Can anyone share their weather experience in Florida? I know natural events occur in Florida but I'm not sure which areas are more susceptible. I'm looking into UCF, should I be concerned?

Hurricanes can certainly bring some bad weather to Orlando. Not going to have landfall made there but yes you can have severe weather. Do you like the Orlando area? It's a good sized city. Don't know where you are coming from and what kind of weather you are hoping for but Florida can be extremely hot in the summer. 🙂 Did you decide to apply elsewhere in Florida? I hope you have talked to the admission director for UCF because truly, everything I know is that they accept very few out of state students. It's a great program but I would hate to see you spend money to apply to a program that wouldn't fully look at your application because you are out of state. Hopefully they told you different and UCF will look at out of state applications. 🙂 I am currently a first year at another program in Florida so I went through all of it last year. Best of luck.

Just submitted to ptcas this week. Anyone know how long it'll take to hear from schools for interviews? I know most hear within a month but since it's close to the deadlines I feel like it's going to take ages.

I submitted around the end of July, and I still haven't heard anything yet 🙁

I submitted my PTCAS around the end of July last cycle and my first response was from Nova mid November.

I'm coming from the Bay Area (northern California such as San Francisco down to San Jose). Weather is definitely not extreme with snow or storms. We do experience heavy rain falls here and there but lately nothing an umbrella or warm jacket can't handle. Sunshine, incomparable to SoCal but there are warm moments.

And yes I'm also aware of the Florida resident preference. Tuition is more expensive for out-of-state students but incomparable to New York university fees.

My stats are not extremely competitive. Cumulative 3.24, prerequisite GPA depending on how repeated courses are viewed. 151v, 152v, 3.5awa so I'm hesitant. However if I am accepted to UCF I would definitely consider despite the fee.

@pianoidol Not meaning to keep discussing negatives about UCF. And if you have a special reason for wanting to go there, that's great. But if you are just looking at schools, the cost for OOS students there is much more than any other Florida school. UCF charges about $65,000 for the three years for instate and about $145,000 for three years for out of state. In comparison, USF and UF are about $93,000 for OOS for the three years. Nova, a private school is about $88,000 for the three years, and even Miami is about $100,000 tuition. Even St. Augustine, a private school is about $120,000. And Duke is $105,000. U

Not trying to sound so negative. I hope you get in to every school you apply to. Just wanted to make sure you were totally aware of all the costs of UCF in comparison to even many top notch private universities. Just for your info, Texas has some reasonable DPT tuitions, and I know many private universities hover at around the $100,000 mark (which is still a lot). Also, often state universities are more competitive than private schools because people are looking for in state tuition. UCF has a small cohort also, as compared to some other schools.

Just wanted to give you all the info I knew about Florida schools. I am willing to give you any more info you want if I can help. I have lived in Florida for most of my life.

Hi everyone!

I wanted to start a thread for fellow prospective DPT students applying to Florida DPT schools! I'm just about done with my PTCAS app, and am planning on applying to 9 schools: UCF, UF, USF, FGCU, Nova Tampa, Nova Ft. Lauderdale, University of St. Augustine, FIU, and UM (possibly). How is everyone else doing?

I received an acceptance letter from Nova Southeastern Ft. Lauderdale in late September. I applied to 10 schools all over the east coast, but I heard from Nova first. No interview required. I submitted my PTCAS in early July. I will most likely be committing to Nova soon!! Best of luck to you!

I received my acceptance to Nova as well!

I just received an invitation for an early FIU interview! Anyone else hear anything from other schools?

Hi! Has anyone heard any updates from any schools?

I'm pretty sure UNF is supposed to send out interview selections today, has anyone heard from them yet??

Haha same, I wonder if they're going to send them tomorrow instead since it's after 5 now...

Hey!

I actually have an early interview this cycle with Florida International University (FIU) and was wondering if there were any tips you guys can give me prior to my interview day?!

Was there any specific questions you can remember? How are the students/faculty? How many people were at your interview? How long did it take for them to contact you?

and was the decision BINDING?

If you can let me know I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks

Honestly, I am surprised I got an invitation to interview at UM. I have a choice between November 3 or December 1.
Do you guys think it matters how early we interview? I want to choose a later date but I'm not sure if it matters the earlier the better?

I would choose the earlier date, we do start accepting students as early as Dec.

Just got the call for an interview at UCF!

I picked the earlier date, worked with my schedule better, but I don't think it matters.

I received the UM invitation through email and confirmed the date through email.

For those of you applying to UNF, they changed the interview selection date on their website. It looks like they will be letting us know October 27!

Do they only call for UCF? I got a phone call from Florida numbers but its always when I am at work. I wish they emailed instead.

Darn, I already asked for December. I just did not feel ready for the interview because it is my very first one.

I was in class today when I received the original UCF interview invite call and didn't pick up, but they left a message to call them back, so just keep an eye on your voicemail.

My application was complete and sent by October 15th.
They emailed me on the 10/17 saying they are reviewing it. I heard back 6 days later 10/23. They emailed and gave me two dates I can choose from.

I didn’t realize UCF was giving out calls for the first interview. UCF is my top choice and I didn’t receive a call and now I’m a bit nervous :-/

I think UCF spaces out their interview calls based on their dates in that original email they sent us. There's no need to be nervous yet! Still super early.
