Ugh. I'm feeling pretty annoyed today. Our clinic has a newer nursing manager whose been here for like 6 months. I just got word that our good receptionist is transferring to another facility. This is two months after losing another really good one that had been here since I started. We're also losing MAs rapidly. The new nursing manager is overworking and making the receptionists and MAs lives hell. She refuses to pay over time... It annoying because, I like our receptionists, and we finally have them "trained up" for all the providers various preferences.

Losing good support staff is no fun. RE: the bolded, are people working overtime and she's not paying them extra for it, or is she refusing to allow overtime in the first place?

Refusing to allow overtime. It can be things like Dr. X wants to start clinic right at 8am. So it'd be nice to have someone here at 7:30 so everyone is roomed at 8. But to do that, we'd need to have someone come in and get a half hour of over time.

Ah, understood. Heaven forbid they pay 30 mins at 1.5x to help the clinic run smoothly for the rest of the day.

Short week as it was (off for 25th wedding anniversary earlier in week), still cutting out early today to relax. Playoff hockey this evening. First live concert in almost 2 years tomorrow- Dinosaur Jr. Playing at a local Drive-In. I'm extremely pumped up for the show. Really missed such things over the past year.

Went for an awesome hike on Wednesday (14 miles, 4200 ft elevation gain, boulder field scramble in active snow!), so taking it a bit easier this weekend. Hoping to get a few good workouts in and write some promotional material for a startup I’m working on.

Got a revise and resubmit accepted in a pretty big journal, so that's a win.

Excited Season 2 GIF by The Office

Tomorrow I have to conduct 6 hours of clinical supervision (three 60-minute individual supervision sessions and two 90-minute group sessions), almost back-to-back (one 45-minute break in there). Thank goodness this summer teaching is almost paying for a year's worth of rent, because I'm sort of exhausted thinking about it.

Also, got article 92 accepted today!

Are we all invited to this inflatable water slide and bouncy house party for for @futureapppsy2? Will @WisNeuro be providing the beer hook up? I mean I could use this after over a year of sitting at home. What better way to celebrate the progress of science and publication than by dumbing down many great minds with booze?

We should also get a mechanical bull!

Isn't that just Las Vegas?

A bunch of people getting sloppy and acting stupid with no input or consideration for the person being celebrated? Seems like every Vegas bachelor party I have ever been to.

Reverse seared a nice steak today for dinner after a personal best distance run.

Had some final committee/service stuff at the college for the last time this academic year in the morning. Clinical work has been very intense lately. May need an early summer vacation.

Child number 2 graduated High School yesterday, so doing some related things this weekend. Feels good (but strange) to be at all these big events with other people after so long in isolation.

Summer semester starts this week. I'm teaching a new (to me) course, so need to spend some time with it this weekend. It's actually a section of course and I'm at a sattelite campus. Somebody else designed the course and put together the materials. I find that can be more difficult (though certainly less work) than when I've developed the course.

Today is drinks, hanging out by the water, and dinner with a group of friends. Tomorrow, a morning cycle ride, some committee work, and dinner with friends visitng from out of town. Making up for those COVID antisocial tendencies.

Today has been taxes and paperwork, but it's about to be drinks. Tomorrow is supposed to be a long run, meeting up for brunch, followed by more work. Got two new books incoming, and another that I'm trying to finish.

I am getting up at 4:15 tomorrow to ride to meet my brother in law at 5am. I was on my bike at 5:40 today. Summer is starting to get hot here, so I gotta beat the heat. We cleaned out our MCM wall unit from the guest bedroom. My wife got it for me in grad school as a birthday present. The seller had it on craigslist forever because they misspelled teak as teek. We're selling it to make room for child #2 which is due in December. Today was a perfect day.

My 2.5 year old started throwing up at 10pm last night. Checked his temp and it was normal. Threw up and wined all night long. I didn't get hardly any sleep. Like maybe 1 or 2 hours. Poor dude was so sad. We thought it was grandma giving him too much sweets, but he cracked a 103 degree fever this morning. I'm kicking myself for not checking his temp throughout the night. I could have administered Tylenol sooner and bet we all would have slept better.

Thankfully today shouldn't be too clinically demanding. I hope for no-shows. If I don't come down with a stomach bug, I might take my road bike up to cooler weather and cowboy camp and ride and meet up with some friends Saturday. I foresee an 8pm bedtime tonight for the household. As an aside, we selected a puppy. So in December, we will have an infant, a 6 month old puppy, and a toddler. Should be exciting!

Wife and I headed up to Mt. Desert Island (Maine) camping for two weeks. We'll have first week to ourselves, then kids will join us for second week after spending week at home without us. In other words, there will likely be parties at my house all week, if your're looking for something to do!

I’m in Maine right now too! Taking a three week trip from here down to PA to visit all the family/friends I haven’t seen since 2019 or earlier. What a beautiful time of year in the northeast!

Ended up having to unexpectedly buy a house due to an unplanned change with SO’s family circumstances which was absolutely the LAST thing I wanted to do in this real estate market. Extremely relieved that our first offer was accepted! Small miracle and makes for a weekend filled with gratitude and relief.

A weekend update instead of a Friday one, but I got up on one waterski today for the first time after not having skied at all for a few years and was very excited!!

Happy Father’s Day to all!

It's supposed to pour all weekend, but if it doesn't, going to a "Yappy Hour" with adoptable puppies and telling myself I won't take one.

don't let that kind of negativity into your life 😉
I defended my dissertation and had my final internship evaluation this week. No one has figured out that I'm an unworthy imposter yet. *evil cackle*
Congrats! Go celebrate

As for me its time to learn Firefly the Board game and spend time with the doggo alone, awaiting the brother in law's arrival on Tuesday to help him unpack their moving truck (i.e., have a beer and watch people to unpack it for us because no one over 30 should consider doing it themselves).

This woman I've been seeing and I decided to make our relationship official. She's super-supportive of the insanity of academia, and the way it can eat my time some days/weeks, so yay!

Kudos! I can imagine it's awesome to find that person who can stomach those manuscript/grant deadline weeks!

Weren't you just in Maine? You get around, don't you?
I was! I live on the west coast, though. I'm from the east coast and was enjoying a nice vacation of seeing everyone I haven't seen since before the pandemic. Taking the summer off before starting grad school helps a lot with the getting around, plus almost everything I'm excited to do is outdoor-related.

A ton of the forests where I want to go are closed because of fire danger 🙁

Trying to get motivated to get some end of the week billing done, then headed downtown to check out some art galleries w. some friends. Not sure where we are getting dinner, and then off to some live music. I was out a couple weeks ago (roof top bar) w. some friends and it was the first live music I had heard in over a year. I definitely am trying to make up for lost time.

Looking forward to more live music this summer. One concert already post-covid, and few more good options nearby (including walking distance from home) this summer- Jeff Tweedy, Roots, King Crimson.

Enjoy your evening.
