I currently have an interview on the 26th on this month, I've been doing some research and trying to keep up with the current issues, mainly on drugtopics.com and the health section of the Newyorktimes. All the articles i've been reading don't really seem to be that important and don't pose to be a possible essay topic at all for my interview at the school of pharmacy at SIUE.

I was just wondering what are the current health/medicine related news that I should be really looking into? I haven't been seeming to have any luck in finding any.

Any help would be awesome - thanks!

-Medicare
-Medical errors
-Liability issues in the pharmacy
-Possible Over-supply of pharmacists

Personally, I've never encountered such topics in the essay portions of my interviews. Usually they would ask you about such things during the interview itself. For me, I had essay prompts pertaining to trivial topics like : "what would you do if you caught your friend cheating?" and "Discuss what EC's you've done in college." I didn't interview at SIUE, so i don't know about them specifically.

Yeah the essay topics are usually pretty broad, but researching pharmacy will help in the interview. One place with good articles is the APhA website. There's a ton of info on there.

did they mention specifically that the essay will be on current issues within health care / pharmacy? the essays i've had to do were on casual topics which had no right or wrong answer. i know some schools just want to know that you can formulate an idea/opinion and express it thoroughly on paper. (i.e. if i could add someone to mt. rushmore who would it be and why?)

essay is very broad. I am pretty sure most schools are just looking that you are able to formulate your thoughts and think coherently and put that ideas in writing. You can not really prepare for that portion since the essay can vary from like why is this your favorite color... just be able to write a cohesive essay and you will be fine

Thanks for the input guys

I'm not really sure what to expect. I've heard from some people that their essay was relatively specific and then some that are, as you guys said, very very general and basically relies on ethics, writing skills, etc.

I will check out the APhA website though, thanks
