Currently in the first semester of a two year master's of anatomy program and not doing well (failing my 8 credit hour class, will need to retake next fall). I think it's because I'm burned out, so I'm debating dropping out of my master's program. I was wondering if there was a way for medical or osteopathic schools to ever know I attempted a master's and if so what they would think about me needing to take a year or two off.

you have to report all schools you attended, especially if it generates a transcript. If you drop out you better have a good answer for why.

Assuming I get an interview and I'm asked about this, how would it sound if I said "I chose to leave my master's program after my first semester because I found myself getting burned out and I realized it would be in my best interest financially and personally if I did not attend school for a year or two. However, I am applying to your program now because after having taken some time off, I am mentally refreshed and my desire to be an osteopathic physician has not diminished during my time off. Having been through a program that is as rigorous as medical school coursework, I know what I am up against and I am confident when I say I am able to rise up to the challenge"

No don't say this. You are admitting that you have a history of failing to cope with stressful schedules, so now your interviewer will be concerned about whether you can cope with the medical school schedule. You also don't know if your masters program is "as rigorous as medical school coursework", so saying this can sound very naive.

nope, if you drop out, it's not going to look good and I can't think of any answer that will look good for you, especially if you say burnout. Medical school is much more rigorous than whatever masters your are doing ( why anatomy masters?! wth is an anatomy masters anyways).
This is something you have to adjust and get through it or if you drop out then may have to pick something else instead of medicine.

There is no master's program anywhere near as rigorous as medical school.

If you can't get As in a master's, there's no way in hell you can handle medical school.

8 credit hours? Dude, the first semester of medical school is 30 credit hours.

There's a good reason why GPA is most important factor in admission.

Think very carefully about this. Your reasoning does not work, because medical school is more difficult than a master's in anatomy. To prove you can handle the rigor of medical school, you need to prove you can handle your master's program.

You are already at a bad start in a not so hard master's program. Being burned out is a poor excuse for your failing grades (especially in 8 credits c'mon now). In my opinion, you do not meet the required stamina to endure the tough schedule that is medical school.

It's time for Plan B

Concur with Goro.
Even if you got in, you will be at risk failing out.
And if you lie about the application process, remember if you being discovered during school, they will still dismiss you.
Never good to lie on the apps.

This is interesting - Medical OR osteopathic schools? What is an Osteopathic school if not a medical school?
