Hey, are all your letters of rec in? If all the materials are submitted you should receive an email saying "under review" within the week. If you don't, I would recommend you contacting the program.
Hey! I have been accepted, and also check the 2019 - 2020 thread. A lot of people are talking in that thread as well.
I have been reaching out to the department like the main email that they us. My stat is a 3.4 cGPA and 3.1 sGPA and I also sent them my practice tests which was a 515. I haven't take the test bc of summer classes. But was planning on taking it in early August.
What do you mean foreign exchange students? Are you referring to international students! Also, are you saying they get accepted to the SMP or GT SOM?
I personally didn't do this program, but I do know two people who did, neither of who got into medical school the first year after doing the program (both told me they did well in the program and on their MCAT, but who really knows). In addition, I work with a former teacher who was on the board of admissions who strongly recommend people stay away from this program, as I guess the leadership recently changed or something. This isn't to stay it isn't a good program, as this is all information I have heard from others, but figured I'd add my 2 cents.
As a former GU SMP graduate and now GU M4, this information is terrible. Not sure where this guy applied but everyone I talked to knew what an SMP is. Even my residency interviewers knew what an SMP was, and one of them was a former SMP himself.
The last point is a good point! The people I know who didn't get in didn't give any reasons why they didn't get in anywhere, so the reasons for they didn't get in anywhere the first year after doing the program is probably a bigger reflection on them than anything. Also, this is all anecdotal, and of course, there are plenty of people who do the program who do very well 🙂
Nope, I went straight through. You apply in the normal cycle and they will send interviews out in March after you get done with most of your core medical school classes. You interview in April and admissions roll from late April to about June, but there have been rare instances of people being admitted up to the beginning of m1.
Thanks for the reply. Seems like most other SMP programs want you to wait until the following cycle... GU interviewing the same year as completing the SMP is a huge plus

I'm an alumni of the Georgetown SMP and have had a completely different experience. All of the schools I've applied to and interviewed at have been very familiar with what an SMP is, specifically recognizing the Georgetown SMP for it academic rigor and history of success compared to other SMP programs. There are definitely some schools that are more SMP-friendly than others, but overall most schools recognize what the program proves about you as an applicant. Georgetown does a really good job of sending materials out to these schools that explicitly states what the program does (ex. the LOR describes the rigor of the program and how the grading structure works, comparing you directly to the GUSOM M1 students.)
The list that they provided us with have all been familiar with the SMP. I got a few interview invitations from schools on that list and didn't have to explain what the SMP was to a single admissions officer or interviewer.
