Does anyone know if ERAS charges the $60 min(for upto 10 programs) for each type of Prelim year. For example if I apply to 5 Prelim Medicine spots and 5 Prelim Surg spots, will ERAS stick me for $60 or $120. I've email ERAS asking the same question but they don't seem to anxious to reply.

These applications add up quick! I am already forking out $200+ for Anesth programs, at least $60 for TY programs plus $50 to have my USMLE sent and another $50 for the COMLEX. What a joke.

If you apply to 5 prelim med and 5 prelim surg programs, you will pay the higher price (if that's $120) as you are applying to two different specialities. All of these costs are small prices to pay in the long run and if you are genuinely interested in prelim surg and have reason to believe you aren't competitive enough for transitional years (or have geographic limitations), then it's worth paying for the extra "insurance."

My dean has led me to believe that since I am applying to a specialty (anesthesiology) where some of the schools will not offer PGY1, that when I apply to the different transitional/prelim med programs, I will not be charged for applying to these programs, in addition to my anesthesiology programs. is this correct? thanks playas!

incorrect

you will be charged for applying to prelim medicine, you will be charged for applying to TY, etc

I know! It is soooo expensive : ) TY for making me feel like a normal human being and not some stingy scrooge.
People are saying apply to many, apply to many...but hey man, 25 dollars is still a lot...Then again, how much wil it cost to go through this all over again should you not match? Ahhh that is the question indeed!

Yup, your dean gave u incorrect info. As long as the program does not offer PGY 1, you have to apply and pay for it separately...It is a perfect money-making scheme, which justifies why we don't see a lot of integrated programs... Hmpft.

Hey everyone. I have another question. Am I also going to be charged separately if I applied to both categorical and prelim of a specific program of the same specialty in the same hospital?😕

Thanks.

I just wanted to point out that programs get ZERO of any payments you make to ERAS, so the only "money making scheme" is for the AAMC.

Wow eras really got a good deal : )
Still wish there were more integrated programs out there, I mean, technically PGY1 is an integral part of the program. Then again, as a friend of mine old me regaring the match process, if you can't beat it, swallow it...To which I add: AND PRAY PRAY PRAY YOU GET THE BEST SLOT LIFE HAS FOR YOU : )
