Ferris State University Anyone?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks apatel-
I know my stats are good, but I don't want to be cocky, you know? And when people ask me what my plans are for the fall, I hate having to say, well, IF I get accepted I plan to do such and such, but then again, I don't want to say yeah, When I get in, b/c I think that is far too presumptuous. So I just want the thing to come so I can say I got in and be done with it!

P.S. We should be friends, I need some buddies at Ferris!

Just a curious question. They have 3.5 years accelerated program.
Do everyone accepted will have option to choose this option or it's only available to people with very high GPA/PCAT?

Thanks apatel-

Hey, I know exactly what you are talking about. I just want the bloody letter to come already. I'm just saying that you are in a far better position than the majority of people. 👍

LOL, I am sure we will be friends as soon as you get down here. Pharmacy students usually stick together here🙂.

Everyone has the option to choose the accelerated path or not. You make that decision in the middle of your second semester. I have heard mixed reviews about it. Some people say its the same, others said its much harder to take 5-6 courses in the summer.

Thanks for the accelerating info. I definitely plan to do it.

No problem. I also plan on taking the accelerated pathway. See how that goes.

Also, Ferris lets you take medical biochemistry in the summer. I plan on doing it. One less class to worry about in the fall. Do you plan on coming down here in the summer to take a course? I think you have to talk to the pharm school when you get accepted about taking biochem in the summer. They really don't recommend students doing it because you have to take Intro. to drug action in the Winter semester and I guess they are afraid students will forget things from biochem if they take it in the summer and not fall. About a third of the incoming class takes it in the summer however.

i've gone to ferris for 3 years and i went and talked to the dean of pharmacy a couple weeks ago (he said he never meets with prepharm students, lucky me) and he told me they are behind this year due to a staff member leaving. he said mid-april is definitely when they will be sending letters. also, i was pretty disappointed after seeing him because he basically came out and told me my chances weren't that great. i have a chem. gpa of 3.7, math and science 3.5, composite pcat 84. i knew it wasn't the best, but i thought it was still good. guess not!

What courses they used to calculate to rank applicants? BIO, CHEM and MATH (CAL & Stats). That's it??

yeah just science and math is all. pcat is pretty heavily weighted from what i've heard.

do you get the points deducted if you haven't completed all? My statistics course is too old to be considered. Do they consider the breakdown of PCAT score or the whole composite? My reading is only 40%.

You have to have all their course requirements done by the time classes start in fall. I think, not to sure, if your stats class is more than 5 years old you have to retake it.

In past years, they have only looked at the composite scored. They haven't looked at each subject score and I don't think they are this year either.

How did you manage to setup a meeting with him? I would love to talk to him for 5 minutes and ask the basic question, Am I going to get in with my stats.
Did he give you a reason as to why your chances aren't that great? GPA too low?

That's good news for me. Hey, thanks for posting the info about the staff member leaving too, I was curious as to why it would take them longer this year, if there weren't more applicants or anything.

i was able to set up a meeting because of a friend in pharm school who is "tight" with him. like i said, he usually doesn't meet with prepharmers to discuss their chances. if you are desperate to talk to someone, i would talk to tara in the office because she knows a lot more. she can look at your folder and give you an idea. i have a good gpa and pcat, but it turns out a class i took 4 years ago at a community college (before i was prepharm) is docking me 50 spots because i got a C- in the class. all these years i had no idea until now. it's a bio class that isn't even close to bio 121, but they consider it an equivalent for ferris. i tried to get it removed from my transcript, but didn't succeed. 🙁 at this point i'm hoping my interviews go well at other schools.

I have a friend who had the same thing happen to him last year. But I do think you will still have a decent waitlist number if anything. Where else did you apply?

I emailed Tara some time in Feb and she told me to compare my stats with last years averages. That really didn't help much. I guess I might walk into her office some time this week. I am kind of afraid to though, since they are soo busy😕 and I am afriad that if I tell her I am going to drop by before hand that she might just say don't bother. I really just want to make sure I didn't make any mistakes on my app and went up on the rankings cause of error penalties or worse, got disqualified.

So apparently they sent out rejection letters today. I guess those went out to people who didn't make the minimum PCAT score or got there application disqualified due to errors on the application.

I didn't get no letter so I guess that means admissions letter or a waitlist letter.

I never even thought about my application being disqualified due to errors. I hope this doesn't happen to me!

Doesn't it take longer than same day for mail to arrive?

Yeah. They give a small penalty for errors you make on the application, basically with converting your grades and putting it on the application. If you make 4 or more errors, your application gets disqualified.

Ok, well I don't think I made errors like that, and if I did, likely not four. Anyway, no rejection in the mail yet, keep your fingers crossed for me!

i got a mail today saying i didn't send my transcript before jan 31 so I am out of the game, but I did send last year october or something like that.
but whatever.

I also applied to Midwestern, both Glendale and Chicago, and LECOM. I had my interview at Glendale this past week. I have one at Chicago in two weeks and LECOM in May.

Rejected because some of my prereqs were over 5 years old.

Goodluck with those interviews rachie

So its finally April..hopefully only a few more days before those letters get sent out..I am hoping they come the April 7th week or earlier...ughh..i hate waiting..getting really anxious..

This thread was the last thing I read before going to bed last night. Then I had a dream last night, a nightmare really, that I did not get into Ferris. It was worse than I've imagined it actually would be!

Fortunately the rejection was based on my lousy January PCAT score. In real life, I did not take the January PCAT - I took the October PCAT. Big sigh of relief! The letter should be coming soon!!!

Hahaha, I had a dream the other night that I got accepted, and then when I woke up and realized I haven't been accepted yet I was sad.

I have dreams every night where I get the letter and just as I am about to open it, I wake up.

My mom is starting to get really upset that they haven't sent the letters yet. I know it says mid-April, but I personally would feel better if they would give a date they will send them out by. She was yelling tonight about how everyone has deadlines, and if one of their staff members left, they should be working harder to make up for it. It does really blow that we have to wait a month longer than everyone did last year. 🙁

Yeah, my family is starting to get annoyed too. So am I. Hopefully Monday. But it is difficult for them when the staff memeber that left was the dean of admissions. Right now they have 2 interim deans who haven't really ever gone through this process before. But I got the feeling they will send them out this week.

i'm getting SUPER impatient!!!!!!!!!! the first thing i do every morning is go get the mail, before i do anything. lol i feel like i'm going to die if i don't hear back this coming week. ahhhhh!

Holy crap, I knew someone high up must have left, but I didn't realize it was the dean of admissions. Wow. I hope the interim deans make good decisions...

ughh..so today wasnt the day..now im really pissed and fustrated😡..i really feel that making us wait this long is totaly unfair
i walk pass the college of pharmacy every day..and every day i feel like going in there and blowing off some fustration with some people..

I had to work hard to convince my mom not to call them and ask what is going on. I am really nervous, but I think she is even more upset about the delay than I am!

If you didnt have a complete application they would have sent you a rejection letter by now right?

From what I have heard from other students here at Ferris is that all rejection/disqualification letters were sent out the March 17th week. All that is left are admission letters and waitlist letters. But that could just be a rumor.

I assume that they have already made a final decision on their ranking formula and that they are in the process of ranking each applicant right now.

I've been doing just fine waiting up until this point.

Now that I'm sensing the letters will be sent out any day now, I'm getting stressed. I've checked both this forum and the Ferris website several times today already, hoping to find some sign that the letters have been mailed...

It's driving me nuts...!

Ok guys, as soon as you get your letter, be sure to get on here and post! I know I will. Good luck to everyone!

"Hopefully at the latest by the end of next week."

That is what I was told when I sent out an email to Tara.
So don't sit by your mailbox for the rest of this week.
I will definately post here when I receive a letter or hear anything new.

End of next week? Crap! Thanks for sending that email and posting updates on here though, I appreciate it!

Yes, thanks for the update!

I wonder if people really have recieved their rejection letters or if thats just a rumor. If it is just a rumor then people suck!!!!

No problem guys.

No. There are people that have received rejection letters. I was just saying that I don't know if all of them got sent out.

Ok, I'm going nuts. I'm going to assume April 20th is the end of mid-April, so I guess it'll be sometime this coming week. How are you guys holding up?

I really hope its this week. I am going crazy!:scared:
I am kind of at the point where there is no more excitement left though.
I guess its cause I have 4 exams this week!!:scared:
I am assuming its going to be sent out Mon, Tues or Wed.
Obvisouly, the further you live from Ferris, the longer it will take for you to receive a letter.

Yeah, I'm like two hours away. As for a guess, I'm going to say Thursday. Although I hope it's sooner. 🙂

Oh yeah, and good luck on your exams!

any day now.............

i have no problems waiting during the weekend, or even on weeknights. but when i'm at work, bored out of my mind, it's all i can think about.

any day now.............

do you think they'll post an announcement on the pharmacy admissions website when they've mailed the letters?

any day now.............

It didn't come today. 🙁 I have no idea whether they'll post stuff on the website or not. Perhaps. Anyways, hang in there!

there are rumors going around campus that the letters were sent out today...i guess we'll see if its true in a day or two.
