Multiple red flags all over the place. How can I address this issue without focusing on the situation leading up to failing step 1? I had family and marital issues, but "issues" will always be there and I want to highlight my growth in dealing with issues and provide confidence this issue will not arise with future exams.

I cannot put "I failed Step 1, so I took a year off for remediation," but that is exactly what happened. Any thoughts on how I can maturely address this and focus on the growth? I have no words....

Well on eras there is a section to explain gaps in training, so maybe use that. And then in your PS, just dont even talk about it. Try to get with your school dean to see how the incident will be worded in your MSPE.
