GEMS Georgetown 2009-2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Wait, that call wasn't real?

Earlier i congratulated Webster82 with his/her subject headline stating that he/she was called this morning. Then soon after, PlasticWatch congratulated me.

I wasn't sure how to respond to that one and it got me all startled. I figure he/she must have known something that I didn't and that is why I asked "why he/she was congratulating me".

PlasticWatch is confusing everyone. Yikes! 😕

Anyhow, it is all good, fun and games, but some people may not take the humor the same way. Let us be respectful and let us all remain positive.

🙂

I apologize if I have made anyone upset. I'm sure most of us will get in. Chillax! 😀

I'm beginning to call shenanigans on the phone calls. I haven't heard anything from other threads or forums.

Flow: What other forums/threads are there? I'd like to monitor those too.

Hey Flownominal, don't get too flustered by the random posts. I was startled myself by the earlier post. in the end, its best to just laugh it off and remain focused and positive. Perhaps, we will all be in the same class. Until GEMS tells us otherwise, keep the hopes up =)

I'll try. I don't think I've worked harder on any other application in my life. I really see another chance to stay in the US with GEMS. I'm going to pray about it and that everyone here gets an interview.

Congrats to everyone getting interviews!

I have for a while, but I was concerned with the ability to practice one day in most African countries. As of now, I think only Nigeria allows you to practice medicine with a DO.

I really think that DO will some day be:

1) relabelled to MDO
2) be widely accepted through other nations
3) convert it to MD through some program. (LOL)

I just got the call! My interview is on May 4th! Yay I'm so happyyyyy : )

And until that day comes, sadly, I cannot see DO schools as an option.

That's great!

Hopefully any minute now... I paid my phone bill just for the chance to hear something.

LOL. Like wise. Though i'm at work stuck in the basement with no cell reception. I hope they leave voicemails. 😛

To those who have received interview invites,
What cities do you live in? Just wondering if they are calling those who live further away in an effort to give them time to make travel arrangements. I live in Maryland but I hope they call soon!

My location: Philadelphia area.

Congrats PlasticWatch!
Thanks for answering my question everyone. I live like 30 to 45 minutes from Georgetown so I was just wondering if they give the first calls to applicants who live further away. Who knows? I'm going to keep praying!!🙂

16:02: Phone vibrates, it's a 202 number...
Mr. Taylor: "Hello is this [Flownominal]?"
Me: "Yes, that's me"

16:04: "Well, I'm calling you to notify that we have completed a preliminary review of your application, and we would like to invite you for an interview..."

Me: *drop*
Mr. Taylor: "Are you okay?"
Me playing it cool: "Sure."

I actually hung up on him cuz my reception is horrible, so I ran up 2 flights to the lobby and called him back.

Did they start calling your cell phone or your home phone?

I think they call whatever contact number you have on your application.

Could it be that they are calling folks on the east coast first? I'm a hopeful.

Lovedg- Yes, let us pray together!!🙂 Hope we all get a call soon!

I didn't know that... I thought they only went to Philly, I've always used them to get there in a relatively short time. I've never given Amtrak or Greyhound another dime after discovering them. Also, It should be a relatively short travel to them, as I live near the D train.

Congratulations to those who have received interviews. All of you should be very proud of your accomplishments 🙂

Has anyone from the DC area received an invitation yet? Wondering if they're calling long distance applicants first. Also, if we don't hear from them by the end of this week, is it still probable that we will receive a phone call next week?

It appears that they are calling the east coast and going westward...

The website says that 61% who are interviewed for GEMS are accepted and that nearly 80% of GEMS alumni were granted admission to G-Town.

I like the odds!

I wonder what happened to that other 20% that did GEMS but did not get in.

I like those odds too... but from what I understand, the brochure says that most of the 20% were admitted to other medical schools. Also, I thought one of the letters said 85%.
