Friday thread

I am so dumb to this. But basically, you want a vehicle over 6000 pounds?
I just gave you the keys to getting a free car, citing two search terms. There are lists, like I referenced which include cars over $100k. I think that’s enough from me. You have to do some of your own work, so you can explain this to your CPA.

@borne_before, aren't you a w-2 employee? Pretty sure you need qualifying business for section 179 to apply. Also, I believe bonus depreciation is limited to 80% as of 2023.

I am w2, but I could also do some rez contracting - where I'd need to drive a lot...

Just know, that similar to the home office deduction, this will significantly increase chances of an audit. Look up the documentation you need to keep on an ongoing basis first.

Been doing some "extra" clinical supervision (ABA) in the past few weeks. My favorite part of supervising is how it (a) challenges me to actually know what I'm talking about and (b) inspires me to seek out the answers when I, in fact, am not really sure what I'm talking about. That leads into the "Friday Thread" nature of this post. I try not to schedule direct client stuff on Fridays and use it for report writing/admin catch-up, etc. (all stuff that I can do during other evenings/early mornings during the week, thus giving me more free time on Fridays). Some issues came up in a recent session that I wanted some clarification on (actually proof that I remembered stuff correctly and wasn't just talking out my butt to appear smart to a supervisee).oday, I used the first hour to research these topics (for those of you playing along at home- effects of intertrial intervals on skill acquisition; stimulus blocking/overshadowing). It really is amazing to me that in the first hour of the day, from my office (though it could be from anywhere with an internet connection), I can find, download, print out, and briefly review 10+ research articles. I know- this sounds like and "old man" post about how "we had it rough in my day", but finding and printing out 10+ articles when I was in graduate school (in this century, albeit the early years) would have taken me an entire afternoon and required a drive to at least one, and maybe even two, libraries, as well as cost me about 10 buck in copy fees (more when you factor in that I probably would have forgotten my copy card in the machine with several dollars worth of copies still left on it). I can also now share the articles with the supervisee who will be by the office later, thus potentially making her better informed/equipped, and- most importantly- increasing the likelihood that the client will make progress in upcoming sessions. This is probably every day, boring stuff for a lot of you, and it is pretty much that for me. But it's still pretty cool when you think about it.

Oh- and I confirmed that I wasn't talking out my butt either, though what identified in this case as "stimulus blocking" is probably better conceptualized as "stimulus overshadowing".

My boy started kindergarten this week and I did my first drop off with him. He confidently walked through the gate and turned the corner. I watched him walk out to the playground. He put his stuff down and I called to him through the bars. He ran over and wanted me to grab his hand through the fence. We did the ASL sign for love and he walked away to the playground, climbed up the slide, and attempted to muster the courage for the fire pole before giving up and climbing down another feature. I last saw him crouch and inspect something under the playground with a buddy. I went back to my car and felt some emotions. It was harder on me. He's got this independent little life now.

Department meeting, division meeting, grading. Friday is my ivory tower day lol

Academic GIF

It's finally starting to feel like fall. It's my favorite time of year.
I got to go to the White Mountains in New England for a wedding a few weekends ago during peak foliage and it's kept me going all month. Having a Halloween costume-themed co-birthday party with a friend tonight and looking forward to some nice whiskey and convincing people to watch horror movies with me.

a. Saturday conducting an IME+ writing 3 more IME reports.
b. Sunday: finishing up some academic writings, some preweek market analysis stuff, and booking some work travel stuff.
c. Psygal is making me go to some pumpkin patch after work.

I had a seminar this morning that I completely spaced and as a result arrived late and completely unprepared (mentally I mean, I do this every year so the slides were ready to go and I had updated them recently too). Great start to my day, haha

Random question:

Do you ever put non-psychology related skills and training on your CV? Like, I'm a trained singer and even have gotten paid to sing - is that something I'd include, or not?

Personally, I am not adding anything non-psych related to the my CV that an opposing counsel will somehow try to use in an adversarial way.

I have a "personal accomplishments" section on my CV where I have a couple of select accomplishments listed, and note a few hobbies that I think contribute to my professional work. Interviewers don't always comment on it, but when they have the feedback has always been positive.

Meeting with builders tomorrow to begin the interview process of building our custom home for the lot we purchased two years ago. Have the architect down to one of two (maybe three). Hoping to green light the project in the new year but so many variables to consider. Trying to stay optimistic and excited.

I'm early.

Tyler the Creator, Doechii, and GloRilla have been on heavy rotation.

I hope Kendrick will drop something next year.

Packing for the upcoming Thanksgiving road trip this weekend. Car is going to be full this year.

I'm 92% sure my friend gave me a cold. Right on time for the weekend too

My Korean drama is preempted this weekend because they need to air news coverage of the recent political developments. Nooo!

Who was the first?
Will Rothschild. It's a complicated story where he was pretending to be a Rothschild, I think. It's a rabbit hole to go down if you have any no-shows.

Still a better survival rate than Russian oligarchs, who have a habit of falling from large buildings.
Falling out of high windows is Russia’s version of “school shootings”. The same event seem to happen over and over again, yet everyone just accepts that it happens and just hopes it doesn’t happen to them.

I did see something about that but I assumed he was a conman. Since, I do have a no show....I will be on google.

The one that really struck me was that ballerino. Like, am I supposed to believe a professional dancer is that clumsy?
