for those of you who are considering Emory
Have you started looking for housing options? If so, what do you think/suggest?

I'm planning on driving around/checking out places next week. I looked online and found some nice places but really want to see how far they are deom the school.
I've looked up information about Campus Crossing at Briarcliff and Post Briarcliff apartments
I've read some pretty nasty reviews about the Post....
I'm thinking about Campus Crossing at Briarcliff...what are the reviews like for those?
Run as far away as possible. Bursting water pipes with 1000 gallons of damage and zero compensation/rent reductions for noise/dust etc. inconsiderate management, lost packages, car break-ins, insect infestations, cheap furniture, not enough parking for residents, the list goes on. If looking at places for Emory try Gables or even Post-Briarcliff. Ask any grad student at Emory who lived here and you will hear plenty of horror stories.
yea....... which ones do you have in mind so far?I've been searching online and looked at a lot of the apartment complexes around campus. I wish I could personally see the places next week but I won't have a car It seems like a lot of the places have horrible ratings so getting a bit worried.
well, not many of them are available. In fact, I only found one for Campus Crossing
but yea, I'm gonna ask some of the RSPH people when I go next week.
I was originally considering Post Briarcliff. It looks pretty good, actually, but a lot of reviewers mentioned something about car break-ins, home break-ins, stabbing, rude apt staff....etc.
I'm checking out Virginia Highlands apartments

Where did you go to find info about Post Briarcliff? I thought there was only one near-campus housing complex called Campus Crossings at Briarcliff.
Maybe we could start a roomie matching thing here once everybody decides if they're going to Emory or not?

Post briarcliff and campus crossing are the most popular places for RSPH students. All complex' are going to have positive and negative reviews. I know people who love and hate both of those locations. That's just life. Campus crossing is new as of last summer so I think they were getting over some first year turbulence.
Personally, I live in harwood and last year lived at clifton heights. Both of these are literally across the street from RSPH. I walk to school every day. Clifton heights is nicer and significantly more expensive (re: 800$/month) then harwood (re: 466$/mo). I would strongly advise anyone apartment hunting to consider these locations.
How did you get in touch with Harwood offices when you first decided to move there? They don't seem to have an email and their office hours seem really short.

What type of apartment do you get with those two prices? (e.g. 1 BR, 1 BA, 2 BR, 2 BA..etc)

JKMPH, how early do you suggest securing housing?
I am on the Emory Off-Campus Housing finder and see so many posts about the upcoming school year. Kind of freaking out that I have no idea what I am doing. When do you most people have their housing figured out by?
post briarcliff seems pretty decent
but people complain a lot about safety
For those who moved to Atlanta from a different state, how much were the moving costs? Did you ship your furniture or buy new furniture? Did you drive your car or have it shipped? This is my first time moving out of CA so I need some advice! Thank you 🙂
I packed as much stuff as I could into my car and shipped down about 5 or 6 boxes filled mostly with clothes.
I called Kenco-Briarcliff. They have furnished one bedrooms for less than campus crossings. I'm worried about choosing something without seeing it.
I went to Emory for undergrad and the Kenco apt's were kind of the only apartments I had seen in ATL which my friends and I vowed to NEVER live in. We were actually waiting for them to knock those down. I would hesitate before you move in but if you want the best price it is VERY close to campus and food and an overall, great location. Sorry if I've put a damper on your plans! Happy to answer any other q's about housing near Emory and ATL.
is campus crossing really that bad?
i looked at the website and the property looks extremely good...furnished, with your own bed/bath for around 650! (for the 3 room apt)...this is a steal compared to LA!
HappySwallow- I lived in off-campus campus housing for two years of undergrad at Emory and it was pretty awesome. The apartments were furnished and even larger (compared to what you've probably seen in LA and I've lived in DC/NYC). That's a great deal if you don't want to sign a year long lease. You can probably find apartments for 400-500 but you might not get your own bathroom and you'll definitely need all of your own furniture. Depends what you're looking for but Emory takes care of all of its students.

Yeah, what are some good apartments in Decatur and Virginia Highlands?Decatur or Virginia Highlands?
I am most likely coming to Emory next year and will NOT have a car. What are the best places to look nearby to campus in terms of walking distance or safe biking distance? Are there reasonable apartments within a short distance to campus with access to grocery stores, etc?
jkmph, do you have any idea if a one bedroom condo will be available at Harwood?
