GEMS Georgetown 2009-2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
here's to hoping that today is the day!! Best wishes to all!

I just want to wish everyone a great week and good luck!

Happy Monday! Best of luck to everyone! Stay positive 🙂

So if they started to look at applications since monday last week,

wouldn't each member of the faculty board have to read 40 applications including recommendations? ( if there were ~200 that applied)

i would expect for some to hear today, since the first round of interviews are on the 20th??

I sure hope so.

By the way, while we are all praying for a an invitation for an interview and a successful admission into the GEMS program, let us all say a prayer for those who are in Italy right now. Many have perished during and after a 6.3 earthquake. Rescue is still underway and let us all pray for the rescuers safety as well.

i really wish they would tell us when interview invites will be going out!

nothing here... i wonder if the current students know when they will start calling..

Is the first interview date set for sure on Apr 20? When is the second date in May? Still waiting here too...trying to stay positive.

total= 24 students reported applying ( that have not had a call for an interview yet.)

There is a also a slight chance that none of us got called for interviews (on student doctor network) even if others started getting called on friday. It happened last year...

on the other hand, maybe admissions are late..

Well, although what you say may be true (that no one on SDN got invited to the interview if GEMS started calling last Friday). There is also the possibility that we are the 24 lucky ones who will be invited to the GEMS interview and than eventually becomes admitted to the program.

Let us all be optimistic and be patient as well. GEMS Program's admission committee have been reviewing applications for many, many years and they are obviously experts at knowing who will be best fitting for the program. Let us all trust our application and trust that the GEMS Program's admission committee will do what they do best.

Be optimistic because we can all speculate about what might be happening right now, but truthfully, no one does unless you are directly involved with the admission decision. By guessing around and suggesting theories without knowing what is really happening do not really help anyone and may actually hurt some of us. Just have faith and be patient. 🙂

Good luck to everyone once again! Tomorrow is another day. :xf::luck:

Just sit back, trust your application and trust that the GEMS Program's admission committee will do what they do best.

as i mentioned, there is only a slight chance that NONE of the 24 people sample got called(~.02%)
so virtually a 99% chance that 1 of the 24 will be called.
And, a .00000000003% chance that all 24 of us will be called : )

Thus it's more likely that they haven't started calling yet ( considering if the 24 people would report if they got called)

I don't necessarily believe in pessimism or optimism.
If you are christian, the only thing one can really have faith or hope in is that God will be carry out his plans for you. What that plan is though is still the same in mystery. So we can't all get carried away with hope or dread.

Hey ragstoMD, I do not disagree with what you have said above or in any of your posts at all. I like to approach things in a positive note and I like to remain optimistic. Of course, I am also realistic.

I was simply trying to contribute what I felt by sharing my perspective and perhaps, help calm others who may be more nervous than I am. 🙂

Since none of us have heard anything, let us all hope for the best and good luck to you as well. :xf:

:luck::xf: to all and hopefully everyone gets a 👍.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. But I received a call last Friday around lunch time. We were told not to say a thing on any internet forums, thus is why I created a new name to relay this message to you guys. Best of luck to you all and I hope to see you on the day of the interview! :luck:

Thank you very much for the information! Good luck at the interview!

BEst of luck Plasticwatch. LOL nice name.

Hey guys, could we interpret that request for silence as maybe many of last year's posters actually got /interviewed accepted but didnt post due to this request? I know you guys had mentioned no one from 2008's thread was int'd.

Why don't they want them saying anything on the internet forums about getting an interview?

Because then everybody who hasn't been called for an interview will start calling them at the office. That would interrupt the selection process even more if the phone rings every few minutes with someone asking about interviews.

I know they should have their right to privacy in terms of the admission process. However, for asking 130$ from "disadvantaged" students ( that is 26,000 $dollars total from all 200 of us), I guess I was hoping that they would be more informative to possible inquiries of the process especially in the light of dangling such a hope of such a great program for down on luck students such as ourselves.

As in, I hope they will give a 130$ (or at least a decent) reason why people werent called..

Hey Ischemic, that makes perfect sense and it is logical!

Thank you!

Good Morning Everyone,

Today is another day and perhaps more will receive the good news. Remain positive and what ever is meant to happen will happen.

Good luck once again everyone :luck::xf:.

Not a good idea to email or call about invitations. Below is an excerpt from the website. Judging by those caps in "NOT", it would be wise to not call.
Please Note: Staff will NOT provide information regarding timelines or status for invitation to interview.

For questions on admissions procedures or other inquiries, please e-mail [email protected]
For questions on admissions file status only

Hey guys,

I was kidding about the interview offer. Figured it would be nice to help you guys lighten up. 😀 Anyhow, I hope we'll get an answer today. Good luck everyone! 👍

Congrats!! Everyone please post as soon as you get THE call. This is exciting like the NBA draft.

haha it is exciting.

One major difference:

NBA rookies in the first round get lots of money if they are selected ..to play basketball

If we get selected, we get to pay 20,000$.. to study!

yippeee!

Yeah, but it'd be totally worth it in the long run. I'm really hoping to hear something good.

Right on brother. I am in your same boat. I would be the happiest man in the universe if G-town accepted me but will work my butt off at UMDNJ's SMP to make this work. I will focus all of this rejection frustration on those midterms.

Sometimes you lose sight of all the good things you have going for you.

congrat David L!

um...why are you congratulating me? Do you know something I don't know?

I am confused?

I was merely congratulating Webster82 for his subject line about being called this morning.

I am so CONFUSED.

Guess not. Those GEMS people are such a tease. 😛

haha!

PlasticWatch: You are a tease as well. You got me all startled with your earlier post. You have a unique sense of humor.

🙂

Everyone hang in there. =0)

We all worked hard and we are all adamant about becoming a physician. Perseverance counts a whole lot in my experience and so don't give up! =)

Wait, that call wasn't real?

OnTheFly: Thank you. I'll take that as a compliment. 🙂

I concur with OnTheFly. Just look at a male pigeon circling a female pigeon the next time you see a flock.
