Hello Everyone:

Here's my stats:

28 yr old male; MN resident

cGPA 3.71
sGPA 3.87

Major: Chemistry
Minor: Biology

MCAT: 507 (unbalanced) 130/124/127/126 (c/p:c/r:b/b😛/s)

Research: ~100hrs no publication/posters
Paid Employment: ~ 15,000 hrs mostly as an engineer/scientist
Paid Employment: ~ 200 tutor
Paid Clinical: ~ 500 hrs
Volunteer: ~ 50 hrs

Where should I apply? Please, help me!

IMO your stats are good for any DO school (I believe a 507 is roughly a 30). 124 may get screened at some schools so just check for min req in each section. ECs could be a little better especially volunteer hrs. What were your paid clinical hrs? I would apply to any school you would feel comfortable attending.

For clinical, I assist individuals w/ physical and mental disorders. I was considering retaking the MCAT, on the account I had the flu, but I've already postponed this process far too long! Thx for the encouraging words!

Before giving you advice on DO schools. 100% focus on sending in your MD apps as early as possible. I don't know much about where your scores actually fit with your selected MD schools. @gyngyn could give you good advice on it.

Cross out MSU if you are OOS or are fine paying 80K in just tuition alone.
OUHCOM has a 5 year contract for OOS applicants in which after med school you must serve the Ohio region for minimum of 5 years.
OSU is also very in state focused.

The rest are good. You could pick from any DO school (except maybe TCOM). Here's a revised list, red means it's prob not in your best interest, bold means I added it to your list:

PCOM
CCOM
MUCOM
MSUCOM (state funded, IS preferred)
NYITCOM (NY or Arkansas site)
NSUCOM
OUCOM (same as above)
OSUCOM (same as above)
UNECOM (regional bias)

KCU-COM (KC or Joplin)
LECOM
AZCOM
ATSU SOMA or KCOM
Touro CA/NV
Touro COM (NY)

Thanks, for the input!
My goal is to be accepted into a military HPSP program, so the cost is not an immediate concern. I wonder how OUCOM's commitment requirement would work with a HPSP program? Also, I'm interested in dual degree programs. Are any of your suggestions good for research?

I would def call ouhcoms office and ask, they are super friendly.

Are you talking about DO PhD?

Thanks, that's good to know.

Yes, DO/PHD, DO/MS, and DO/MPH.

Yes, DO/PHD, DO/MS, and DO/MPH.

Rocky Vista University has an academic medicine research track that I think
Is very good.

Don't know which one offers an MPH but the AACOMAS CIB handbook should show which ones offer it.

In general if you want to go to a school with good research, FIRST try for MD then for DO use the NIHReporter tool, search then name of the school and see which one has active NIH funding (R or P type grants). If all else fails pick the DO school that is in close proximity to academic hospitals or neighboring MD schools where you can jump onto To find a PI.
