I got my first interview last night and then had a bunch of ancillary questions regarding the scheduling process that I didnt really know the answer too... so here goes.

1) Does scheduling an earlier interview make any difference?

2) Do residency directors care if you select "Do Not Waiver" on slors?

3) I currently have 3 letters in (2 non EM, 1 EM SLOR), as I get in 1 more SLOR and 1 more EM letter, should I send those out as I get them?

4) Do residency directors care if I send an enthusiastic email telling them about how much I like their program and would like to interview? - I ask this because I may want to stay local and would love to tell the programs I'm into how much I like them.

I know these questions are generally pretty specific - however these could apply to a lot of other people and most definitely un-searchable.

i don't think so, earlier in the year people are more energetic and by the end both interviewees and programs are quite tired. however, if you make a strong impression late in the game it can be a good thing b/c you're fresh in people's mind during ranking.

2) Do residency directors care if you select "Do Not Waiver" on slors?

it's preferable, just like any other letter of recommendation

i'd send out the EM one if you can only send 4 total

i'd send a letter to a couple of programs that i'm particularly interested in. if you're on the fence it can only help, but only if it's genuine.

1. Not really.
2. Quite possibly. Best to waiver.
3. Yes
4. Does't hurt but its to early to do this. Wait until November. Many won't offer until dean's letters are in.

Thank you much guys I really really appreciate it.

One last question actually:

I've got 2 SLOR's one from the chairman of my home school, one another programs residency director. I was going to ask my clerkship director for a letter as well and was wondering if it would be preferable to get a SLOR or a regular LOR?

Thanks!

Where did u get a interview invite from?

Just the place I did an away at (no biggie), I'd rather not post it out here simply because I dont want to advertise that kind of information. PM me if you're reeeally curious.

Thanks!

I have one interview invite as well, but it is because I am scheduled for an away rotation there. At least I know I will have ONE... 🙂

On the other hand, unlike some of you out there, I haven't gotten any messages on ERAS from anywhere, and 10 programs have yet to even download my app. And I would know because I'm obsessed with checking several times per day.

Looks like there are 2 with invites already so are we ready yet to start up the 2009 thread for interview offers or will that freak everyone out this early? Buckle your seatbelts, won't be long now!

I say we postpone. Some of my classmates are freaking now to the point where I wont tell my friends (non-EM people), because I know if I do they'll start hyperventilating (I have a few sensitive friends).

Wow, I am impressed. How many days after submitting ERAS did you get an interview? I just submitted... and starting to get excited!

I submitted on the second got mine on saturday/sunday? That's when I got the notice, I didnt know they sent out invites on weekends, but oh well.

But let me reiterate, I did an away there and really really liked it, and they know I liked it, they already knew my application in and out (one of the clerkship directors edited my essay!).

Thanks again!

Well congrats again! Good luck!

Don't freak out. I got my interview AUTOMATICALLY. The place I start an away at in a week and a half screens the away applications because they give interviews to everyone who rotates there. I don't even think they had downloaded my application when I got the interview date.

My roommate doing PM&R was offered 2 interviews yesterday. I started hyperventilating as soon as I heard that.

Oh well, off and running anyway, someone else just could not wait. Good luck to all.
