Ok, when people say that they have a 3.6 and above are they taking difficult classes or easy classes. I think that a student who has taken difficult classes and has recieved a 3.0- 3.4 GPA should be looked upon favorable versus a student with 3.6 and above who took mostly easy classes. Does anyone agree or disagree?

that's why schools look at the institution you took your classes at.

if u took it at mostly CCs (not that its anythng wrong) and u have a 3.6, a person w/ a 3.5 at a UC will be looked at much more favorably.

its no coincidence that ppl have higher GPAs at CCs.

my GPA drops at UCSD but 4.0 at CCs for 8 classes that i took.

It depends on the school. I know that UF could care less where you took classes. They are straight GPA and PCAT. Where you take classes is a non-issue. I believe Albany is the same way. Call the specific school you are applying to - They can tell you what they feel is important.

Im not saying what double and lao wrote was incorrect - but what they think is completely irrelevant - Its what the Adcom at the school you are applying to thinks.

Also - most schools will calculate several GPAs for you - one will be your overall weighted GPA - this will favor students who have done well, especially those taking easy majors. They also calculate a Pre-Req GPA. This only includes certain classes, and shows more accurately the type of student you will be. Doing well in pre reqs is a good indication of how you will be able to handle Pharm school.
