Hi all,

Current PGY-3 here and starting to interview for general PM&R jobs after residency! The jobs I’m considering are all outpatient MSK/spine with USGI and EMG and minimal/no inpatient responsibilities. Mix of academics and PP. I have an idea of questions/themes to address during my interview day, but looking for insight on things I may not be thinking of / what my priorities should be.

General themes I plan on asking about:

Work responsibilities
Culture
Compensation structure
Benefits
Call schedule
EMR
Support staff
Loan repayment/signing bonus/moving stipend
Vacation days
CME
Opportunities for ownership/ancillary income
Noncompete
Tail coverage
Onboarding process

What am I missing and what specific details would it be prudent to nail down while I’m at the interview???

Thanks!

Work responsibility -what does a day look like patient load number procedure per day or week
Culture- Alignment(we want good quality) vs compliance (the Kaiser way)
Compensation- salary, bonus structure, guarantee
Benefits- identify penilties for golden handcuff(Pension means nothing if they have a poor retention rate
Call schedule- what are you responsible for
Vacation days/CME- they should just lis a number of day and finding anything else is fish.

The most important thing thing to nail down is if you like the people you will be working with and if you trust them enough to move forward. All the other stuff you can work through when you get a offer and verify with a contact review.
