3) What specialties are you interested in? What have you done to get there?
4) Advice for incoming students. What about those with children/SOs?
5) How much time do you have for yourself? Time outside of studying? Do you have time to do fun stuff on the weekend?
6) Is it possible to do significant research during school? How do you balance study time vs. other commitments?

9) What are your tips for surviving/adjusting in the first couple of months?
10) Looking back now, what would you have done differently to maximize success with Anatomy?

11.) What are the characteristics of the most successful students in your class? How, if at all, do those characteristics differ from those of the most successful undergraduate students?

Bonus question: how do stress levels compare in the first 2 years to: a) average undergrad, b) mcat prep, c) application season?

I like how the list of questions doesn't have mine on it... Lame.

Most people seem to do some mild review in the few months leading up to the exam, but it really doesn't pick up until your actual dedicated time. Just like the MCAT, though, each person has a slightly different strategy and approach depending upon what they need to work on and what works best for them.

(sent from my phone)

Yea my girlfriend (an M3 now) did some board prep towards the end of M2. The 10-12hr marathons of kaplan/uworld/fa didn't start until after M2 ended though.

Can you do podcasts? Just for things that would interest a pre med student. You could talk about different study habits, how you use your new phone app to organize your day, what you would of done differently, funny things that happened in med school. I would definitely tune in once a week/every two weeks.
Otherwise, does anyone know of any similar podcasts?

I am way for all of this. Please let it happen!

14) I've once heard a med school dean say, "UGs are shocked when they get to med school, and realize they can't slack off and catch up on weekends". Idk why they were surprised, but have you ever seen anyone struck by an emergency, and how did they recover?

Hello NickNaylor,

I would love to hear what your average day is from a time management perspective. When do you fit in exercise, eating, how many hours you study. It could be a sanitized version, of course. 🙂 How many hours you spend reading lectures/slides.

Do you audio record the lectures and play them back?
Do you study "other" topics or focus only on what your exact course is covering? Do you study ahead of time for next weeks lecture and try to learn it before you cover it?

Bumping - get your questions in by tonight! We'll start planning how to put it together so that we can get the ball rolling.

All my questions were taken. I can't wait to see the video. Hopefully, it's on youtube.

16) How do regular MD students match up with MD/PhDs when applying for residency? For really competitive academic programs, will the MD be at a significant disadvantage or can they make it up by taking a year off for research or something?

And thanks so much for doing this! Don't know where you get the time/energy to keep on helping us out like you do.

Great idea BTW

11) Can you think of any more of a worthwhile profession in terms of level of nobleness than medicine/medical research? Like, I can think of many, many careers that would be a waste of life, but in terms of the opposite, as far as pursuits that make you feel like you've lived a life that the world, even 500,000 (a very specifically chosen number) years from now, would say didn't suck and was the most Christ-like, would you say that medicine/medical research trumps all the rest of them?

Classic noworkhistory.

I really hope you look and sound like drake. Do not disappoint me.

Thanks for the questions guys! I'll start working on this and hopefully if our schedules are kind we'll get a video up soon!

Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to do this! Definitely bookmarking this thread

This is an awesome idea.

My question would be: how are you all handling your financial responsibilities? Any advice on minimizing debt? Advice on how to gain scholarships would be much appreciated as well.

Thank you for doing this!

Come now, make with the youtube already!!

...I just realized how stalk-ish that looked...

great question, I'd like to know more about this as well.

my question: what courses that you took in undergrad do you feel were the most helpful in preparing you for med school? Are there any courses that were similar to what you learn in med school?

thanks for doing this! can't wait to see the vid!

And overdosed on confidence.

(sent from my phone)

Hey, just wondering where you will post it once it's done? Do you have a Youtube account or will you just post a thread here and link to it?

I ask just because otherwise I might end up forgetting about it and miss out ..

Thanks again!

I don't think this will get accomplished until Thanksgiving Break, so just wait until then.

definitely looking forward to the response on doing research during med school. During MD\PhD interviews so many ppl told me not to worry about research during the first 2 years cuz there wont be time, but all these MD-only ppl seems to be getting pubs in for the more competitive specialties, and from what I've heard 3rd year is the worst, and 4th would be pretty late to be just starting on research.

Nick, I noticed you went to Baylor undergraduate..If you are a second year, that makes you a 2011 graduate. What was your undergraduate major??

I also went to Baylor, graduated 2011, Biochem & Biology dual major. I'm almost sure we had classes together.

On a side note, the gals at Baylor are ridiculously attractive. This sums them up: lady in the street, freak in the sheets. But absolutely not dateable, unless you wanna deal with their CEO-type daddies and privileged attitude. (I'll be editing this later, to ensure my top med school doesn't track me down).

I only know 1 girl who went to baylor from hs (and she wouldve been c/o 2011 too) and that looks like a pretty accurate description from what I remember.

I was a biochem major, c/o 2011. And your description of Baylor girls is spot on. 😉

👍 You pretty much described the girls at my school. They're the type that drive a Range/X5/Lexus and drink nothing but Amaretto Sours, vodka mixed drinks, and wine.

Sounds like girls from the OC.

Can't wait to listen in on this!

How much do you deadlift + squat + bench? I feel that this is a very valid and important question that should be considered.

I think I might know who you are. I'll take a shot: Were you the the guy that gave the SURF program presentation that one year??

Though now that you've been quoted so many times, it's pretty much staying on there whether or not you edit it 😛...

Can this please really be filmed by a fire place? In really comfy chairs?

Baylor has all the good stuff. 🙁

By the way, I'll be happy if mmmcdowe or other students showed up in the video.
