For example?

Someone told me no one had gotten one at Harvard in 108 years which was shocking to me when I heard it. I heard that someone almost did at Cal but got an A- in a 1 credit class giving him a 3.996 or something. I would be surprised if anyone had gotten one at my alma mater or Cal Tech but I don't know for a fact. In general it's hard to do in a legitimate major at a legitimate school. Props to people that have.

Even on SDN, the amount for 40+ MCAT > people with 4.0s, and those are in the 99.9% of scores, meaning ~40 per year. I think getting a 4.0 over 4 years is a bigger accomplishment than getting a 40 MCAT, I barely studied for the MCAT and was in the 99.3+%

A 4.0 is rare because most people are not all that smart. It's the nature of the bell curve. Those who are smart enough often are not all that dedicated.
And lol @ my awesomeness being so unbelievable for you.

Someone ban this troll, so your such hot **** and these are your real stats?

"Need some advice. All my info is in, but I haven't paid to begin the verification process yet.

I have a 4.0 science and 3.43 overall GPA. I have a good upward trend. I repeated about 10 classes from many years ago and got As in all of them. MCAT 26M (V11, P7, B8). I have a liberal arts degree, good work experience, and about 800 hours of volunteer work."

pwned

I am a graduating senior and had a 4.0 GPA up until last fall semester. As someone mentioned earlier, it does take some luck and getting the right professors. In some classes I know I had an easier prof and some a harder one, but last fall, I got one of the hardest and combined with med school apps/interviews I couldn't pull off the A.

It's very difficult to maintain a 4.0 as well as participating in time consuming EC's. The best advice, I think, is to work your hardest but make sure you have a well-rounded app. Having solid EC's that provide you with quality experience and a 3.89 GPA is better than having poor EC's with a 4.0.

Exactly what happened to me. The combination of interviews, student organizations (I'm an outgoing president), and a tough biochem course broke me down. It sucked at first but in the grand scheme of things, there's far more important things to worry about. Plus, latin honors don't require 4.00s just close to it. 🙂

I would like to go to TUCOM-CA. What are my chances this late in the game? My MCAT is weak, but I never reviewed or took a single practice test, so I think I could improve this area significantly if I waited out another year. I understand it's late in the application cycle anyway. If not at TUCOM-CA, would I have a good shot at other schools? Or should I just wait until next year?
Still wonder why I found your story so unbelievable?

I'm a little worried about this myself. I've never really had to study for anything. I couldn't even force myself to study for the mcat. I'm worried I won't be able to force myself to study in med school and then not do well. But then on the other hand, I think of all the Caribbean students with crap GPA and MCATs who make it, so it can't be all that difficult, right?

Guess all that not studying for non-science courses and the MCAT didn't work out so well for you huh?
