The trial to determine Will Graham's fate has begun. Memory is a tricky thing. We like to believe that our minds can be trusted, but Will has personal experience with how naive such a belief can be. He maintains his innocence, and yet even he has doubts. Part of him believes Hannibal has done this to him. The other part longs to believe something else. And yet, if he believes in Hannibal's innocence, he is forced to believe in his own guilt. When he closes his eyes, he sees Abigail Hobbs. Smiling. Dying. Laughing. Crying.

It hadn't occurred to me to send you an ear.
The antler mount. The missing ear. The Glasgow Smile. The flames. "Will Graham's greatest hits". Someone is trying to help him - to prove his innocence by copying the methods of the kills he's been accused of while he is locked up. Is it the real killer, finally taking credit for his crimes? Or is it a copycat, with some obsessive interest in Will's fate?
Hannibal sits in his office, staring at the empty chair where Will should be.

Will had asked her to investigate with fresh eyes. She would not go looking for Hannibal in the evidence, but she would try to see beyond the assumptions. The opportunity came and she took it. But perhaps she had been too brave this time. She was clever, yes. But it was rude to intrude on someone's personal space without permission. And rudeness would always be punished.

Miriam Lass opens her eyes. An emptiness, outlined in an itch she can't scratch, exists where one of her arms used to be. It is dark, and she is hungry, and scared. But she is alive. For now.
The sun rises as the stag shakes off the events of the night and finds a quiet place to rest. The peaceful morning is interrupted by the squealing of pigs.
