all schools want an english credit but does it matter what type...im taking a linguistics class this year and i read that some schools have listed composition as one of their requirements...

will linguisitcs fulfill the english requirement?

thanks

does anyone know whether Childrens Literature would be okay for the English pre-req?

That'd be sweet if linguistics counts.... anyone know?

I'd also be interested in knowing what applicants used for their English requirement, as schools seem to be all over the map with it, from Uconn (?facility in English?) to Tufts ("1 semester writing-intensive Humanities or Social Science course (may include History, English, Comparative Literature, Philosophy, Government or Women's Studies") to Detroit ("First year university courses in composition will satisfy the requirement (Composition I & II). Three semester hours of credit in literature may be used to satisfy part of this requirement - if the course description confirms writing was an integral element of the course.").

Most seem to want the ever-vague 2 English classes, but what exactly counts? I could just imagine someone with a 3.8/22 getting rejected b/c their English course was deemed unacceptable by an adcom secretary 👎

I called some of the schools because I have only done 1 read lit class and a shakespeare class while I was in London. UOP said that its just a way to make sure you can speak, read and write in english. If you did fine on the QR and you are somewhat literate then I think two kinda english related classes will be fine. Call the schools if you're not sure, im sure they'll say the same.

I called UCSF to make sure that my classes counted. They require 2 english composition classes and one english literature. Unfortunetly for me my lit class was German Lit (although translated into english ie Faust, Frued, Marx etc) so I am taking British Lit right now in summer school 🙁 . Actually it's pretty interesting and a nice break from all of my science classes.

So in short, my advice is to call so that you can take any extra classes that you need.

most schools require you to have mastered 2 english compositions, or sometimes 1 composion and 1 literature, or 2 comps and 1 lit (ucsf). you might wanna give a call and check.

I think that the average requirements of most baccalaureate degrees will satisfy the english requirement for dental school.
