When and how did you hear from Rutgers?

I heard today in the mail, they sent a big envelope and told me I am on the alternate list, and that it's a very competitive program to get into. I am probably going to BU, but it's nice to know I was not flat out rejected from my alma mater. How about you? I feel they should have a bigger class size like Rutgers North, to accommodate the large population of NJ students interested in state school for PT. It's a shame. I would be saving a fortune by attending RU. Good luck to you!

I still have not heard anything from them. I am assuming it's a wait list or rejection. I completely agree with you they should open up the class size. I also felt like the interviews were rushed since they need to get through so many applicants in such a little amount of time, which is a shame. They only asked 3 questions and they weren't particularly showing of the applicant I do not think.

I was accepted to Shenandoah U. and plan on attending. I am really happy. I loved the program and the facility. The interview process was enjoyable and individualized and I felt like they were really trying to get to know the applicants.

Not getting into Rutgers is kind of a blessing in disguise I guess since I will not feel guilty about going to an out of state program. Good luck to you too!

I hope you hear back soon, I actually called a week ago and the woman couldn't give me any info. At the interview, the professor even said how the state was urging them to make their class size bigger, but they refuse because they feel the smaller intimate feel is a pro of their program. No, a pro is allowing more in state students a chance to attend a cheaper alternative. Yea I agree, I did not like how they had 5 students with 2 interviewers..

That's awesome! I hope you do well there and enjoy it. Are you going to the leesburg campus or the other one?? I got rejected from Shenandoah 🙁 ...... but things have worked out for me, to my surprise.

I agree, it is a blessing in disguise, my parents were gunning for me to attend rutgers since it is closer to home, but now I have the chance to finally move out of state and be independent. Thank you!!

Two quick questions:

Has anyone heard from University of Washington?

And has anyone heard from University of St.Augustine? I applied to the Miami campus and it was SUCH a hassle to apply. Apparently they had some IT problems, so certain files weren't being updated to the applications. I called so many times and no one ever picked up (the admissions phone was having problems too), so it was difficult trying to contact someone about it. They finally contacted me a month after the deadline saying that they were able to update my application. Did anyone have any issues with them?

I got an email from them on February 12th.

What do you guys think? Chances? I know my overall GPA is below average, but there is a VERY noticeable grade trend. I'm also thinking that my GRE might help balance that a bit. Let me know!

Final update. My GPA isn't outstanding (and was actually well below the average for most of the schools I applied to) so hopefully it gives everyone some hope if they think they are just "average."

Also: here are my new GPAs after my academic update (I held a 4.0 this semester and the two semesters before applying while I took my prereqs). Keep in mind I had already received two acceptances and all the interviews before I submitted this - so they only saw current stats and classes I was taking.

I got into UPS as well! Why do you want to go to UofW? Are you from Washington?
Are you going to the reception UPS is hosting next week? If so, I'll see you there. The main reasons I want to go to UW are price, location, and rank. I actually moved to WA last year from CA for several reasons (family up here, cheaper housing, SO's job), but a major reason was because there are good quality PT programs in WA at a better price than in CA. I'll have in-state residency by the time school starts, but I'm wondering if my newcomer status had an affect on UW's decision about my application.

First post on this thread. I encourage all low gpa applicants to work hard and smart. I am living proof that applicants with low gpas can get accepted to PT schools. This is my first year applying to DPT schools. I wanted to apply last year, but I knew it would be a waste of time because along with my poor gpa, I had a lack of experience. I spent the last year and some really trying to fix my disgusting gpa, studying the GRE (took it only once), and really focusing on expanding my experience. During my interviews, it was easy to speak about my experiences with PT during my volunteer and work experience because I had so many experiences to choose from.

Gotcha! If I had the money I would haha. I live in southern California and although I would love to go check out the campus and meet everyone, I got to save some money. I'm not too familiar with Washington or the Tacoma area so i'm going to have to do some research and start looking for a place to live as August nears. I like what I've read about UPS's program though and the area/school look beautiful from the pictures I've seen haha.

kdab28, do you plan on accepting or declining UW? Florida is always a nice place to be. I was placed on alternate status for UW, so I am eager to see who is accepting and declining. The more that decline, the better my odds. If I don't get in this year, I'll still reapply to UW, but I plan on applying to most schools in Florida. After being in cold, wet, and rainy Washington for so long, the warm beach sounds pretty nice.

I'm from SoCal originally too! I'll let you know what I think of the campus/area when I'm there next week. I've been to Tacoma a couple times and it seems a little dumpy in my opinion, but supposedly it depends on the area you're in, and I haven't been to the part of town near the campus. I live in Bellevue right now (next to Seattle), and the housing in Tacoma looks more reasonably priced based on what I've seen on Craigslist this week

kdab28, do you plan on accepting or declining UW? Florida is always a nice place to be. I was placed on alternate status for UW, so I am eager to see who is accepting and declining. The more that decline, the better my odds. If I don't get in this year, I'll still reapply to UW, but I plan on applying to most schools in Florida. After being in cold, wet, and rainy Washington for so long, the warm beach sounds pretty nice.

If I didn't live and want to stay in South Florida, I'd be going to UW in a heartbeat. But I committed to UM as I've had incredible research experiences there and fell in love with the program. So, as hard as it was to do, I declined my spot at UW --- so that's another open spot!

I haven't done this yet.. Maybe because I didn't want to hear what other people thought of my chances.. I read enough though to have a good idea on my own. But now that I am in a program I am comfortable sharing this info..

I am going back to school after almost 8 years off!

I live in Tacoma and it ain't dumpy. But you are right, rent is way cheaper than Seattle or Bellevue. You're really lucky to have gotten in to UPS...They are really demanding. I'm on the alternate list again. So if you want to go live somewhere less dumpy and give your spot to me that would be Aok!. 😉 But seriously, UPS beats UW. I've worked with 3 UPS graduates and live 2 minutes from the campus. They are about helping people and UW is about research.

Oh, and look for apartments/houses in the Stadium district or in the North End right around the college.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I really hadn't seen much of Tacoma and was probably just in a meh part of town the couple times I was there. The main factors pushing me away from choosing UPS are the $20k price difference between UPS and UW, and that my SO and I own a condo in Bellevue so I'd have to move away from home for 3 years. I'm excited to go down next week for the accepted-students day and get a feel for the place. Can you tell me some specifics about the differences you'be heard between the two schools? I honestly don't know a ton about either program besides what the put on their websites, which of course don't talk about the bad stuff.

I'm sorry you were waitlisted again 🙁 that sucks a lot. I hope you get in!

Where will you go, if you don't mind me asking?

Fresno state is the financially responsible choice. St augustine has its perks such as being in san diego county and being accelerated. I would be a fool to turn down Fresno.
