Duke Not ED

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I applied a few weeks back and have only received confirmation that they received my materials. I think I saw their interviews are in January.

I applied back in September and according to the email my application was received and under review in October and that I should start hearing back within the next 2 months (December). I haven't heard anything since then. Let me know what you guys find out!!

I applied back in Sep. too, and so far I've just received a confirmation email.

Yeah, I got an e-mail Oct. 20th saying they received my application and another Oct. 24th saying it was sent to the admissions committee and would be reviewed in the next two week and they'd contact me about an interview if selected. I just wasn't sure if anyone's had actually been reviewed and been contacted about an interview (trying to figure out when they do interviews or if they've already done a bunch that weren't ED).

Same here, I only got a confirmation email. With the holidays drawing near, I wonder if Duke will have a lot of interviews scheduled this year... May be the bulk of them will be in Jan-Feb of next year.

Did you call and check on your application to see if it has been reviewed? I have not yet received an email saying that. The only email I have receieved says that my application will be carefully reviewed in the next two months and that was back at the beginning of October. I figured I will not call again to check in until after December when that 2 months is up.

I got an email on October 10th saying i would be notified if I had an interview within 2 weeks, but I haven't hear anything. My pre-health advisor has a buddy that teaches in PT, so he's gonna try and figure out what's up. I wonder if they're taking longer because their app is due today and they want to see what they're prospectives look like?

That's not good news, since I got one 2 weeks after you saying the same thing and you have yet to hear from them. I hope you (and I) hear soon. Let us know if you get the call/e-mail!

Just got it today actually! So maybe they're just running a little late?? The interview dates they gave me were november 11, december 5th, and january 9th...so not to many options! Good luck!!!!

Did you receive a letterin the mail or email or a phone call?? How did you find out!!! Congrats on the interview!!!

It was an email. I called them yesterday and they seem pretty busy, so hopefully yours will be coming soon! Thanks and good luck to you!!!

When will you be at Duke interviewing? I'll be there on Friday. Might be fun to meet up with interviewees who will be there at the same time.

I was also invited for an interview, and picked Dec. 5.

Congrats on the interviews you guys! Those of you who have already received interviews, what was your GRE and GPA scores?

My pre-req GPA (computed by PTCAS) is 3.65, my undergrad GPA is 3.7, and my GRE score is 1390 (660 V, 730 Q, 4 AW).

GPA 3.67, GRE 1300. I'm staying with two current DPT students tonight, and I definitely recommend it. They have been extremely hospitable and have given me lots of insight into tomorrow's interview day. I'm looking forward to it!

What were the interviews like?

I did early decision, so I interviewed way back in September, but the interview was very laid back. There were no tricky questions and it seemed like my interviewer really just wanted to get to know more about me. She asked me about hobbies, what I did to stay organized/do well in school/stay sane when I was performing/rehearsing (I'm a dancer) pretty much all the time, and some other general information about myself.

She also asked me to talk about something I considered an important/current issue in PT, how I would deal with a patient who just didn't improve (because I spoke about a very rewarding experience with a patient who improved greatly in my essay), and if there were any specialties I was interested in.

It was very conversational and I asked her a LOT of questions as well. Everyone else who was interviewing that day felt that their interviews were very relaxed, too. If I remember correctly, another poster here who is going to my classmate at Duke (kcrat21, woohoo!) interviewed with the new chief of the program and they talked mostly about soccer.

How long between when PTCAS sent out your materials until you heard back from Duke? Congrats to all of you and best of luck with your interviews.

Has anyone who interviewed on 11/11 heard a reply from Duke yet???? Good luck to everyone!

Headed up to Duke for the interview in a couple days and I know some of you others are too. Did any of the 11/11 interviewees hear back yet? Any advice?

I interviewed at Duke on 12/5. The program is top-notch: excellent faculty, new facilities, and you have Duke Hospital next door. The only drawback is the cost, but all private universities are in the same ballpark.

If I remember correctly what one faculty member told me, Duke accepted 12 folks during early decision.

I also was at Duke monday and LOVED it. A lot more than I thought I would. They have a really different style of teaching than a lot of other programs-its all team based learning and really meshes with the way i learn best. Guess it's not for everyone, but Duke was wonderful.

The interview was SUPER laid back, so don't be too nervous! The vast majority of us came out of our interview smiling =) Make sure you bring questions with you and remember what you wrote on your application/personal statement. They mostly just asked me about experiences I've had and things I highlighted on my app. And then the standard: why PT? where do you see yourself in 5 years?...

I'm so anxious to hear back form them! Have a blast at your interview!

Like jblil and almcam1921 said, the Duke interview was really more of a conversion and I think about half of mine was me asking questions. The interview portion is only 30 minutes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this program!

I stayed with a student and I highly recommend doing that. I got to know a few 1st year students and they were all really sweet and gave me insight on the interview/program/Durham area the night before. On top of that, we had lunch w/ 2nd years and they were all so nice too. And so was the faculty. Seriously, such a great group of people at Duke!
