I had a root canal yesterday from a cracked filling and that I had been putting of the dentist because of COVID. On a positive note, the dentist was really cool and personable. I let him know that lidocaine tends to wear off pretty quick. He really numbed me out. I've got very little pain and discomfort today.
 
Glad it's Friday. My bike is in the shop for a few weeks (it's got a weird bottom bracket) and I am dreading another peloton ride on the weekend when I should be out soaking up some sun and feeling the wind on my face. I slipped on my diet and got back to my starting weight, so I'm gonna be pretty strict this weekend regarding calorie counting and easter brunch. Hopefully I can get the bike tomorrow.
 
Got some in-laws visiting from out of state for a socially distanced lunch gathering this weekend. It'l be the first time in a year that we have had such visitors, and thus will require a level of house cleaning that has not been done in many a moon. Any recommendations on a good accompanying brew for scrubbing toilets?

Hopslam. We also have family visiting. But everyone is vaccinated, so we are not distancing, at least within the family.

I'll search it out. I occasionally see Bells stuff out here and have Two Hearted (i am, afterall, a fly fisherman and thusxa sucker for certain types of can art)

Hmm, that is a strong beverage for ongoing physical activity. I would go for a sipping beer like Bluepoint Toasted Lager or Allagash White. Maybe a Scheider Aventinus Doppel for a finisher to celebrate being done.

Dude, I love Bell's so much. I've got a great story. When my wife and I were just barely dating, we went to go see Greensky Bluegrass. We had at this point in our lives, like no money. We were both so early into grad school and hadn't even moved in together. Anyway, the tickets were much more expensive than I thought they were gonna be (it was supposed to be like 20, but ended up being like double that for each of us). Anyway, we decided it was worth it and could swing it. But, we decided not to have any drinks to save some money. In comes Lary Bell (the owner of Bells). Greensky is apparently their house band and he funded their first albums. It was a fluke they just happened to be in the same town on tour. He bought the ENTIRE VENURE free Bells beers for the entire night.

I talked with him, he's a cool guy. I still buy Bells whenever I see it like ten years later. I love Lager of the Lakes, Oberon, Offical (their hazy ipa), and pooltime.

Just ventured out to the local "packy" as we call them in these parts. They were out of Hopslam. Guy said they only get it shipped to them in January, and it goes pretty quickly. They had Oberon and Two Hearted. At his suggestion for something similar, I am currently sipping a Dreadnaught (Imperial IPA) by 3 Floyd's in Indiana. It's very good, but at 9.4 It's kinda not putting me in the mood to scrub latrines. I also got a pack of Landbier (a dunkel) by Schillings in Littleton NH (great brewery to visit, if you get a chance, in a great town) in anticipation of a) wanting a second or third beverage this evening; and b) not thinking it would be a great idea for that second or third to be an Imperial.

remember when we could safely go to concerts? My favorite band (Dinosaur Jr.) is back on tour soon, and will be finishing the tour at my hometown theater (they are a local band) next November. We'll be done with all this Covid stuff by then, right?
 
If you’re somewhere that Oregon beers will reach, my go-to is generally a 10Barrel Pearl IPA, maybe a Buoy IPA, or anything by Fort George. Their Vortrx is fantastic. (I’ve also been told I like old man drinks so YMMV)

Doesn't look like 10 barrel or Fort George distribute anything in my area. I have Rogue, of course. My nephew is a brewer at Block 15 in Corvallis, and some of his stuff was very good (lots of belgian stuff- tripels and quads)

Block 15 is pretty damn good. One of the more popular NW breweries. If I had family working there I'd be convincing them to send me beer packages every month. I'm a big fan of their Belgian stuff but the hopheads love their hoppy stuff.

This brewery is new on my radar, they recently hit the selves in a neighbor state. I've heard positive things and next time I get a chance I will be picking up their stuff.

I'll be the Debbie Downer on Hopslam. Way more hype than quality or to be less judgemental it is way too sweet (and boozy) for my taste. It still a big hit but the demand (at least in my area) has slowly diminished. Used to sell out in a day or two but nowadays can take a few weeks.

No beer for me till next week but love to see people talking about it. Cheers!

I kind of agree. I'm a midwesterner, so it's pretty easy to get, relatively speaking. But I have a craving for it now and then. I'm more likely to want a Two-Hearted.

Schilling's makes some good stuff. Lots of classic, well done German and Czech styles, plus Belgians. What area of the country are you in? Curious how far out they are distributing from New England.

I'm really digging Dreadnought Imperial IPA. Of course it's very hoppy (mainly citra, I'm guessing), but also very noticeable malt and, of course, alcohol flavors, all pretty well balanced.

I still haven't cleaned that toilet yet!

I’m in the Mid-Atlantic.

3Floyds recently hit around here as well. Though, I haven’t been a fan of that beer for a while. FWIW, I spend way more time posting on beer forums than in SDN, so I have lots of opinions 😁

That makes sense then, that you have schillings available reasonably close. I'm pretty psyched because Tree House is moving their operation a few towns over from me.

We're hiring psychologists, so as long as you're licensed eligible and not obviously messed up in some one (like showing up to interview in jeans, or obviously drunk/stoned) you could work and live near Tree House too! There's even a place nearby that gets Alchemist stuff.

Tree House is currently only an hour or so away, but by the time you get there and wait in line, it's hit or miss as to what's left. They're moving to a big place with a large "campus" and outdoor spaces for performances and hanging out. It used to be the Channing Bete company, where they made informational booklets and brochures- think the booklets you got when you did CPR classes 20 years ago. Victim of the pdf age and online trainings.

I've got my first attempt at tepache going. I'm pretty excited! Anyone ever try to brew kombucha or tepache?
 
I am intrigued by the separate hobbies under the umbrella of bullet journaling. I currently like looking at what other people have come up with. I'm curious about acquiring all the fun little bits and pieces to make a journal. However, I'm not sold on actually making and using one.
 
Got 7 lambics lined up for a tasting this weekend. I'm giddy with anticipation.

Not those fake lambic (e.g. the common Lindemans). Mostly oude lambics (Cantillon, Mort Subite etc) with no artificial sweeteners.
 
Watching some premier league this morning, then yard stuff. We have a little utility shed that holds rakes and shovels and such, under which I believe a family of skunks has taken residence. I'm going to try to tip up and uncover the den, so hopefully they'll take off and I can fill it in and critter proof it. Assuming I don't reek too much from the adventuresxin skunk town, I'm heading to a bonfire birthday celebration with a friend tonight. I got him him a bottle of Angels Envy. A much better friend than I got him a Middleton Very Rare 2019. Looking forward to a sip or two. Alma mater is playing in college hockey championship game tonight, so hopefully some additional reason to be celebrating.

Your nephew does great work. Block 15 is the s*** If you're ever in Corvallis, I'll also put a pretty strong plug in for Burrito Heaven. It's a tiny place that makes the absolute best tacos I've ever had..and I've traveled in Latin America.

Ngl, when I visited a friend in Eugene a couple of summers ago, I totally made time to see all the Simpsons stuff in Springfield. No ragrets, not even one letter (I hope someone gets that reference!).

Picking up my new (to me at least) truck this afternoon. With basically 4 adults living here and the need to get to school and back to work outside the house (soon, hopefully) 2 vehicles was getting pretty difficult to schedule. I've always wanted a small pick-up (it's a 2015 Tacoma), but its so hard to find them used.

I pre-ordered a pack of a hoppy red ale and Hellas lager from the local brewery, so I'll be good to go for the weekend.
 
I love a Tacoma. Its on the short list of things to buy for our house. The lack of used ones makes it a slower jump for me, but I suspect i'll lean in within the next 2-3 years.

The last two weeks has been a lot of house work. Installed a gun safe, putting down 8 yards of pea gravel in the backyard, and building some legos. Happy to say I'm now the proud owner of an AT-AT, the falcon, and the cantina. This is why we work, right? Birthday next week and family visiting, followed by family doing some house hunting for a soon-move to the area across country. Should be a busy end to the semester.

It always pays to have a truck around. I love my F-150 and will keep it no matter what other vehicles I purchase.
 
I'll start it. I'm going up to the in laws cabin! Should be a blast. I found a mine marker last time, and I saw a TikTok that says there is often paperwork in them. So I'm gonna check that out to see how old the claim is. Might do some some shed hunting and bourbon buying.
