Anyone with comments about Florida State's Medical School?
I haven't heard much discussion about FSU.

FSU is a great school. It's shame more students do not know more about FSU. I, myself, went to my FSU interview not expecting much, but their school, students, faculty, really impressed me.
FSU is a new school (only 3 yrs old) and should be considered more by students who are applying. They offer way more clinical experience (from day 1) than UF and even prepare students for the USMLE by their class exams and they give students time off to study for the USMLE. For a new medical school, they have alot to be proud of. For anyone who has visited USF, FSU is very similar.

More clinical time than UF? I doubt it. FSU has, and always will be, a few steps behind UF academically.

 😉 😎

I didn't even apply to FSU's med school. I don't think I could stomach being a semenole.

FSU +pissed+

I have no doubt it will be better than a lot of med schools, but won't ever surpass UF. 😛

Have I made my point or must I go on?

Ah, I love razzing FSU fans.

OK people,

I'd like to know everything everyone has heard about FSU's medical school: the excellent , the good, the bad, and the ugly. Hopefully, I expect no false rumors.

Thanks.🙂

most of what I've heard of FSU's med school has come from this thread. So I basically just know they have a medical school that's new.

I'm a gator alumnae that has also spent some time at FSU (1 year as a postbacc). I found the school to be a refreshing change from the "uptightness and arrogance" of lot of the people I met while at UF. Without a doubt, I'd NEVER return to UF, but if I were still a Fla resident would certainily add FSU to my list.

The attrition rate of minorities at UF versus FSU is still a major concern for me many years after finishing my undergrad degree there.

Even though I am a gator and I cringe at thinking about being a FSU student, still plan on applying there. 🙄

From what I hear they are looking for students who are interested in going into rural family practice medicine. A lot of the curriculum is based around that aspect of medicine. I just worry about the fact that they are only 3 years old and haven?t graduated a class yet. I wonder how the first graduating class will make it in the match.

I interviewed at FSU and was extremely impressed. They do have an extraordinary amount of clinical experience and have state-of-the-art teaching facilities. This will all be incorporated in the new medical school campus they'll have ready in around 2004. And, as a matter of fact, a few of the people who have a lot to do with writing the actual USMLE are strongly affiliated with FSU (i.e. they teach there). So I doubt the first class is going to have too much of a problem passing them. And it's Seminole*, you Gaytor.

Toodles,
Dan

My spelling "error" was very very intentional, as yours obviously was. 😀 To lack a sense of humor is just criminole.

Any more information in favor of or against FSU COM? I still think it's a great school. I think it is hard for someone to judge the school (to put it on a list of worst schools) if that person has never visited or attended the school. I will admit that I prejugded the school and did not expect much from it. But after I visited the school, I decided never to judge a school from what other people say and from unvalidated opinions. I was also told great things about Howard, but when I visited the school, I had different opinions. Anyway, I want to hear it all: the excellent, good, bad, and ugly. 🙂 🙁
