Failed to match twice seeking help.

Break your ass, work hard, get people to vouch for you and make calls. If a program knows you want them and you're willing to put in the effort and time then they'll help you match.

They are keeping people like me who failed the Pe in a “temporary holding pattern” and are deciding on additional attestation requirements from my last contact with them.

There is no 6 month rule. If they want to fight you on this, they have to provide official proof of this. They can't just make stuff up. I would strongly suggest you keep pushing this issue
 
You'll have significantly fewer issues now with the Step scores, so well done!! As a program that historically has taken a lot of DO's we still look at Step scores over COMLEX (and in the rank meetings I always remind everyone on the panel that COMLEX is a joke and if someone does poorly on the COMLEX and well on the USMLE it's a comment on the COMLEX and not on the applicant).

So go forth and conquer this next cycle!

Also, if I saw the PE failures I would use the interview to make sure you're a normal human, and if you pass my Turing test I would also remind everyone in our rank meeting that PE is a joke too.

PE is such a joke. Anyone that’s not locked up in a psych ward should be able to pass

I’d bet most people fail for dumb reasons like not doing cranial omm on a depressed patient

Plenty people failed for quota reasons to make the test “statistically significant”. I whole heartedly believe that. Boy was it the single useless test I ever took

Oh ya I can definitely believe that considering step 1/2 is curved and 5% fail still. I'm guessing they're curving it so that 5% fails on purpose. Comlex 1/2 has a 5% failure rate too.
 
That's amazing! I just went to a conference (not for FM), but a program director literally said that he does not extend an interview until you follow up. His logic was that most applicants don't actually want to attend his program and that's how he filters them out. Maybe the other people (like @NotAProgDirector) could chime in here, but definitely consider reaching out with a sincere message if you don't hear back within one month of applying.
 
8 is pretty good! Best of luck. You probably have a good chance with 8 interviews in FM

This is your 4th time applying for the match? And you have 40 interviews?

I encourage you to share your story. Whatever you have done to re-invent your application seems to have worked. Others may benefit from your experiences.

I'll write up a post soon. Have a lot to share for sure.

But yea, it is my 4th time in the match and I do have over 40 interviews this year (47 to be exact). Last year only had 10, and the 2 years prior only had 4 each. I applied to over 800 programs this year, last year around 600 . I think persistence was key, but so was hustling like crazy. I also used a residency prep company to help me redo my entire ERAS application and personal statement as well as guidance on what I should be doing this past year. Definitely lots of sacrifices to get this far but I think it is paying off, especially feeling demoralized every year of not matching. I did a few rotations since graduating and spent a lot on hotels/transportation for them, but glad it's all done now.

Last year was horrible with the first year of virtual and I think programs got too confident as to who would rank them to go there--programs realized that wasn't the case and this year seems to go back to pre-covid times. I am not the only one in this position, I have met many other people (especially DOs) who are applying their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th times without matching. The DO merger has not been kind to DOs from what I have seen. The TRI programs that were reserved for DOs either turned into TY programs or just closed down. These new TY programs ended up taking only top top applicants with super high board scores, because they were able to now. Last year some programs did not end up ranking many people that they interviewed. I know because I have a few friends who interviewed at same programs who did not match at those places (or anywhere) and those programs had 2-4 spots open in SOAP--of course I wasn't considered then either otherwise I wouldn't be here to tell the story.

Damn! you spent what amounted to one year of med school tuition applying to residency. Congrats though. Sounds like you will match this go around. GL.

What specialty are you applying to if you dont mind me asking?

it’s really hard out here having graduated without residency.
I feel like that can be it’s own novel
