Evms

So I know i dont have a right to complain yet (I interviewed 2.5 weeks ago), but I really want to just get one acceptance already. I've got a G-town interview mid December which I would love to blow off if I could just get into EVMS before then.

Not even waitlisted.. Stupid not acceptable....I hate that wording...why cant they just say rejected...grrrrr

it almost seems like your decision is in the order you interview. really early people - accepted. medium people - waitlisted. late - rejected.

ugh. stupid.

"The admissions committee has made a decision on your application and has found you not acceptable"
Wow, thats harsh.
Sorry about the rejections, I was really rooting for you guys. Did you find out by calling or snail mail?

I interviewed the other day and they told us that they had handed out ~165 acceptances out of ~250 total. So they're not technically out of seats, but rather probably being very picky at this point.

Hope that helps.

Thanks beachblonde!!! That's really helpful information. Although, those of us on the waitlist will probably have to wait for 150 people to decline their acceptances.. Man this is going to be painful...

I interviewed 11/2, called today and finally got a decision. Acceptance!
Best of luck to those of you still waiting to hear!

congrats, NCGirl85!

I'm hoping I get good news sometime soon, too :luck:

Interviewed Oct 24
Called today: Bottom third wait list (OOS)
Good luck to all

isn't their class size only ~110?

It is 110, but a bunch of the people they accept will get multiple acceptances and eventually enroll somewhere else. So, like every medical school, they give out more acceptances than seats in the class.

They're increasing it to around 120 this year, fyi.

Really? I hadn't heard that...that's good news for people waiting to get in. Is it posted anywhere online, or did they tell you that at the interview?

My student tour guide speculated that they would increase the number of seats again. They had almost 115 last year...(5 more than the year before), well that's what he said anyway.

That is correct, we have 115 students in the M1 class. I don't know what they are doing for next year. But just remember that being waitlisted isn't a terrible thing, ESPECIALLY if you are in the top third of the waitlist. Lots of our classmates came off the waitlist.

i feel like i should call to inquire about my status but my interview did not go well and i am a little scared. lol. it seems like everyone is getting waitlisted.

anyway, cheers to anyone else who graduated this semester already/will graduate this week!!:luck:

bumping....anybody hear anything recently?

they said that my interview group would hear back within three weeks...it's been about two but I'm too afraid to call. :scared:

i haven't heard anything from evms yet (post-interview). i just got into vcu so i'm withdrawing my app on monday. good luck everyone!!

so I called evms today and they said that I probably won't hear back until Jan. ew! so much for hearing within three weeks.

I suppose everybody's behind in reviewing apps nowadays, with the holidays and everything. but it still sucks to have to wait....

Called today, waitlist. Interviewed 12/5.

interviewed 11/30, wait-listed (top 1/3). i thought my interview went really well, oh well.

any west coasters scheduled to interview @ evms?

i have an interview in january but dont know much about the school and want to see if any cali kids are planning to go.

interviewed 12/5, called today and I am waitlisted.

Has anyone who interviewed on 12/7 heard anything back yet. When I called this past Friday they had not made a decision. Just wondering...

EVMS' waitlist moves fast, so those of you waitlisted do not be discouraged.

Called today and found out I was in the lower third of the waitlist. I am pretty bummed about it but at least it is not a rejection. Anyone know the chances of an IS lower third getting in?

i met several M1s and M2s who were in in the bottom third of the waitlist, so keep your head up. you definitely have a shot, good luck!

interviewed early Nov, got waitlisted late Nov, got acceptance last week. sent in rejection today.

Looks like their wait list moves fast. good luck folks!

Wow! You got off the waitlist already? So you got off the waitlist a month after you were placed on it? Did you do anything between getting waitlisted and getting the acceptance, like sending an update letter? Also, by sending in rejection, did you mean that you decline their offer?

so I called and got the answer: bottom 1/3rd waitlist.

that sucks.

I'm ticked because I know it was because my interviewer on the ADCOM didn't like me. She kept making snarky comments to me, rolled her eyes a lot, and was just really unpleasant. I wish I had requested another interview, but it's too late for that.

I wonder how many students can get off the lower 1/3rd...probably not too many. 🙁

From just about every account I've heard, the EVMS panels do their best to play devil's advocate. There's a good chance your interviewer didn't hate you, he/she was just playing the part to see how you handled it.

You know, I thought about that. But it wasn't devil's advocate: I would understand if I said "well I like the idea of a single payer system" and they had shot back with "but what about medicaid?". That's devil's advocate...this was something different. Like, when I said why I chose my current graduate program, the interviewer rolled their eyes and made a very derogatory comment about my school. That sort of stuff. It was very clear from the moment I sat down said interviewer was not going to be pushing for me to get in. 🙄

I didn't do **** in the four weeks between waitlist and acceptance. I think maybe them waitlisting me was some kind of mistake now that I think about it. I had (as I later told my spouse) the best interview ever. In fact, that's what I put in my notes for that school: "Best. Interview. Ever." I have a great GPA, and decent MCAT (above average). My interview consisted of him lobbing me questions and me smashing them out of the park. Even the impossible ones that nobody gets right, I got right. He even said "no one gets that right... that's amazing." The interview actually started with him saying "you look great on paper, I'd take you right now" and ended with "Great! Can't wait to see you in August!" ... ... and ... ... then I got waitlisted. Kinda took the wind out of my sails. So yeah, not quite sure what the hell happened there. First I thought maybe the waitlist is just moving super fast, but now I'm thinking maybe they just screwed up some paperwork if no one else has come off the waitlist yet.

Yep, I declined their acceptance. I had other acceptances so when they waitlisted me I pretty much just took it as a rejection and moved on... getting that acceptance from them on Christmas Eve was kinda of a "what the f*ck?" experience. That's verbatim what I said when I opened the envelope.

They try to play devil's advocate, but they're not that good at it. God bless 'em. They seemed like just really, really good people. They didn't have it in them to be difficult, at least not in my interview. But hey, they gave it their best shot. 🙂

man, I was top third OOS 2 months ago, now i'm middle third. this sucks.

They did a poor job with me too. After one or two questions they warmed up to me and loved me. OOS acceptance 3 weeks later!

gah, I'm jealous.

we need a jealous smiley. the best approximation they have is the crying one...and that's just too pathetic right now.

ulalalalaboy, did you call and find out that you had moved on the waitlist, or did they send you a letter telling you that?

I didn't even know that your spot could move like that. I suppose it could work both ways...time to send in an update letter...
