guys,

Those who have gone through the F1 visa rejection / re-rejections, can you help me on this?

i'm an international applicant; have got admit to the summer semester for the University of North Texas [UNT], MPH program for which I am denied an F1 on Apr 5th.

I had also got admit to the MPH in Drexel, for Fall 2012.

I was asked a the window why UNT over Drexel,
# I told the visa-officer, the particular research I was interested in under a renowned Professor
# and secondly, the fact that UNT is an accredited and reputed MPH program in USA but the tuition at UNT fits my budget.

1]]Do u guys think it was a blunder to mention ' affordable tuition' as one of the reason why I chose this university

2]] SHOULD I GO for the visa IV again in a few weeks for North Texas university ? OR should I go for the IV in Fall with a 'better' Drexel university? finances are not an issue for me

Thanx!!

Hello...I had a F1 rejection last year and my course was MHA.I read over hundreds of Visa interviews on various blogs and what i am writing here is my conclusion or view. Choice of University does matter here.Going to a Low ranked or some less known one is like a time pass and it also shadows your credentials of being a qualified and genuine student. Also, they ask that in how many universities you applied ,during which, they assess our commitment to our program of study and how eligible we are for that.I have no idea of UNT but Drexel is really a better university and honestly i feel that u have much better chance of getting visa for Drexel. If you are committed to UNT,then make it clear why you choose it over drexel.Affordability is never a blunder. You can mention accreditation, class size, research projects, alumni network, funding opportunities and relevance of your program to your career goals rather than concentrating on 2-3 main points. If you apply for Drexel this time, then also make an answer for your switching of university.
There are many students who get their Visa in reattempts. So,don't loose your heart and jus believe that you are getting Visa, this time,no matter what.SO GuD LuCk...

Really appreciate your reply Ryan. I had some strong reasons for going into USA in summer, North Texas was a stepping stone; but this rejection has made me cynical to go for it again in summer.
A friend of mine currently pursuing MPH in Drexel has advised me to ' take the safe bet' and avoid summer intake and go the IV only in Fall.

Drexel it is then, for me ! Thanx again

I know nothing about Visas, but if you're more likely to get one if you go to a better school, I'd say go for Drexel.

I live near UNT right now for my undergrad, and the general consensus down here alone seems to be that my school (which is good, but not even close to Drexel's prestige) is SO much better than UNT, so I'd assume Drexel would be better to go to. However, I understand choosing based on costs, and being interested in certain professors, so if UNT really is your first choice, I hope you're able to get your visa to go there!

jamie, you've made Ryan's point even more clear now. That i'm chose UNT over Drexel despite admits from both was enough to create a reasonable amount of doubt in visa officer's mind to reject my visa ! Thankyou

But, if you really like the professors and the course there, maybe you can convince them. Prestige and rank aren't everything, if you really want to go, I hope you can get it, but if you were just going for the price, Drexel might be your best bet. Good luck 🙂
