Is it too late in the cycle to send an update letter? I had a recent update with my research project that I believe is closely related to FSU’s mission and would love to send it in but not sure if that’s significant enough to send in lol. Maybe overthinking because I really want to go here but haven’t gotten an interview invite thus far. Keeping hopes up!!

Hello! I was wondering if emailing FSU's admission team to find out general position on getting off of the waitlist or into the BRIDGE program was possible? I know that they probably cannot provide rank on the waitlist but whether they could provide the likelihood of being taken off of it.

anybody know when to expect interviews this week if they are being sent this week?

+1 IS II just now !!

Heartiest congratulations!

As a 502 MCAT score twin, I can only hope FSU blesses me with an II on what is likely their last day to send IIs in two weeks

@FSUAdmissionsOffice If we send an update letter late (I recently sent one with a pretty significant award update), will it be viewed before the committee meets for what is likely their final meeting to administer IIs?

I also sent an update letter detailing new research, MCAT, and extracurricular updates as they fit FSU's mission and my interests closely! It's also my top program, but I haven't gotten an II; it doesn't hurt to try! Best of luck 🙂

Was WL'd to FSU COM a couple weeks ago, what are my odds realistically of getting off?? Is there expected to be a large WL movement going on?? I know schoalrahips come out later but is anyone who has an an A thinking about other schools??

I am also curious about waitlist movement. I know FSU usually has some, but I’m wondering when that begins and if we are able to get any idea of where we stand on the waitlist

Typically state and public schools have a very little wait list movement compared to a private school.

would next week be the last week of II going out?? assuming since latest batch in this thread was feb25th ??

Hey everyone,

The last batch of interview invites should be going out today. Though the large group invites are over, we will still be filling in interview spots as applicants withdraw or decline their interview invites.

Thanks everyone, let me know if you have any additional questions.

is anyone else devastated they didn't get an II? i wanted to go home so bad (tlh native, fsu alum, my fam & partner there).
Also quite sad as I considered myself a strong mission fit (wanting to serve underserved communities through primary care) and really resonated with FSU COM's unique program focus from those on admissions I've interacted with (I toured and thought the campus was really nice; enjoyed learning more about the student culture from the tour as well!). I also have family ties, friends/family who are current students, and mentors who graduated with high praise for the program. Would love to be part of the class of 2030 or Bridge Program, but nonetheless, going to continue to hold out hope for individual interviews to stay optimistic haha. Hang in there, I hope you are doing well!!

I am pretty upset, yes. Especially since I really wanted to go into rural medicine. I talked about it all in my application. I have no idea why I never got an interview invite.

Seeming like a lot of alum weren't interviewed this year. Based on data I saw from admit.org, lots of lower stat applicants did receive interviews though? Neither myself nor a single one of my friends who were also alum & within (or above) their avg stat range with strong holistic, mission fit applications received interviews either. Very disappointing! Maybe their mission really doesn't actually have anything to do with rural health/primary care ...

one of the past threads FSU COM mentioned they intake a lot of UF and UCF premed folks. Probably they consider those candidates are superior than their Alumni.
Dont worry if you didn't get an ii maybe you are destined for a better school. All the best. As the saying "one door closes the other opens"

I could maybe understand UF, but FSU is ranked above UCF as far as undergrad institutions go in FL. Either way, most public state schools (obvi besides FSU) show at least some priority to their own alum. It should disincentivize incoming undergrads who want to go the pre med route from going to FSU, or at the very least, partaking in programs (like IMS) that are advertised as a pipeline to med school (fsu com specifically) when they are, in fact, not. Either way, it should matter less about where an applicant goes (unless they went to a super prestigious university like an Ivy) and more about everything that they bring to the table, with basic stats like gpa/mcat, as what opens the door to their application being seriously considered. It does not seem like fsu follows that logic to me.

As a mission fit UF alum this is not true

Greetings,

Thank you for your email and interest in the FSU College of Medicine.

The FSU COM is happy to receive updates throughout the Admissions Cycle, but please remember to submit any updates as attached PDFs.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please let us know.

Just wanted to say, these kind of generic responses are extremely unhelpful. Applicants like myself and others are finalizing their plans as the cycle comes to an end. When we ask for transparency about IIs and where we stand, the least your admissions office could do is actually read the emails we take time to write.
Also recently emailed asking a very simple question and got a generic, likely auto generated response that completely beat around the bush of what the question asked, within 5 mins of sending my email. It's getting incredibly frustrating at this point.

Your application is still under review by our Admissions Committee. Invitations to interview are sent out on a weekly rolling basis until the end of March.

Unfortunately, we are not able to provide feedback until our Admissions Cycle fully wraps up in June. Applicants may reach out to this email address at that time to request feedback on their application, and we will provide that feedback as soon as we are able.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please let us know.

Looks like they’re still sending interviews until the end of March.

@FSUAdmissionsOffice I have a small question. While at work today I received a phone call from the Tallahassee area but I was unable to pick it up. I have been feeling anxious on if it is some sort of post-interview update or anything related to it. Do you ever contact students via phone? If you so, would you leave a voicemail? Thank you!

Hi all,

  • We typically send out 30 interview invites at a time; so what I meant with my last message, was that this was not going to happen anymore. I will only be inviting 1 or 2 at a time as folks decline interviews. Does that make sense?
  • As for many of the other, somewhat disparaging comments: we received in excess of 4,000 COMPLETED applications this cycle that we have to screen, review, and interview. Respectfully, you all truly don't know what our committee sees or what is actually contained in those thousands of applications. You may believe, (using what data, I don't know,) that we are not mission-aligned, but that is false. We are proud of our process, the students selected, and the physicians we educate.
  • The generic email is generic because it has to be right now. We are in an active cycle and do not share any detailed information with active applicants until we have released final decisions. What are the expectations here?
  • We do not communicate with applicants via phone, so no, we would not call applicants; we communicate via email, to make sure there is a record of what we have told applicants.
  • Applicants who have not heard about a decision from a late February interview need to contact our office. All decisions through our 3/5 & 3/6 interviews have been sent out.
I know there are lots of strong feelings during this time, and we are here to answer questions as we are able.

Best,

FSU COM Office of Admissions

Yes, this is my point on why I said some of you guys were salty. Admissions offices in general are very busy, especially FSU since their application review is extremely thorough. Some of the comments earlier were a little heavy-handed.

When is the very last day you all will send out IIs?

The expectation here is transparency throughout the process. As we near the end of the cycle, many of us are finalizing our plans or reapplying. Transparency would be appreciated by all applicants. Thanks.

I may be remembering incorrectly and if so please correct me, but at one of the interview sessions you mentioned that as the waitlist gets motion you will let people know if they have a high chance of being given an offer, is that true? Could you say about when the motion happens on the waitlist or when you sit down to review it? I have another slightly more personal question I would like to ask, is it okay to shoot you a private message? Thank you as always, your help and clarifications are always appreciated!

I think some of yall need a bit of perspective. It’s very rare for an admissions committee to be this transparent, and I don’t see any other schools in Florida or really anywhere else doing this. That’s something to appreciate even if you don’t agree with every decision. The idea that FSU students aren’t being accepted just isn’t true. There are lots of FSU students in the accepted students group. As for the number of UF students, UF has one of the biggest premed populations in the state, and their students end up as the majority at pretty much every medical school in Florida. At the end of the day, none of us are on the admissions committee, so we don’t know the full picture. But the school has been around for 25 years and has only gotten stronger, so it’s fair to say they know what they’re doing.
