Many people who contributed to this thread mainly posted thier personal experiences in thier schools. As you can see, there are many factors when it comes wether you should try to aim for 4.0 or not.

Do not have a set mind about wether it is hard or easy to get 4.0 in college because each person goes to a different difficuluty-level instituition and has unique learn styles that may be an advantage for a particular course.

When you enter college, consider to following points when a new semestar starts....

•Who should I take this course from? Remember, it depends on who teaches the course. Some teachers are easy. Some teachers are hard. Talk to upperclassmen about your concerns or go to ratemyprofessors.com

•Limit the number of sciences to 2. A general advice is that not to take more than 2 science courses in the same semester. Do not take Bio, Chem and Physics at the same time. Prereqs are important. But you don't have to take all of them at once to get overwelmed.

When your classes Start, figure out the following things in the first 2 weeks-1 month.

•how much time do I need to keep with this particular course. This will help you to do the time management every week.

•what's the best study strategies for me in this course? Flasf cards ? Study groups? Find the one that fits you. Just because it works fo somebody, the particular study method might no work fog you.

•be wary of final exam. They are ccmprehensive and cover a lot of stuff. Start to study early early early!!!

Just think of it this way, you're not gonna get more attractive or in shape as you get into residency or your 30s even. College is where the girls are at, and you don't find them behind a book... well... you get the idea.

You'll find this girl behind a book. 😉

Now that's just mean. You forgot Ninja and Berserker.

I got a 107% on a Physics exam when the average was 53%. The class average was curved to a 73%... So perhaps it was a 107 or 127%?

One could say that I am more than "just a guy".

[Sorry, just had to one-up ya. Gunner, out. 🙂]

1. What kind of physics class gives that many extra credit points on exams?

2. This was my worst exam score in college.

1. Well, turned out she didn't give me the benefit of the curve. So I was stuck with the 107. Bummer.

2. Me too, dawg. Me too... :meanie:

It's not difficult when you always get 100s. I got the 95 on a physics exam, but considering the class average was in the 50s and a 20 point curve was applied, I'm not sure if I should consider that a 95 or 115.

Dude you're kind of a jerk. First you use the fact that your lowest score was a 95 to say that college is easy, and then you turn around and use it to say how you did so much better than everyone else. If you're so awesome you shouldn't need to come on here to stroke your ego. Maybe you should give advice to the OP about how you did so well, instead of just saying it's because you're so comparatively awesome.

Good luck son, you're going to need it. Well that, and a love for spending all your time hitting the books (and the TAs).

Dude you're kind of a jerk.

That happens sometimes when someone implies I'm a liar.

I don't have any advice. Either you have the intelligence/determination to get A's, or you don't.

I know two people who got straight 4.0s in their first years. But then again, their program is known for spoon-feeding freshmen. They called themselves, "Dr. 4.0" :eyebrow:

Someone who does that deserves ridicule and a swift, running kick to their genitalia.

Also, someone who would do that is probably extraordinarily insecure, and unlikely to be a very happy person in life, so, joke's on them.

False dichotomy.

Getting good grades is also an acquired skill.

Eh why do people always assume that people that do these things have to always have some type of underlying problem that we don't have to deal with? It's very likely this person is very happy and perfectly happy with getting 4.0s.

👍 very sane advice. taking it for myself

Yeah, most of us learned this skill along with wiping our butts back in elementary school.

:laugh::laugh::laugh:
So lemme get this straight...

You wipe your OWN butt?
I have servants for menial tasks such as that.

Haha, you're too much buddy.
Anyone else on SDN "wipe their OWN butts"?
🤣

You know what though, it's actually true for one guy. He has issues with his dad; I think he's been pressured too much.

Yeah, most of us learned this skill along with wiping our butts back in elementary school.
Aside from the fact that I think you're full of crap, and you're lying to look cool on the Internet, you're wrong. Most people never learn how to get good grades, as evidenced by the fact that a 4.0 is a rare thing.

Getting a 4.0 is possible........if you want to be a total GEEK! :meanie:

A 4.0 is rare because most people are not all that smart. It's the nature of the bell curve. Those who are smart enough often are not all that dedicated.
And lol @ my awesomeness being so unbelievable for you.

Sometimes these plebeians can be so funny!

Anyway, to answer your question, I hire servants to wipe my butt with $100 bills. Anything less just seems... trashy and unrefined.

Paper currency? How nouveau riche.

So which one is it? Most people aren't that smart and can't get good grades, or most people learn how to get good grades?

Cut him some slack. He's probably speaking from personal experience on both accounts.

If you can't get A's in college, it's probably because you are either lazy or dumb or both.

Justaguy....you need to change your name to Justatool. You're a douchebag going around bragging about whether you got a 95 or a 115%....and why that was your WORST grade.

Nobody cares; either post some helpful advice or don't say anything because all you have said so far are troll comments

It all depends on the school you go to and the major that you have.

I went to a top business school (with an average class rank of top 2% out of high school) out of high school and managed to get a 3.80 with a really good life outside of school. What you might want to look into is how your school is ranked as it is related to grade inflation. Business schools are notorious for grade inflation - I was in the top 15% and had a 3.8, but the average gpa in the business school was a 3.4.

Right now, I am at a no name local school taking science classes for my prereqs. The classes here are very different when it comes to grading. Most of the class - between 40-50% fail in the science classes that I have taken. However, I am getting all A's - 4.0 for my second degree that I am getting here. In terms of effort, I am working way more than I did during undergrad the first time around.

I am by no means bright, although people tell me that I am 😕 I graduated from an easy high school ranked as 33% of my class and had an amazing 1180 SAT score. However, what I have learned is to study smart, work hard, and when possible, pick the easy teachers. You may not be able to pick your teachers at all schools - I cannot at the school that I am going to right now, but if you work hard, then you can do it.

In my opinion, it's best to aim for a 4.0

I went into college assuming I would get an A in every class. I had a 4.0 until my final quarter when I slacked off.

In my experience, the amount of work it's taken to pass my 1st year of medical school makes a college 4.0 look easy.

I graduated with a perfect 25 Dabloons and 15,000 Gold Stars... so, yeah its possible.

Dumb thread.

(all my posts are negative tonight... lots of dumb questions)

Then how do all the Caribbean students with 2.8 GPAs and 18 MCATs graduate?

And by pretty sure I mean positive.

Pikeville's averages are like 3.3 and 23, and I know for a fact they admit people with sub 3.0 and/or sub 20. Their attrition rate is around 5%.

You can be the smartest, have all the determination, and have something you can't control ruin your semester, it happens.. Thats why you cant say I know I'm going to graduate with a 4.0 because of so and so.

There's a bit more to it than that, it's pretty institution dependent. I had a ~3.5 in undergrad doing one of the most difficult majors at one of the most difficult undergrads in the country, and had a 4.0 through top 3 business schools/postbac programs, and med school so far <shrug> There are schools where people have never gotten a 4.0 in the history of the institution...

You could have a 4.0 but be a total wierdo! That's where the interview comes in 👍

I have more important things to do now than arguing with a bunch of premeds. Have fun in gen chem.
