs?

RayhanS1282, no tips other than enjoy yourself. I didn't know they do Saturday interviews. I don't think it takes longer to hear if you interview at the hospital. It did take a while for me, but I doubt that's why. The faculty there are basically the same as the faculty at the school building, anyway.

good luck :luck:
Some people should come chat on the Drexel class thread in allo. Even if you haven't decided to go there. We can debate the relative merits of Drexel 🙂

Hey, Rayhan, I am interviewuing at Drexel this Saturday too 😀

Tigress,

As usual thanks for the reply. I wanted to seem like I was on to something with the turn around time in the school vs. clinic...conduct my first research. Yeah, I thought it was strange to interview on a Saturday...I hope the interviewer doesn't get pissed and penalize me for this. I'd get upset too if I had to miss my Saturday morning cartoons.

Dr. Kitty,

Come say Hi, I'll be the big dude in a cheap suit, sweating profusely and depending on how nervous I am....in soiled pants (which is inevitable).

   You will do fine. According to SDN interview feedback, Drexel interviews seem very laid back for the most part. The admissions lady told me that Saturday interview days are shorter, and we might finish by 12 in the afternoon. Not sure how that's possible, unless we miss some parts of the presentation. She also told me that February interviews are reserved for special program students, not for those applying for MD through regular route. Anyway, best of luck to all of us :luck: :luck:

I was just told via a status update that a decision has been made and a letter has been mailed. Since I know drexel invites via email, I am rejected. 🙁

Drexel sends both interview invitations and admissions decisions through regular mail!!! So you still have a chance 🙂 :luck: :luck:

ArmyDoc,

Drexel invites are sent by snail mail and only after you schedule a date you get an e-mail confirming the date of the interview. So, don't drink the bottle of anti-freeze yet.

alright so we are in the running for the longest wait EVER. did they give you any hint as to WHY it's taking so long? I couldn't get any info out of them.

GOOD LUCK RAYHAN!!

drexel interviews are known to be easy and laid back. everybody was very nice there, starting from the security officer at the reception desk.

there is no tv to catch up on cartoons, unfortunately. and don't pipe up during presentations and offer idiotic comments like one girl i interviewed with. your interview day should be over early in the afternoon, so if you have time, go see the "body worlds" exhibit at the franklin institute. you can get same day tickets easy!

:luck: :luck: :luck:

Thanks for the advice Bubble. I definitely won't ask anything other than "where's the bathroom?" and "Can I touch it?"

And I'll probably go see the Body Worlds just to cheer myself up. Looking at these folks, suddenly my life seems pretty lively. 😛

I just wanted to say how happy I am that the thread I started months ago to lament my rejection from Drexel has become one of the most popular on SDN!

Good time to send in an updated activities letter:

The technical significance: Started Drexel Rejection Thread (23 pages, 794 posts)
The symbolic signficance: It is a sin to start any new threads or make any new posts regarding Drexel anywhere else but this thread.

😀

good luck to you Rayhan! just relax, my drexel interviewer talked the whole time and i had an acceptance to show for it (and for those of you waitlisted, i've withdrawn, so best of luck!). and say what's up to the security guard at the front desk, he's super cool!

Best thread evar! If only Drexel wasn't so expensive and didn't have a terrible 3rd year system 🙁

I'm just curious -- why do you think Drexel has a terrible 3rd year system? I'm not saying it doesn't, I'd just like to know your thoughts. Actually most of the students seem pretty happy with it, and there are a lot of hospitals to choose from. My husband is in the process of setting up his rotations right now, actualy. But truthfully, this is the one thing really holding me back from saying I'll go to Drexel (well, that and money; but it's not more expensive than other private schools -- they're basically all the same).

I have a question. I sent in my secondary at the end of August and my letters were sent in by September. I never got a complete notice or a hold notice or anything. I sent an email asking about my status over a month ago and never got a response. So I just called the adm. office to see what's going on and the woman said she was downloading my letters now and sending my app. in for review. Does this make sense? If everything has been there for months, why wouldn't it have already been reviewed?
