Early Bird AMCAS 2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Crackhead. 🙂 I like it.

Thank you...now I have something to do at work!

Awesome. I love how we get all the black-market information first. ;-) lol

So working on it! Thanks...I needed a distraction from finals!

😎

when i clicked the link it said " we're sorry, the AMCAS 2008 application is not yet available"....

It stopped working!!!

I entered info and then logged off and it said it was unavailable.

Will the information I entered be erased?

They must have realized the glitch. I never logged out and mine is still working....God forbid they have it up on May 2 instead of May 3!!

Hah, I don't wanna see that until next week.

I bet one of the AAMC people was reading SDN and figured it out.

It came up, and I was like, oh nooo!

Glad to know I didn't kill it...

Hardcore gunnin man. Speechless.

less than 24 hrs till it comes out!

Print out that transcript sheet and get it to your registrar soon, before the post-graduation rush. The last thing you want is a transcript to slow your AMCAS verification.

finished!...I wonder if it worked..

Ouch.

I am writing to inform you that you started completing your AMCAS 2008
application before the scheduled opening. All information that you've
entered has since been deleted and you will be permitted to re-enter
tomorrow, May 3rd, 2007 at 9:30 AM, ET.

Please feel free to contact AMCAS if you have additional questions at

Haha, knowing AAMC, I'd expect they'd BAN you from applying to medical school FOREVER because of that.

I totally want that job. I wonder what it pays? Do the benefits include dental?

I'll be second in line for that job!

Do you think I'll get wait-listed if you get offered the job? Or will I just get flat out rejected?

do they have a transcript form that needs to accompany requests? I already requested my transcripts.

I wonder if they alert the medical schools that you want to apply to!

Seeing as I'm a re-app, it shouldn't be too terrible, but seriously, deleting it? Ridiculous!

got that too. What is weird, though-- Jayme put a list of all the other emails of the applicants.. I wonder if that is against policy. Someone at Indiana, NYU, etc. That shouldn't be right. Now someone else knows my email and name.😡 😡

I completely felt that way too! Come on, BCC is there for a reason...

I'm still logged into the application and my info seems to still be there. I wonder what would happen if I stay logged in until 935 EST tomorrow...

I have a feeling that it will be deleted as soon as I log out. Well, at least FF saved most of the stuff.

Folks, just stop obsessing. Do you seriously think that 28 vs 29 days to complete your application will make a difference? I'm sure the da,mn thing could be filled out in like 2 hours if your PS is ready.

I didn't get that e-mail...would someone PM me so's I can check and see if mine is there? My school has a diabolical mail filter!

You guys all missed the boat I already submitted mine 😛 ... j/k

so reading through this thread, one advice that i would like to suggest is to call up amcas to make sure that your transcrpits are for the irght person and are complete .... the reason i say this is that this thread reminded me of something last year that i do not want anyone to go thru:

when AMCAS receives your transcripts, they'll send you an email ... don't assume (like i did) that this means that your transcripts are complete ... i waited in line for a whole month to be verified only to find out my school sent INCOMPLETE transcripts ... AMCAS pushed me to the back of the line, had to wait another month; and after searching through SDN, others had issues where their schools sent the WRONG PERSON'S TRANSCRIPTS ...

i don't want to be such a downer as i know many are excited to get started on the applcation cycle, but better safe than sorry ... so if your have a pretty popular name like John Smith or perhaps your school's offices a full of questionable individuals, best bet is to call up amcas and check ... the person on the other line may give you an attitude about how its the verification departments job to do this, but they can check the superficial stuff (like if the right person or any pages missing) ...

goodluck to all and have fun ....

LOL. Well, that answers that. I wonder if the engineer who put the site live a day early got his/her knuckles rapped? Rookie mistake.

I was in a situation where AMCAS said they recieved my transcript for one school, and they were missing one from another. Well they were actually reversed! So I was hounding the wrong school asking why it had not been sent, when I should have spent my time on the other school. Unfortunatly you always have to double check with them...

I wonder if they alert the medical schools that you want to apply to!

What are they going to say? We announced the application would be available "on or about May 3rd." We actually had the application live on May 2nd. This applicant logged in and started filling it out. We, of course, deleted all their info and made them start over on the 3rd, but we just thought you would want to know.

They put it online. What did they expect to happen?

Well, some people will have to wait for Spring grades anyway and at least at my school it takes a month for your grades to show up on your transcript.

If you want your Spring grades and this is you then just WAIT to send them in. If you send them in once and then send in again once you have spring grades it will just make a big mess. Waiting and getting grades in mid-June will still get you verified in 1-5 working days and will still put you in the first review piles at medical schools. You can still get one of the first interviews and an acceptance by October 15th even if you get it in mid-June to late-July.

I don't say this to disparage those who are in a hurry, but to make those who aren't feel better about it. Apply early yes, but when med schools don't really send out secondaries til' July/August and don't give interviews til' September/October the difference between submitting May and submitting June is pretty much nil.

Yes, there is a form needed as well as the AMCAS number. So if you did not include these with the request you will probably have to re-request them. If you can cancel the request now and have them resent with the form later I would do it.

Sorry to be nit-picky, but I don't think you can submit until June 3rd.

yeah, that sucks. my school is actually holding them for my spring grades, so hopefully I can just get the form (tomorrow?) and drop it off at the academic records office before they get it sent out.

we use the same AMCAS number as before, right? no need to request a new one if we're reapplying?

I believe so, but maybe someone else here is sure.

Depending on what university you attend, you may not need the transcript request sheet. For UT, the registrar's office said that they send it to AAMC electronically so you don't even need a form. I asked about AMCAS number etc. but the woman said she didn't need it.

Sooooo - we'll see

Since we're talking transcripts, can someone verify:

1) the transcripts can arrive to the AAMC before June 3rd, correct? They just won't start processing them till June 3rd.

2) it takes 2-3 weeks to verify the app, so if I'm sending several transcripts, I could have one arriving by, say, June 15th, and not have my app delayed...correct? I'm a bit under pressure here since I'm currently working on a course that should pull up my BCPM a lot (I took few science classes, so any grade really affects my BCPM) and while I'm seriously busting my balls to finish it by May 31st, it still means the transript won't be in till June 10th at the earliest.

Thanks

AMCAS is accepting transcripts now (on or around May 2).

As long as you're complete by July you should still be ahead of the game.

My school (U Iowa) has the same thing. I called AMCAS to ask if this would be a problem and I got a rehersed response "the transcript request form is only a suggestion". Right lady, I understand that. The point is, will you delay the verification of my app because you can't match my transcript to my application because I have to send my trascripts electronically? 😡

hey guys. i'm a sophmore in high school, definitely pre-med (specifically rad/onc). do you think it's wise to fill out an AMCAS application just for practice? I really want to submit at 12:00:00 June 1 2012, so I don't want that being my first time filling out the application. i heard you should fill it out at least three times at the pace you want before doing the real thing.

not really. you'll get plenty of chances to look practice forms before you do the real thing.

for god's sake, go enjoy your youth while you still can.

clever trolling?

If you have all your transcripts in by June 15th it will take FAR less than 2-3 weeks to verify. My first try I was already being verified 1 working day after all transcripts were in (granted they then told me I was missing one, but still). My second try was early July and I only waited 5 working days to get verified.

Oh wow, that sounds comforting. If I get an A in this class (currently I'm about halfway through and it looks like a solid possibility), my BCPM will jump from 3.37 to 3.45, which seems worth a few days' delay....but now it seems like there won't even be a delay.👍

ooooh, the craziness begins!!

good luck guys!! 👍
